Bankrupt
The course is held by the bank and it shows. Could be one of the finest in Atlanta but overgrown and in relatively poor condition. Good news is no one is playing it so great for a practice round. Our cart ran out of juice on the 8th and no one would answer the phone in the clubhouse. Had a long walk and staff didn't seem to care. Beautiful location and fun course. Hope someone with some cash buys it.
Awesome course, GREAT value!!!
If you haven't played here in a while i would recommend trying it again. I used to play here all the time. The course conditions weren't all that great before. You could really tell the new management company is highly committed to restoring the course to get the attention it deserves. The greens are in great shape! And the sand traps have also been restored. The course has a variety of elevation changes and some really awesome water holes. If you haven't tried it, DO IT!!! Its worth the drive and the money.
good test
I like the course. The course makes you think how you want to play. There is trouble in spots.Certain greens need work but with some maintenance could be very good.
Yuk!
Worse course I've played this year! I could understand if it was just the greens but it wasn't , the entire course looked like no one was tending to it. The whole time we played everyone kept saying "can't believe what they charges us knowing what it looks like." We all agreed this wld be the last time they got our business.
Dog track with challenging layout
Won't be playing this course again. Worst condition of any course I've played in five years in the Atlanta area. Greens, fairways, tees were all in poor condition, little to no sand in the bunkers and fire ant mounds were everywhere we stepped. Paid $26 for the round and wouldn't even play it again if it were free. I'd rather pay $50 - $100 for a course that is well manicured ... or just manicured.
It is a shame too ... the course had a challenging layout and the staff was polite.
Very Poorly Maintained
The overall condition is very poor from the pro shop to, to the carts, to the fairways to the greens. The only positive is that we played quickly because ther were few players.
Great Layout
Played this course with some friends this week. I was very pleased. The greens were good and fast, and the layout is awesome. Very scenic as well. I will definitely come back here again. Rate was great!!
This course has some challenging par 4s
The course was somewhat challenging but fair for the weekend golfer. Some par 4s played long from the gold tees.
Overall very good but I wish they accepted Amex
I have played this course before and every experience has been very good. The staff is friendly and I find the course difficulty suits my game. MY only gripe is that they do not accept Amex. When I make the reservation on GolfNow.com I can use my Amex but when I show up I have to pay otherwise. I am fortunate that my company allows me to expense a portion of my golf but only if I use my corporate Amex. Hence, I can't take advantage of that offer for this course. I would gladly pay a premium if necessary.
Som green chipped
We have played three some on Sunday afternoon. Perfect weather for round. Club house was pretty minimum but staff at shop was friedly guy. Range ball was not excllent. Overall shapes and grass grown well but some green was draught so need to repair patchy. No snack & beverage cart was seen during round. No fancy fringe, just enjoy!
A decent course unless you're a golf snob
Golf snobs looking for picture perfect greens and bright green fairways can ship this course, unless they want to test their blood pressure on the back 9. For the folks with double digit handicaps this course has a lot to offer. On the upside, the course layout is very good. Plenty of challenges, especially on the back 9 where water, bunkers, dog-legs, and other hazards really test your game. What I liked most was the variety of hole layouts. No two were the same, in fact no 2 were even close. And the last few holes crossed and wrapped a lake which really had me in Tin Cup mode. SOme of the fairways provided a few "cart-path-like" bounces that can really help you if you can hit it straight. The course is more like a public venue than a private club. Some of the greens were in tough shape and a little slow. Their regular rates reflect the "you get what you pay for" motto. But the Deal Caddy deal made it well worth the price. Don't get me wrong, I love the lush green clubs around the ATL, and I play them when I can. But this course deserves consideration if you are in need of practice without pretentiousness. It was a lot of fun and I'd play here again provided I can get another Deal Caddy deal.
Disappointing Round at Durham Lakes
It is very unfortunate that this once upon a time very challenging and fun course is no longer either challenging nor fun to play. It is obvious that the place has suffered years of neglect. There is no grass in the fairways, all but one of the greens (18) is dying or has been lost. When I was able to find a scant amount of grass in the fairway, the hard pan beneath the grass in the fairways made it impossible to execute a fairway wood shot. It's improbable that I'll play there again this year. I was truly dissappointment to see the once beautiful place allowed to deteriorate so dramatically.
Still a mess! Save your $ and time!
I played this course 4 years ago, and I think it has gotten worse. There was more sand on the greens than grass. The fairways were basically hard dirt with dead grass on top. Many of the sprinkler heads were broken, so you could tell the only water on the course was rain. Tee boxes were torn up, traps were missing rakes and looked like weren't fixed in weeks. Only 2 greens had a decent amount of grass on them, and they were so long that putting was horrible. Maintaining this course is shotty at best. They call it a country club, more like a golf course that time forgot. It could be a good course, but what $ is coming in is not going towards the course at all. Also there were only 2 water jugs on course, both with no water on a warm day. Save your time and $ and go play another course.
Durham
The course was about average, not as well groomed as a lot of others that I have played of the same price range.
slow greens
The greens were slow which meant that you had to hit every putt to the hole. Just meant altering speed to the hole that what you would typically play.
Don't waste your money, unless you just want to practice.
Looks like this course will be closing soon. Greens are in bad shape, fairways need work. Someone needs to reseed fairway and tee boxes! Sad to see this course in such a bad shape. Don't waste you money.
Needs work
GREAT layout but course conditions poor. Greens have significant "bad" spots... very little grass on fairways and many bare spots. Definitely can see the neglect. Too bad... it's a great, challenging layout.
I Just Like This Course
I have played this course several times, and always enjoy my round. The course is always in great condition, and is very playable. Only if you hit an errant shot, will you be penalized.
Greens in horrible condition.. No warning
Pro shop said greens had recovered nicely from aeration. Couldn't be further from truth. More sand than grass on greens.
Great course but very difficult.
This course is in great condition but it's very difficult. Also, this is one of the largest courses I've ever played at. I will definitely be back to play at this course again!
