Great Test of Golf
We played three times from the tips and enjoyed each one. Course is quite a challenge at that length and the wind was up, along with the son. We were first off all three days and finished before the heat of the day leaving the beach for that.
Many challenging holes with great risk reward opportunities. Course was in great shape for midsummer North Carolina sun and heat and we felt a bargain for quality golf at a fair price.
Will take it on again if I ever vacation anywhere near Atlantic Beach or Emerald Isle.
North River Golf Beaufort NC
Great course just north of Beaufort. Nice layout with large greens. Got a good rate thru GolfNow. Me and my brother-in-laws really enjoyed our round. A must play when you are in the area.
Outstanding Layout!
For the price, this is a great track. Several interesting holes. The wind adds to the course complexity. Greens average speed but rolled true and you can shoot at the pins. I don't know any of the details behind this golf venue, but I hope it can make it financially. Some of the fairway sand traps are not maintained, so you wonder about the cost. Great clubhouse. Has to be the best layout in 50 miles.
The course has great features.
First time playing this course and I will for sure be playing it again. some of the facilities are still under construction. Overall a great course!!
Best Course for the $$$ in the Area
I always love playing at N. River. The course is a gem and the new drop-dead gorgeous clubhouse they just built is one of the best I've ever seen. The course itself is a good blend of links-style and traditional golf. The wind is always a factor which helps make it so challenging. I gladly drive from Jacksonville, NC to the other side of Beaufort, NC to visit and play North River!
Tough from the tips!
The course was a challenging set up despite wide fairways and plenty of distance markers to help find proper targets. The course was in great shape, had a good look to it - despite the surrounding area not being anything special, and played like a championship caliber course.
As a once-a-year visitor to the area, I have played a half dozen or so courses within half an hour of Morehead City, NC, and North River is definitely my favorite.
Son in law
Great time with my son in law. The new clubhouse looks great. No restaurants yet but I am sure they will do the right thing
Nice Changes
Big Improvements. Greens were excellent. Sand Traps need better drainage.
Visiting Atlantic Beach from Ohio
Short, easy drive from Atlantic Beach. Brand new clubhouse. Friendly, helpful staff. Great driving range and putting green. Fairways in great shape and the greens were excellent. Fun, generous layout. Book an early tee time and meet your family at the beach by noon. I enjoyed it enough to book it for a second day of play. This course deserves more visitors.
Great course
Played it twice this week and many times over the last several years. One of my favorite courses any place. I love it. Greens are fantastic. New clubhouse is absolutely a showplace, it is beautiful. Snack bar was not yet opened. Lots of work being done to improve the course. By far the best course in the area. A must play.
great features
One of the best courses in the area. A fair & chalanging layout. Great for low to middle hadicappers.
Love playing in the wind
Love this course. If you avoid the fairway bunkers you can score low. If not, ouch! Beautiful greens and scenery..
Great Course
This was a great course! Difficult, but fun. The layout was great...water and sand everywhere. Only thing they need to work on are some of the bunkers. They were pretty washed out, but I bet they will have those in shape by the time beach season is here.
Nice course that needs some work
This is a strange course. The layout is probably wonderful, but I could not really tell. Since I played while the grass was dormant, it was mostly brown, but very playable. However, the bunkers were horrible. Some were flooded and some were eroded, and very few were even playable. That said, when the course greens up in the spring, it should be a great place to play. Much water, although most can be avoided. Even though the course does not seem new (scorecard copyright date is 2007, I think), there is no real clubhouse. They even use porta-potties still, and very little merchandise in pro shop and next to nothing for food and beverages. If these things are not important to you, PLAY THE COURSE in the nice weather seasons--you should enjoy it.
Best course on the Crystal coast!
Beautiful course right out in the country.
Great greens and challenging fairways..water on every hole!!
Facilities not great as clubhouse not built.Portaloo toilets. Friendly staff, beer for sake in pro shop...excellent value for money!
Pleasantly Surprised
Read previous reviews and wasn't sure what to expect. Turned out to be an exceptional golfing experience. Course was in good shape, greens were medium quickness and rolled true and the layout was excellent. Water on nearly every hole, but many times just for visual effect. When it did come on to play you had to hit quality shots to avoid. Without a doubt next time in the area I'll make a return visit.
Great course
Links style course. Awesome layout. Would play it again and again.
BUT, no public bathrooms for golfers, portapoties
No refreshments, used lawn signs for directions.
BUT spectacular piece of property.
Awesome Time!
This is a great course. I think the bunkers are pretty much washed out for the season, a muddy, thick mess (lots of rain recently)- but do not let that stop you. Somehow I didn't end up in the bunkers so it didn't bother me. This is the best course in the area, easily. Water on every hole, long and in great shape. The greens were great as well! I would play there as much as possible if I lived in the area. Don't be too far off the fairway either or it gets difficult fast! I love that place!
Great value
We have been playing this course every Oct for the last 5 years, and it is getting better each year. The greens are superb and always a good lie in the fairways. The ruff is cut a little too short to be much of a penalty, but there is a fair amount of water to compensate. By far the nicest course in the area ( and we have played them all) . The rack rate is a little pricey but Golf Now turns it into a good deal.
