Perfect Fairways and Good Greens
As I knew before playing, this course requires accuracy not distance. Fairways were like carpet but bent grass greens a little beat up due to players not repairing their ball marks. Greens could be unputtable due to the severe slopes in them; but green speeds at only around 8 helped. I hit hybrid off all par 4s and 5s accept two holes and this was from the “tips”. The elevation change helps to make this course shorter than the card yardage from the back tees. Definitely will be back again next year.
Awesome course with beautiful views.
Beautiful purse with awesome views. Starter was awesome and a great help as it was foggy and could not see where to hit the ball. The pro shop staff was not as friendly, but the course and starter made up for that.
Asheville Trip
Staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. They made everyone feel welcomed and appreciated. Course condition was immaculate. Very challenging course but friendly course for all levels of golf.
A lot of fun
This was great. The course is in phenomenal shape and the layout is mountain golf at its finest. Signature hole is a 200ft drop in elevation from tee to green. Super cool. Green we’re clean and fast. Fairways were in good shape and so we’re the tee boxes. The only real course issue was #16 par 3 was soppy wet but it is in one of the lowest parts of the course behind the mountain. The only other “issue” was bugs. There were gnats everywhere. I’d totally deal with them though. If I’m being picky the driving range distance wasn’t great and the snack bar was average. What matters is that the course was fantastic. Super enjoyable, fun, hard course, will be back.
Great find
Beautiful mountain course. Well maintained, fun layout.
Great golf course. I would play this course every day.
Amazing Layout Views Warm inviting Staff
Fairways/Bunkers/Tee boxes all in amazing shape. Layout and picturesque views are second to none. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating and they had several cart girls selling food and beverages every couple of holes. Greens seemed to have been punched recently so they were a little bumpy but overall still in pretty good shape. Overall biggest issue is always pace of play is extremely slow. A lot of1/2 somes that could be paired together all playing seperate groups and everybody waiting. We paid $125 a man and i would definitely come back next time we are in the area. Super fun layout always enjoy playing here!
Some problems
The greens had been aeriated a week earlier so they were still recovering. We new that ahead of time They were in the process of aerating the fairways but we only ran into one that was being worked on so not bad. I guess they don’t have enough maintenance staff to do fairways and prepare the bunkers for the days play because none of the bunkers had been raked. The GPS unit in our two carts never worked regardless of trying to turn the cart off and on or unplugging the unit and then plugging it back in. Brakes on the carts would not hold on some of the steeper parking areas.
If Sequoyah is going to keep increasing green fees then they should also make sure the paying golfers get better amenities to go along with the increased rates.
The layout is truly amazing so I still recommend playing this course.
Great course, beautifully groomed. Very nice pro shop and practice facilities. But there is no bar or restaurant, For a course this elegant, it is a major flaw.
Sequoyah National
The zoysia fairways and tee boxes really elevated this wonderful layout. They are in desperate need to update the golf carts. The GPS didn’t work on my cart 3 days in a row. The course is so popular now, the pace of play was poor all 3 days. But I will play again when in the area.
Fairways were Zoysia grass and flawless
other than the pace of play two days in a row, I love the course and layout.
So glad I played despite hard rain
Was raining so hard in downtown area and nobody was answering my phone calls so I figured course was closed. 3 hours from my house but I've been wanting to at least see it for 2 years so i stopped by anyway while I was in the area. So glad I did.
Was hesitant to play but players just coming off assured me it drained very well, and they were correct. Rain stayed off, just slight rain, plenty pleasant enough to continue to play.
The clubhouse is basically an 800 square foot house with nothing to speak off but don't let that fool you. Step behind the clubhouse and look at the range...amazing view that only gets better.
at least 14 of the 18 holes can be signature holes elsewhere. No real water to speak of, would've loved a waterfall feature or fountain somewhere.
Pure mountain golf with major elevation changes and undulating greens.
What makes this course so great is not just the artificial turf like conditions that rival any PGA course I've played (Sawgrass, Pinehurst, Summerlin, Scottsdale to name a few) but the layout is absolutely spot on if you play from your proper tees. The yardage length tee to green was planned perfectly including accounting for the elevation changes. One example of this is hole 15 where you're teeing to a fairway that is at least 300 feet below in elevation drop...and your drive will be well over 300 yards...yet with a normal 250 yard drive swing you'll end up dead center of the dogleg. What a tremendous design.
Trent Jones got it right when designing. Elevated tees to greens below on nearly every hole. Maybe one hole you're hitting to an elevated green.
Get a golfnow rate. Don't pay the rack rate of $150+. when you pay $85 and less. Still pretty pricey for my taste but this is by far the best mountain course I've ever played.
Wow
I had read all the recent positive reviews and my expectations were still exceeded. I truly enjoyed the course, played the gold tees. As others have mentioned the fairways are in exceptional condition. The greens were very good although slow and golfers are not fixing their ball marks, unreal have some class. Anyway, don’t hesitate, I drove an hour each way and have no regrets. Decent range included hit off grass or nice mats. Amazing views!!!
Great Fairways
Everything about this course is excellent. If you haven’t played golf on perfect zoysia fairways this course will be something special for you,
Amazing!
With a GN Hot Deal rate of $64 it was a steal but well worth the rack rate. The outstanding conditions of the course coupled with the unparalleled views makes this possibly the best course I have ever played. That’s comparing it to course like sawgrass, bay hill, Torrey pines, pelican hill, yocha de he, etc. Need different carts for the up, down, twisty cart paths. Need to be governed downhill and auto lock brakes. If it had amenities such as a full service restaurant it would be considered luxury. Got to plan a trip for my FL golf buddies. MUST PLAY.
