I've played Villages about 4 times now, and one thing I can always count on here is smooth rolling greens for almost every hole. One thing I can't count on is the pace of play. Usually a hit or miss here; 3 weeks ago our three some didn't run into a group until last few holes on the back 9 which is perfectly fine if everyone is playing ready golf etc. Yesterday, slow slow slow slow. Seemed like a lot of groups stacked at different tee boxes at once, no ranger in sight to help speed up play. This needs to be addressed, not just here, but any course this time of year while "in season". It does affect the groups personal play and performance as well. Overall, great course and not too challenging, sharpen your wedge game cause most approach shots that is all that's needed. Will be back soon.
Perfect weather brought out EVERYONE
My father and I normally play a bit further North but decided to give Village GC a try. The weather was perfect and it brought out everyone, which meant for a S-L-O-W round (would've been over 5 hrs if we didn't skip a hole and the group ahead of us.)
The front 9 was in mediocre shape. Very firm and fast greens, and tight fairways. The back 9 was in much better condition. There was no ranger riding around which could've helped with the slow pace of play. Even before we started off, people making the turn at 9 were complaining about a 5some slowing things up on their front 9... either way, the weather was perfect and any day out golfing beats a day in the office ;)
Good Layout BUT...
I played this course a few weeks ago, and returned thinking that the moist weather and warmth would improve course conditions. Though the layout is good, the fairways were very sparse, and the greens were terrible. From the putting green, I was not expecting much on the course, and I was right. The greens on the front nine were very sparse, many looking like they had some dry rot, with little grass. The back nine looked like there were multiple types of grass, (Poa annua?) mixed in, and were bumpy and slow. And for goodness sakes, can someone learn how to fix a ball mark? C'mon people!! For nearly $100 after tax, I thought the course is overpriced. In all fairness, the layout is fine, and some course knowledge might help, since there are some penalty areas that are not visible from the tee, but fairways are wide enough that you deserve a penalty if you miss them. Bag Staff was very friendly, and starter was outgoing and helpful. Nice range and practice area as well.
Course layout is nice so are the faiways and the majority of the greens. Amenities are also very nice for those who like to practice.
Fivesome
Much to our chagrin we were placed behind a fivesome
Until we played thru on number t0 pace of play was unacceptable
Never had this experience before
Good value course
In surprisingly good shape given recent weather. Particularly the back nine which is quite attractive. Greens are fast and true.
We appreciate you taking the time to write a kind review. We also thank you for coming out and playing the course on a regular basis! We appreciate you recognizing the fantastic job that Justin, Chris and the entire Maintenance crew do on the entire course. As for pace of play it can certainly be hit and miss. We strive to provide a 4 hour pace and many times that does not happen. Your suggestion of rangers is a very good one and will be taken up with the higher powers. Thanks for your input and support, it is greatly appreciated!
