The New Atkins Golf Club
The upgrade in maintenance practices and the renovated greens and bunkers is significant. The course is basically the same layout as the original Stone Creek but with added back tees, strategic bunkering and some narrowing of landing areas for College Golfers while maintaining playability for average players. The firmer greens and surrounds are a great. The bunkers are in the best condition south of I80.
Awesome course
I love the layout and condition of this course. Very fair yet challenging. Ball rolls nicely on the greens and are faster than most, which is fine with me. Staff is friendly, facilities are outstanding. Absolutely zero complaints. Will definitely return. I live in Bloomington-Normal where we have several very nice muni courses and I prefer this course. Plus, there's a great brewery just down the road, which I suggest visiting after a round of golf.
Fee for rider
It’s absolutely ridiculous to charge a player an extra $25 for a rider when theres no point because I will only ride with myself not anyone I don’t know. Its a fee that will deter me and a whole lot of people
A perfect round
Wow I was really impressed with this course! It was really the ideal day, the weather was perfect, the price was well worth this level of golf course and I had really good company. I will say we used all aspects of the golf club and were pleased with every area and person we interacted with that day. We dropped our bags with a very pleasant attendant who loaded all our bags and things up while one of us went to pay and I went to park the car. We putted on the practice green which gave us a great feel for how the course greens would play. Then getting in the cart we found to be very well outfitted with Bluetooth, usb chargers and gps for the holes we headed to the first hole. We were greeted on hole 1 by a very kind and informative starter. We were not pushed or waiting on anyone throughout our round on a Friday afternoon. The bunkers were pristine and the fairways and greens were immaculate. This is in my top five courses played and have played countless rounds in my hometown Las Vegas and traveling to the Caribbean among other countries. Keep up the great work I will come back anytime I am in the area.
Championship Course
Fun to play. Set up nicely. Best sand traps anywhere. Greens fast and consistent.
Good Value
Play this course before they increase the rate. In great shape, good layout. Greens were a step faster than anything I played so far this year. My only note of concern is that there is often a long walk from cart to green, might impact someone with mobility issues. Will try to play again
Great Staff and Amenities
Great attentive staff and course was in great shape for being 100+ degrees every day for the past week. Difficult greens with pace but bunkers were immaculate.
Riders
Course is beautiful and staff was super nice. What I didn’t like is there is a 25 dollar fee for riders. On top of the 49-89 dollars to play with a cart. Low income golfers will have a hard time paying for this course.
Time will tell
This course was in great shape even with some projects still going on throughout the course. Golf carts would shut down if you get too close to the green, some holes it wouldn't allow you to get within 75 yards of the green. Being a public course I can see that this is a good problem to have but may need slightly adjusted. Tees and greens are practically perfect, with hot summer days ahead of us the few hot spots around the greens will be a true test to the grounds crew. Greens were in excellent shape and have a lot of challenging undulations, could have been a smidge faster for my liking but it was a hot day and we played in the afternoon.
