Edmond's Titanic
I paid for myself and 2 friends to play on the 4th of April 2016. I purchased tickets through the Golf Now app. The course had recently been aerated. I played Hefner's south course the day after it was aerated the week before. This was explained when we arrived.
What was not explained was that the person who aerated the greens on the front nine left the sand several inches deep in places. Unlike the greens at Hefner, Fairfax were entirely unplayable. Many of the tee boxes were more hard packed sand than grass, the fairways were either mostly bone dry or sopping wet mud holes. It's like the the course maintenance crew were too lazy to actually water the course so they left the hoses out to drain in certain areas and never moved them. The course is in dreadful shape.
When we finished our game I went to the pro shop to talk to the pro on staff about the problems we had.
I asked if he'd played the course recently and he said no. I showed him some pictures of the greens to demonstrate what I was talking about. He pulled out the courses normal rate card and told me that the condition of the course is why they were charging so little per person to play. I felt ashamed at the lack of pride he exhibited for his employer. Mind you I got the Golf Now rate so if I'd walked in off the street I'd have been charged the full rate, and that I could have played a different course for more money and had a better time. He then gave me Mike Stewart's card (Fairfax's head golf pro) and said when I come in next Mike will give me a free cart rental to make up for it. This was insulting. I didn't ask for money, I came to speak with him that he needs to look into getting the course maintained. I visited Fairfax at a friend's recommendation that it was a great course. I found that it's no better than the well maligned Brookside golf course in south Moore, OK.
I don't expect to return regardless of free cart fees; both due to the course conditions, and the customer service. This was a terrible experience and I hope to have to never repeat it.
Gotta get back
I have to play this course again, staff was outstanding and the course layout is definitely to my liking. My friend JP took me with him and I will be paying for his next round as I truly enjoyed our round here. We even discussed getting in as many tourneys as we could out there this summer. Come play Fairfax you will not be disappointed.
What a gem
I am a geologist that just moved to the area and live not too far from the course. So I decided to stop in, and check it out (what a gem). Will definitely play over 30 or 40 rounds there this year as well as looking at getting a company tourney there. Took a couple friends of mine out we knew they had aerated their greens but Mike was beyond friendly and went out of his way to make sure all of us had a great time. The course layout is outstanding, good shot making will allow you to score well on this course. Not just a wide open course cut in a field, this course winds through a beautiful neighborhood with a challenging but fair layout. See ya again gents, sincerely JP and friends.
Great Course
I always enjoy playing Fairfax in Edmond. The course is fun and challenging. Fairfax has also been very generous with their time and use of their course to the Edmond Public Schools golf programs. Be sure to visit and support this course!
Poor Customer Service
My 12 year old sister played in a golf tournament here. They played the back 9 holes. If anyone knows how brutal it is to watch 12 & 13 year olds play golf knows how hard it is to watch and how time consuming it is. That being said, everyone has to start somewhere, right? First of all, we were charged $30 for a cart - that we paid without complaints. But Mike took it upon himself to explain rudely why he charged us $30 for a cart. As the girls were finishing their last hole - yes it took 4 hours to play 9, but again they are 12 years old - most was their first tournament ever. He drove by and told they girls to pick up and take a double par when they were only laying 4. Mike's comment was that he had customers to get on the course, however there were very few cars in the parking lot and no one behind the girls waiting for them at that point. This is a course I grew up playing and have very fond memories from there and have looked in to memberships there but after that experience I will not come back.
Fairways/Greens rock hard
Having played this course numerous times, I don't think I've ever played it where the fairways and greens were rock hard. The staff did say they were aerating the greens this week so that will soften them up. I was very surprised at the fairways however, didn't seem to be maintained very well, but overall course wasn't in bad shape. Won't be back until late April when grass is greener and ground is softer!
Thanks for playing on Good Friday. The winds that week were very heavy and did dry us up. We had 40 and 50 MPH winds on Monday and Tuesdays, followed by constant 20-30 mph winds the remainder of the week. We were also in the process of changing all the irrigation controllers to a computerized central control system. I'll tell Danny to punch a few buttons and increase the water output. Please come see us again!
Fast Round!
Our foursome was fortunate enough to be the first group of the day to tee off. There was a 10-minute frost delay, but that is no fault of the golf course, that one is on Mother Nature.
The groundskeepers mowed the greens just before we teed off. Those were the fastest greens I have ever experienced playing at Fairfax. It made the course even a more pleasant challenge.
The course itself was in terrific shape, given we had 40-plus mile an hour winds the two previous days. It didn't seem to have dried out the course at all. The greens aren't supposed to be aerated until 3/30 and 3/31, but they held approach shots nicely.
The staff was friendly and helpful. The beer cart girl even met up with us before we finished the first nine holes!
We were able to get around in just under 3 hours, so all in all, it was an excellent outing!
Excellent Course
This course was in very good condition for this time of the year. Weather was in the 40's and windy when we played. The greens were in great condition and speedier than I am used to playing so it took several holes to get it down. Most fairways had slope to them so aiming to the correct side is a must. Got a lot of roll in the fairways since the grass hasn't really started growing yet. Challenging course with the current conditions. Would be a great course to play later in the golfing season.
Too slow!
The aim of this golf course, as told me by the staff in the club house, is to maximize revenue. Do not expect a good golf experience. The day I played (70 degree weather in Feb!), no starter, no marshals, fivesomes, boom boxes all adds up to 5+ hrs and leaving the course at #15. Brandon in the club house said the weather caught them by surprise and what did I expect? I said I usually check the weather forecast. He then lectured me on the USGA pace of play guidelines, which seemed a bit pointless give we were already at the 4hrs 30min mark when we left the golf course with 3 holes to go. Cheap online rate, but sometimes cost is not everything.
I am sorry you had a bad experience and have visited with Brandon regarding such. As the owner, service is very important to me and my family and we will strive to provide you a better experience and hope you give us another chance.
Good Course
The course was nice and fairly challenging. The pace of play was slow but it was a very bust day. Overall, i will be back to play again
Great as always
Nicest course in Edmond and that's saying a lot. I love FAIRFAX. I hate the new 18 though. A par 5 dogleg left. If u hit a good drive ur punished by going through the fairway?! On a par 5???!! And it's a dangerous hole too because hitters on the driving range can reach the 18 fairway especially if there is a south wind, which in Oklahoma..... My grandpa got pelted by 2 range balls while standing in the FAIRWAY waiting for the group ahead to clear. The golf course put up a fence recently. But it's chain link..... Aaaand only 6 ft hi.... PUT UP SOME 20ft nets!!! Like Broadmoore. Like Earlywine. Etc. I liked the old no. 18 way better.
Pleased with NEW!
New, New and more New! New entrance, New Parking lot, New driving range, New routing of 18th hole, which is harder and more demanding than the old routing. I don't always score well on harder hole. However, they usually turnout to be my favorite. Because when I do score well, I feel like King Kong! I know there were more New improvements, just can't think of all of them. Branden the young man on the desk was very helpful and friendly. I am looking forward to playing there soon!
Upgraded facility and staff are excellent.
I've played this course weekly for several years. Recently, they opened a new expanded putting clock and driving range along with a new parking lot. The new additions add to an already great golf experience. The staff are always friendly and the course condition and greens have never been better or more consistent.
This course has great features
Course is in great shape!! The greens are in great shape now!!!the staff has always been the friendliest I've ever dealt with!!! A+
The course is horrible.
The course was in horrible condition, sanded greens and no notice, there wasn't even pins or flags on many holes. This place looks like it is going downhill fast. They are more interested in selling homes and maintaining the course. The staff at the counter were rude and said don't come back. This is a waste of money, maybe a $10 course at best.
I apologize for the course condition as you played on the day we airified the greens. Airification is a process in which holes are punched into the greens and new sand is inserted into the holes. We notified all the players of the condition including postings on Golf Now. We now know to not allow Golf Now to sale any rounds on airification day and for the next 10 days after. The greens are great now, so please come try us again and let me take care of your golf round. Ask for Rodney.
Good course
Tough course. Friendly people, nice place to play.
Fairfax good as always
The course was in great shape. Hadn't played there in several years. Better than I remember it. Top notch and a great deal to boot.
Excellent
Best course in the metro area on golfnow, and great prices
Nice course
Course was in great condition. You can't beat the deals you can find on golfnow.
I am sorry for your poor experience at Fairfax. As an owner, it always hurts to have a bad review. We take an enormous financial hit to have the young girls come to Fairfax, not because we have to, but because we want to. They are very important to us and that is why we donate to their cause. I pulled the tee sheet and we did have 17 members, 19 seniors, and 11 regular players stacking up on the junior girls, Next year, I will continue to donate the course, but give the girls 5 hours of play time .... because they matter to me and my family very much!
