Needs maintenance
First time playing this course. I like the layout of this links style course. Fairly flat, fairways are wide enough yet challenging. Lots of fairway bunkers that are in play for average distance drivers. Greens are larger than expected and most are well protected by bunkers. Staff was friendly and attentive. Not much in the way of a bar or snack bar.
Unfortunately the course is in poor shape overall. Tee boxes, fairways and greens all show signs of neglect with a lot of bare areas and ruts from maintenance vehicle tires. Greens are firm but the grass is so thin you can't properly repair ball marks, making for a whole lot of ball sized bare spots on the greens. The whole course is in dire need of aeration and over seeding.
If it were in better shape I'd love to play it more often, but my opinion is that it's not worth the greens fees in it's present condition.
Aberdeen
Course was in rough shape. Ground was hard as a rock. Pace was great.
Poorly Managed
It was cart path only but the fairways were dry. The only wet spots are at the sprinkler heads. They just needed to mark those as ground under repair. They did have patches of new sod laid, but they needed a lot more sod throughout the course. The tee markers needed to be moved. There's no ball & club washer on the carts and I only saw maybe 2 ball washers on the course (they took them down for covid and haven't returned them). They had a few water coolers on the course but no cups. Slow play as usual but they did have a marshal out on the course. I doubt I'll be going back anytime soon. It looks like the course is up for sale.
Not playable unless you know the course
Especially towards the middle of the front nine, I started to feel like everything was a blind shot. Maybe 200 yards out from the tee, there would be traps on both sides of the fairway, and you couldn't see what was past them. The fairways looked 10 yards wide. Many approach shots were the same. And if you happened to miss the green or fairway, the hay (rough) is overly punitive. Other holes were bounded by a tiny creek, which prevented you from even attempting to locate an errant shot. Unless you can hit everything dead straight all the time (and I was in heavy wind), you will need to get to know this course before it is playable. Some sort of course map would have been very helpful. The scorecard is not adequate. And why no ball washers anywhere on the course?
Good Shape For Mid-West March Golf
Considering it’s still March in the mid-west, the course was in great condition. 3 and half hour round. Not bad. Can’t beat it for the money.
Like the layout
Pars and birdies are possible on many holes from the forward tees for shorter hitters like me.
January Golf
January 17, mid 50's and sunny in St. Louis. Good day to play. Golf was cart path only, and this was expected. The course was in good shape for middle of winter, and we had a good round.
