Carolina National Golf Club - Heron Nine
About
Situated along the banks of the Lockwood Folly River, Carolina National Golf Club takes advantage of the scenic low country landscape. The 27-hole course was designed by Fred Couples, whose preservation of the terrain earned the course the certification as an Audubon Sanctuary. The golf course is divided into three nines that are played in 18-hole combinations. The Heron, Egret, and Ibis are named after the birds that call the course home. Each nine offers a different set of challenges. The Heron is both the most scenic and the longest nine. The three par 4s all measure over 400 yards and the final hole is a par 5 that is 587 yards long. The layout has a few holes that play along the river, including the par-3 fifth, which has a green that is almost entirely surrounded by water. This nine will reward strong mid-to-long iron play.

Curmudgeon Pro Shop
The course was in great shape as always. I have played here the last three years on vacation. I paid for 27 holes with lunch and after 18 I decided I should get back to the house due to slow play. I asked if I could get a refund on the other nine, store credit, etc. A younger kid seemed willing to help and convince the older gentleman the way it could be done properly but the older worker said there was nothing that could be done. Not much customer service from the pro shop. The starter was tremendous as always. The bag men were great as well. I’ll not be back to this course
10/10
This course was amazing. We had an amazing time with the folks paired with us. The starter was extremely nice and classy, as were the rest of the staff! Course conditions were amazing, you can tell this is a championship course! And only for 47 dollars as well! We will definitely be back!
Hello and thank you for your 5-star rating! We're delighted you enjoyed your round. Please book another round with us soon, and thanks for choosing Carolina National Golf Club - Ibis Nine!
Downhill
Sent us out to play Heron
/Ibis behind some incredibly slow players. We skipped a hole to move ahead and didn't pick up pace until we made the turn into Ibis where we were alone. The fairways are in good shape. The greens were recovering from top dressing and were sandy. The Ibis track was even worse. Fairways are still in good shape but the greens were in poor shape with diseased areas and very recent top dressing. It looked like snow from the tee box. Terrible bunkers, no rakes, no maintenance. No water on the course, no sand provided to fill divots. No cart person with refreshments......used to be a premiere course.....don't know what's happening there.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the team. Thanks for visiting Carolina National Golf Club - Ibis Nine, and we hope to see you again in the future.
Mixed bag
I really enjoy the layout of all three 9s here. Greens were pretty meh. Maybe a recent plugging but bumpy. Had a sand shot on Egret where the lawnmower kept rolling as we were going to take tee shots. After I hit into the sand with a side wall plug, he laughed at both my and my father in law’s next shots - felt like I was at Bushwood with Bill Murray, which was a new experience.

First Time
Nice course. The peace of play was very good. The layout was nice. There were many holes you needed proper placement or you were blocked out. I would play again.

Needs a lot of work
This was my fourth or fifth round there and the course is typically in good shape, but the greens were horrible. Was told they were punched 3-4 weeks ago, so you would expect the greens to be in better shape by now. The cart paths are absolutely horrible, the bunkers are a joke and when the heat index is 97, the course MUST have water in coolers on the course or at least have a snack cart riding around offering beverages and snacks. Hate being so derogatory, but it was EXTREMELY disappointing!! Not worth the money!
Hello dawson80, thank you for taking the time to review us, and for the 3 stars. We're sorry to hear the course may not have been in the best shape on the day of your round, and we appreciate your feedback regarding the greens so may work on any necessary improvements. Thank you for choosing to golf with us, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
Heron’s layout & condition
The various tee options give a real choice for everyone. Played the blues which were great for us . Course layout presented challenging but fair holes. Quite a bit of distance between holes. The greens were recently “sanded “ which negated some break but the ball rolled true. Another plus to us was the lack of houses setting next to the course. Definitely would play this again.

Bunkers need some TLC
Always enjoy Carolina National but they really need to get some proper sand in the green side bunkers. Absolutely impossible to make a proper sand shot. I play there once every week or two and was hoping they would fix it before I said anything. Otherwise it is a good course for the $$.

Awesome course - punched greens make for a weird round
Loved the course. Was on vacation so took advantage of a hot deal given my availability. Loved the back nine ibis, egret on the front had punched greens. Impossible to get a true feel or even 2 putt. Will definitely be back but will be adamant about checking to see if greens are punched. Mid June is an odd time to do so and would have appreciated a heads up.

Would go again
Fun course to play. Greens are being groomed and sand traps didn’t really have loose sand to play normal bunker shots. But a beautiful course otherwise and interesting layout.

The Greens had recently been sanded but no mention of this by the pro shop. Made putting on the greens pointless. For $57 I could have gone right across the street
and played Oak Island Golf Club. The grass on the fairways was really minimal. Lots of bare places. The only reason I booked this course is that I could go through golf now and get credit for points. I paid at the course so I guess if payment is arranged that way instead of paying Golf Now directly the customer does not get credit for points which appears to be the case. Just checked my account and no points accrued for yesterday. Oh well. You know what they say. A bad day on the golf course is better than a good day at work.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience you experienced at the course. If you call GolfNow, they would be happy to rectify the situation. We hope this clears any confusion up and we hope you give us another try in the future.
