Warrior Golf Club is a fun day on the links.
The Warrior might be a little off the beaten path but it is worth the trip. The course was in great shape and flew around it in 3 1/2 hours. The heat may have kept players away but that was a blessing. Par 5's were reachable in 2 with good shots even from the blue tees. But get a little greedy and you will find trouble lurking. Par 3's from the blue tees were also challenging. Par 4's were a mix of easy and tough holes. Will return.
Great shape, cart gps but a few issues
Beautiful and greens are always good but little things like no sand in the bunkers, bar/grill that closes mid-afternoon and uneven tee boxes keep it from being great. They have golf cart mounted gps now which is great! Approach view gives you front and back of green distances. Only problem is if you go off your fairway, on the fairway on a par 3 or to a "prohibited area" to play a ball it slows down to 2mph (slower than a walk) until you get back. Doesn't sound like much but it really slows up play. Great idea, just a little too micro-managed. You also get "Speed up" messages even if the group(s) in front of you are holding you back. Nothing ticks you off more than waiting on a group for 16 holes and then getting a message to speed up.
You can order from the grill on the gps too on number 9, assuming you get there before the grill closes or around 3pm. Use an old club or a big tee on number 7. Artificial turf on the tee and it is littered with pebbles, I assume from wash or throw from mower but you'll see sparks if you ground the club. No water in afternoon in water jugs, range or course.
Little too pricy compared to surrounding courses
Over all was an ok course. Watering sprinklers came on twice while putting. The course layout was confusing with the directions to the next hole not apparent. GPS only worked on the front 9. Pace of play was great. Greens rolled slow but consistent. Bunkers need serious attention.
Price should be dropped when considering the conditions and value of other courses nearby.
True Greens
The course was in great shape. There was a continuous fine mist of rain all day. The greens rolled very true. It was a pleasure to play even with the weather conditions.
Really Nice course
Very nice course... Some narrow fairways, ample par 3s and 5s.. . Recommend you buy the book on the course at the clubhouse... Good tips... Some fairways have roll offs which are highlighted in the tips in the book... Scenery is excellent throughout...
Highly recommend this course.
Worth the Trip
I always enjoy playing Warrior. The course is well maintained and consistent. Plush fairways, terrific greens, good bargain and a super staff all make it well worth the trip from Matthews.
Still no sand in bunkers, bar was closed.
Played a few weeks ago and nothing but gravel and dirt in the bunkers on the back 9. I played again hoping it was just washed out from rain but weeks later same thing and obviously they hadn't had rain in a while. I peeked at a couple on the front and they too lacked sand. How much does sand cost? Course is fairly easy unless you hit a green side bunker. No sand to get between the ball and the club so twice I flew the green by 10 yards. Please put some sand in those bunkers or put red paint around them. Greens were great as they were before but tee boxes are well used but some were new. Get your food early or pack a snack as restaurant closes early afternoon. There were drinks in the pro shop.
Another One Bites the Dust - Course Gone
Warrior staff obviously leaving positive feedback on here. Course nowhere near what was described by last couple reviewers. This one is a nightmare. I swore never to play again but was told the course had improved. WRONG. If anything much worse. Greens were a little better but obviously whoever plays this course forgot how to repair ball marks on the greens. Every green had at least 10 ball marks not repaired. Literally at least 10 on every green. And whoever claimed the tee boxes were in great condition obviously did not play this course. Again the tee boxes are the worst I think I have ever seen. At least one tee box, I literally have to tee up on the outside of the box. If you gonna leave feedback, be honest. Otherwise. others will be twice as mad if they get there expecting a 5 star course.
Sunday Afternoon
Nice pace, good shape, fun course, played well... no complaints
Always worth the trip
One of the better courses in the entire Charlotte/Metro area and clearly the best value for the money spent. Excellent greens, fast/true. Great tee boxes, great sight lines, excellent turf and bunker condition. Staff is always wonderful, practice tee is outstanding.
Great place!!
Mr.Lee who is the golf pro is a great guy and very friendly along with all of the other staff members!! I love this course have played it three times and never once had a problem!
Graet Course!!!
Really nice course, I will be playing it again!! Fairways were in nice shape and the greens were in good condition.
GREAT COURSE
Great course! Excellent conditions and well worth the drive.
Save Your Time and Money. This One is a Cow Pasture.
If you have to play this course, take an old set of clubs. This one will ruin a set of clubs. The tee boxes are horrible. They even have mats set up to hit off of. They seems to have trouble getting grass to grow on the tee boxes. The greens are very bumpy and do not roll true. Its a fairly easy to course in which you can grip and rip. That is if their course management was better. Usually you are waiting on groups ahead of you. So that usually takes the driver out of your hands. Very slow pace of play, even during the week. Then the golf pro shop staff has a lot of work to do on customer service. They act as if their course is the only course in this state. When in fact its the worse course in this state. At least the ones I have played. Save your time and money as others have stated. This one is not worth the money. Even at $20 I would hesitate playing.
Poor start time co-ordination.
All midday start times were delayed by an hour because of a lack of sufficient number of carts.
Very annoying. Pro shop should warn you about the long delay.
Great greens make up for rough tee boxes and no sand in bunkers
Warrior always has top notch greens. They must have a great grounds guy. Even when aerated they are slit vs plugged and playable.
Layout is nice and course is beautiful and somewhat secluded, especially on the back nine.
Most of the tee boxes have issues from heavy play and ?. Hard to find a level spot to to take a stance and hit from on the blue or white boxes. I can tee it up if no grass but I can't make it level. It looks like they are reworking some on the par 3's so probably getting better soon.
Sand traps are red clay and gravel on the back nine and some of the front which is rough on clubs and your score. Picking the ball clean works for the fairway bunkers but the ones by the greens are a problem. You can't take a slice of sand since there isn't any which makes a nice out difficult. A player should be penalized for hitting the trap but deserves an opportunity to make it up. For the prices charged, a little sand should be included.
Nice course and no other public courses in immediate area so crowded Fri - Sun and holidays.
relaxing
It is very beautiful at warrior. The only problem i noticed was the tee boxes. They are basicly sand. The course plays very easy
THE NICEST COURSE IN OUR IMMEDIATE AREA
I"ve always wanted to play this course on a regular bases and now through GolfNow this inables me to do it. When looking for somewhere to ply local I always look to see the availability of Warrior. It"s very challenging and but rewards good shots. We play from the white tees but this course offers [2] more levels, Blue and Black...not for me :{. But it"s very fun and very fair. Give this one a try, You"ll enjoy it.
beautiful course
Had to wait for a golf cart. They had a tournament going on. Traps were washed out from heavy rain the day before. Love the layout.
Wounded Warrior
I found a hot deal for $20 and this course was well worth that. It's not worth more than $25. There are no sand in the bunkers...only mashed mud. The tee boxes don't exist. Other than those two factors however...this is an excellent course. The fairways, including all the surrounding shrubery and trees are maintained well. The greens are in perfect condition. The staff was great. Like I said....take away the absolutely horrendous tee boxes and mud pits and it's a really good course, especially with the Golf now Hot Deal.
I was stuck behind a tournament so it took me 5 hours to play. Each hole is seperate and it meanders around a large lake so in between holes is quite a drive at times. Definetly not a walking course. Not really challenging bu fair amount of difficult shots should you not hit what you intended to hit.
If I'm in this area and I find another hot deal I'll play again but I'm not driving 35 miles again just to play this place.
