JAW
We Played John A White today, it reopened after renovation last Friday. Good job redoing the course guys. Greens are a little low, due to not being cut low & rolled. But the course over all, is beautiful from what it was the last few years. We need the rain to stop & dry up the fairways.
Greatly Improved
The course recently reopened after extensive work to the greens. The new greens are still playing slow but are in great shape. The fairways, tee boxes, and bunkers are also in great shape after a summer of TLC. The course is somewhat short but is still an enjoyable challenge for more experienced golfers with bunkers around most greens, some tight tee boxes, and elevation changes.
The staff is always friendly and helpful and the price is hard to beat. The driving range at this course is well maintained and buckets of balls are cheap.
Greens were a problem
The pace of play was not bad for a Saturday morning, the T-bioxes were ok and the fairways were good (when I was able to find them, but that’s my fault) the only real issue and it’s a major one was the condition of the greens. They were in a word-Horrible. They made putting almost impossible. This can be such a beautiful course, it’s challenging and has nice narrow fairways. But good GOD make the putting surface and actual putting surface!
My Round At John A White
This is overall a very nice 9 hole course. The fairway are in excellent condition, the course is very pretty. There’s only one major flaw. The greens are in horrific condition! I repeat the greens are in horrible condition!!
Greens Are a Disaster
The quality of the greens makes this course - quite frankly - unplayable. They’ve gotten worse over time and it’s a shame because the course is perfectly fine in all other respects.
Greens need work, in bad part of town
Overall the course was fine other than the greens, in very rough condition. The course is in a lower end part of town so the area is pretty sketchy. The staff was great and it’s a great course for beginners as the holes are wide open, just don’t expect to work on putting. I would go here again just since it’s affordable but maybe not on a Saturday or Sunday as they don’t have many golf carts.
0/5 stars
Tee time for my group was at 8:10, nobody showed up at the clubhouse until 8:20. Not even a half-hearted apology from the gentleman upon arrival, which was a bit strange but honestly fine at the time - we were just happy to be able to play some golf.
As others have said, these are the worst greens I have ever seen. Literally impossible to putt. Even still, we were just happy to be able to play a round of golf and work on our ball striking.
The kicker came when we completed our first nine holes and the same gentleman who showed up late refused to allow us to play our last nine holes, even after we showed our receipt from GolfNow which clearly stated we paid to play 18.
Thankfully GolfNow did their part to help rectify the situation with credits toward a future round. However, the gentleman at the front desk was rude and unhelpful to paying customers who had proof they paid for 18 holes. No way to conduct business.
Bottom line, don't waste your time and hard-earned money at this place.
Disappointing
Being early in the season on March 6th I didn't expect a lot of grass in the fairways. There was very little on the greens as well I can only be call one grain that had 90% grass. It was like playing on the surface of potholes. While clearing more area along the fairways will improve conditions in the future the fencing and posts left in the fairway on 3 holes was unacceptable. Most obvious evidence that participants left behind was failure to rake the traps .poor ethics .
Don't waste your time/money
You are probably considering John A White because you waited until the day before or the day of to make a tee time and nothing else is available. If you are considering playing here, do yourself a favor and stay home. We teed off over an hour late because they didn't have enough carts. The greens look more like sand traps. No rangers so there were groups with zero golf etiquette on pace for 6 hour rounds. Had to play thru people who have no business being on a golf course. Worst golf experience I've ever had, never again.
Terrible
Arrived at 12:50 For our 1pm tee time. The guy running the shop said they had no more carts for anyone and we all had to wait (there were several other groups that had been waiting for an earlier tee time). They didn’t keep any logs of who was up for the next cart so there were arguments about who was next because of the lack of professionalism and leadership. Finally got on the course around 2 and safe to say it was the worst kept course I’ve ever played on. Greens were like putting on mars, sand traps were like landfills, and there were random raw materials throughout the course. Would not recommend.
Awesome
First time playing here staff was friendly and funny, course and greens were maintained would play again forsure
Don’t go
This course is terrible and should not be $30+ to play there. It’s so bad. The greens are like a gravel parking lot. Can’t even attempt a putt even from a few feet.
The course that was left to die
Did I have fun? Yes because I’ve never seen a course that aged. Do you know it’s a great course when there are kids practicing in the middle of it.
The greens are brown and very dead.
We play 18 holes with cart for $15. Enough said
I have to speak on the greens. They were horrible at best.
I really love to support John A White and The 1st Tee but I can’t get over how bad the greens were. Boxes were ok - fairways were decent
