Excellent trek
Very enjoyable round!! No real arrival or course ending attention but overall enjoyable place to play!!
Slooooowww
We played at 9am on a beautiful Sunday and it was still a 5+ hour round. We waited on every tee and usually every approach shot. It’s a nice, well kept course and a fun layout but 5+ hour rounds are never acceptable, especially when you are paying well over $100 for the round.
Good course
This is a well maintained course that is visually beautiful. The greens are fast and the course is tight. Overall a tough course. Staff was really friendly. We got behind three foursomes playing a tournament, so play was slow. Overall a good choice to play if you're visiting the Outer Banks.
Not worth the cost.
Don't get me wrong, this course was fun and challenging, but the cost was not worth it. The layout is solid and the green were well kept. On the other hand, the carts are very derelict and the amenities lack what you would expect for the price tag.
Recommend taking a drive above 30min north to Eagle Creek to play if you can.
Inconsistent greens, slow play, arrogant staff, nice layout, overpriced
Summary:
- there are 1-2 foot rings around most greens that are in terrible shape. Bare of grass, weeds, etc.
- starters are erratic and inconsiderate. Forced my 3some to start early before our tee time and before we were ready, to play with a single they forced to wait 20+ minutes after his tee time. Then we waited on the second tee box and beyond.
- Greens were inconsistent. On one green, my ball went up the slope and rolled back down. On others, they stopped on a fairly steep downhill. They didn’t seem to be cut to the same height at the same time.
- $135 per round should get a MUCH higher quality golf experience.
Full story on the starter item:
We arrived 45 minutes before our 9:06am tee time. Made it to the range 25 minutes before tee time. Planned to hit balls for 15, putt for 8, be on the tee box at tee time. 10 minutes into hitting balls, staff member tells us head to tee box 10, need to start you early. I said I’m sorry but I’m not ready. I need to finish hitting the balls I bought, and then putt. He said we’re backed up and need to get you out early. I said I’m sorry, but my tee time is 9:06 and for $135 a round, I need to be ready. Walked over to the putting green. The starter was there and 3 mins later said get on the tee box now or go home. I explained to him as calmly as I could manage that this was unacceptable and unreasonable. He could ask me to go early but not force me. Nevertheless, we went. I didn’t get to get a read for the greens, and 3-putted 4 holes on the front 9. Shot 48 front 41 back.
What makes it worse is the group in front of us was still in the way when we got onto the tee box. And we waited on every tee box. Why the rush? Especially when we clearly weren’t ready to go BEFORE OUR TEE TIME? And why the disrespectful treatment? I won’t be back to this course.
Great Round
Overall really enjoyed the course. All the fringes were completely dead and brown, not sure what happened to them. But greens and tee boxes were in great shape. Enjoyed the back 9 more than the front, but overall enjoyed the course
Great day
The staff was extremely friendly and informative. The course was in good shape and maintained well, I found it a little pricey for my budget and skill level. I am used to paying around 60-70 dollars for a round.
Great Start- Poor Finish
Awesome start, great front 9. Played it in 1.5 hours with no one in sight. Make the turn to find three groups waiting on the 10th tee. Took almost 3 hours to finish the back nine. Waiting on two groups every tee box. How does this happen? I mean I know the answer. You sent people off the back. Awesome course. Really disappointed in the log jam. Played late in the day to avoid a log jam. Won’t be back. But beautiful layout and challenging course. Unfortunately the back 9 experience soured the day.
First Time
Loved the layout and course design. First time playing and very hard. If you miss the fairway you don't have a swing 80% of the time.
Greens very fast and true.
High handicappers will struggle but will enjoy the tour and scenery, Low handicappers will love the challenge.
Course with some character
By using the Golf Now app we had excellent savings. Course was in decent condition. A number of greens were under repair on the fringes, new sod had been laid. As a result on several holes I skipped short chip shots. Course had a number of interesting holes with both water and sand traps. Also watch out for snakes, we saw several, one on a green sunning himself and two on tee boxes, each three to four feet!
Good Bones
The course has some issues with greens around the course. If they step up keeping the greens nicer it would be rated much higher as I liked the course, it had good bones as they say. I heard back in the day it was really nice. The staff was very friendly and nice. Quick service in the bar area at the turn if you call ahead. They did a great job in the bar and club house area. For the money you can find cheaper courses in the same condition. They did play music at the range which was nice. Could be the time of year. I'll go back sometime and see if the course improves.
Disappointed with course maintenance
A few greens in really bad shape as were some of tee boxes. Many showing the wear of long season. So for the price paid, in my opinion, not really worth the $$$.
Course is more of a target golf layout. Multiple doglegs so you have to leave your shots in position to go for green.
Staff were helpful.
