Reviews
Good course
First time to play the Lion since it reopened. Course in good shape. Fairways good. A few of the greens had some bare spots, but they were out there maintaining them. They have replaced some of the rough in the layup area of #18 with fairway. Makes the hole a little more playable. Always enjoy playing the Lion, glad it is back on GN.
You gotta do it!
I have played here 10- 15 times in last few years. Always a great trip. If you like to be out in the woods and enjoy not seeing rows of houses on each side of you then this is the place. Every hole has great scenery very nice in the fall. Since it reopened the new managers have been working hard to get it back to pristine condition.
Unless you are an Olympic athlete you absolutely do not want to attempt walking this one. even the carts struggle sometimes.
Overall its one of the best around west Ga area.If you are familer with courses in the area I would say its a cross between the Frog and Oak Mt..
Never had a bad experience here. Oh and on the 18th hole NO you aren't likely to make it on in 2 just FYI.
OPEN AGAIN!
I happy to say that the course has reopened. GolfNow needs to contact them again because I highly enjoy the course and has grown to become one of my favorite courses down in the Carrollton area. The greens look very good considering the long absence. I cannot wait to see course in Spring
Hate to see her go...
Had to play The Lion at least one more time should it not be saved from shutting down 12/31/12. If they had only advertised this course and appreciated its members more I believe it would have thrived.. Hardly any golfer has heard of this course outside of the immediate West Ga area. What a shame! Members did not advertise most likely from frustration of no real member benefits. (FYI. I am not a former member as it was more cost effective to not join) I will miss the memorable 16th (par 3) and challenging 18th (par 5)
Super course! Great challenge!
nice, quiet course
the layout is challengeing yet very serene as we could not even see another golfer on the course. an ample mixture of tees to choose from with wide landing areas. if you want lunch at the turn, get there early as the snack bar closes around 3:30.
always enjoy playing this course
Great people and great course. Always enjoy playing this course.
The Lion is a a good course to play in the Atlanta area. Due to it's ease of access and price it's recommended.
The Lion's condition can be hit or miss. I've played it times when it's been in great shape and then come back two weeks later and it had taken a turn for the worse. Heat seems to give it difficulty. The layout is great. It's fair and challenging with a good bit of elevation changes. Another plus is the pace of play. I play this course many times due to the fact I can get a round in quickly. Even with the drive it takes less time to play than other Atlanta area courses. Due to it being right off 20 the drive is quick with all interstate. The prices are much better than other Atlanta course. The course isn't great but when you factor in the other factors it's a good bet.
This course is beautiful but difficult to play
This course is like playing in the mountains, extreme uphill and downhill fairways, hole # 1 may be only flat hole on course.I enjoyed round as there are many beautiful holes but very challenging test.I do not believe it is walkable as it has many long distances between hole to next tee box and is very hilly from beginning to end.
excellent course with plenty of very challenging holes!
has become probably my favorite course to play! really enjoy the challenge from teebox to green on all 18 holes. excellent driving, chipping and putting ranges. course employees have always been helpful and courteous. wish it was closer to rome and i would play there every week! also like fact that carts have coolers attached to carry water and drinks with you
has some challening wholes
great course to play with with trees all around, good for the price, you can't go wrong
Great course. Fair test. Good condition for fall 2012.
I love this course. It is a good challenge with mostly fair holes. The greens had some issues over the summer but have since healed and are in great shape for fall 2012.
Excellent golf course
This course is a must play for the intermediate and advanced players. The fairways were excellent and although there is evidence that the greens have been reseeded, they were surprisingly smooth and fast.
Like the moderate hilliness of the course and nice layout
The course is in pretty good condition. Aeration happened a little late and the greens haven't quite recovered yet but they were pretty smooth and quick on Sunday. The bunkers need some attention, one on #9 is mud instead of sand and quite a few need some sand in them.
Pace of play was great on the front. My twosome was playing quickly with no one in sight. However, when we made the turn a twosome, was sent off directly in front of us and play dropped to a snails pace.
I've played here three times and really enjoy the course, challenging and with this fall weather it has been a real pleasure to be out there.
Great variety of challenges
Having an 8 handicap once, I really enjoy a challenging course, the Lion has just about everything; water, elevation changes, blind shots and undulating greens!
Always a great layout and fun to play.....
I have always enjoyed The Lion...Great to see it back open.
I will always travel a long distance to play this course.
beautiful course in great condition.
beautyful hilly course in great condition. course runs through the woods with only two houses on it and no roads in sight.very challenging and never crowded.
Needs attention.
Some of the greens are in pretty bad shape and the bunkers are in need of some sand.
The course is great if you are looking for a challenge
They should let you know when the greens have been airated
No warning
Had to play the front nine twice, as they were aerating. Greens were just being sanded as well, like putting in a sand trap. No notice given at all on GN as to course condition. The course is enjoyable on a normal day, but not during this round. GN needs to be more up to date with the course condition.
great value very scenic great pace of play
very scenic, loved all the elevations, course plays long
greens were running very fast
