Good but needs TLC
The course in general was in good shape given the grasses are still dormant in March. The greens are not in very good shape with dead patches in them. They will definitely need some improvement fairly quickly or the course rating will surely begin to suffer. Other than the greens,(not all of them) the course was as I would expect this time of year.
Got Greens?
Played this course in early March of 2014. Unfortunately, the greens were awful. Very slow, and in terrible condition. We were told by a member in our foursome that he played last summer, and that the greens were in the same shape at that time.
Overall, this course is beautiful. It's settled in a nice neighborhood. It has a great clubhouse and a very friendly staff. The overall layout of the course is also very nice. It's just those greens... I'll definitely play again, only more towards the summer. If the greens play the same, I doubt I'll return.
Worst Golf Experience Ever
I played this course a year ago and had a fun time. Yesterday was a joke. Greens are the worst I've ever seen. Slow, long grass, and potholes everywhere. The man working in the proshop was also bringing the carts around. The cart wasn't charged. My cart died on hole 15. The range was open but none of the balls had been scooped up to hit. No cart girl. Massive sinkholes in the fairway. This course needs several million sunk into it just to get a fair rating. Don't care how cheap it is, not worth it.
Disappointed
What a disappointment. I get that it's offseason but the greens were in pretty bad shape. No starter so people just went off as they chose. I was a 2-some stuck behind a slow 4-some for most of the day. I've played here before and enjoy the layout but even at the price I paid, it probably isn't worth it. I'd look elsewhere at least until the greens recover.
Great course
I been playing for a few years now and I found the course challenging especially the 17th hole which was over water. I would recommend it to friends and would play it again. This was my first time using Golf Now and I had used it several times since then in Orlando, Florida. Great Prices
Durham Lakes
A great course to play for the price, nice challenges that can test all golfers of all levels.
Good local course
For a beginner like myself, this can be a challenging course. However, that does not mean you should not play here. My friend and I had a wonderful time. The fairways were pretty well maintained. The sand traps were okay -- some were hard surfaced and needed more sand and some were just fine. The greens were real fast. Some area's of the greens had a few bad spots but for the most part they were okay. We played on the weekend and the price we payed by using GolfNow for booking 18 holes in advance was very reasonable. I did loose a lot of balls but I also found a lot of balls so it kind of evened out ("ballwise"). If you keep it in the fairway, this is very good course. Seeing that it's only 5 miles from my house, I'll definitely be back.
dog track
you can tell that the economic downturn has had a major impact on certain golf courses, and this is one of them. The fairways are rock hard, the greens have dead spots and to top it off the cart I was driving broke.
Great for the money
Challenging course. Lot of blind shots though. Greens were a little hairy, but that's kind of expected in late October. But overall great course for the price. I will play frequently
Championship Layout
Durham Lakes is one of the best layouts in Georgia. Depending on which tees you play from it can be extremely difficult to very enjoyable. It is of championship caliber! However, it appears that the course is not being properly maintained i.e. the greens have many bare spots and the growth around the course was very dense.
Overall it was very enjoyable and well worth the cost.
Great course.
Though the course is an hour away, I really enjoy its layout. It has some punishing holes if you hit bad shots, but otherwise very enjoyable.
Pay attention
I'm not good but I know I'm not trash and this course will get your attention Quickly
Really fun
With the exception of the damaged greens by Mother Nature, I really enjoyed this course.
Tee boxes are nice.
Fairways provided lots of roll even after a couple inches of rain on the previous day.
Course layout was fantastic.
Back 9 was my favorite, lots of water and risk/reward holes.
Greens should be back to normal by spring according to the staff.
Overall I give it 8/10
Improving
Progress is being made. Still a lot of work to be done. If they can bring this track to it's former glory it would definitely be one of the best courses on Atlanta's south side .
Crying to maintain
The bunkers are overgrown with weeds.
forget air of the greens they don't exist poor.
course play is fast because nobody on the course except I guess regulars.
Had to wait on staff to sign in don't have a clue were he was.
Better courses for the money.
tough track...but
Where do I begin? The conditions of the course are mediocre at best. The greens are all gone and covered with sand, 90 % of the fairways are cut so short that there are bare spots of red clay dirt showing, and there is hardly any grass to hit off of. The traps have wash spots in them, there is a lot of overgrowth in the lakes/ponds and hazard areas making it difficult to see where to hit at times, and there is a bad infestation of crab grass in the rough. The greens appear to be bent grass. Just wondering why they don't try to transition to the Champion's Bermuda? Given the amount of rain we have had this year, I am highly surprised to see the fairways in the condition they are in. The tees are okay, but slightly shaggy. On the upside, my father and I were one of the few groups on the course. We teed off at 11:30 and were finished by 3:00. This plus the difficulty of the course were the most enjoyable parts of the day. It's a shame to see this course in the shape it is in. This is a very difficult layout with several par 4's pushing 430 yards or longer from the tips. Given better conditions, this would be one of my favorite places to play. Unfortunately, it's hard to digest paying anything less than $20 a round with it in it's current state. Sorry guys, nothing personal, but I can't see investing the time nor money to play here, unless things drastically improve.
So-so
The online tee-time was right behind private tournament play, and we caught the tournament at hole 5 the pace was excruciatingly slow!!! On #10 a rain-storm hit thankfully, and we quit at 2-1/2 hrs. play for 9 holes. At the clubhouse we caught some grief requesting a rain-check like "you can go back out it's gonna' stop soon", no thanks no 6 hr. rounds please !! :-0
