Expected More
Course was in generally rough shape, even for the season. Greens rough in some places, excellent in others. The layout was nice and I would imagine it would be much better in season. Don’t book the range rate online, you won’t see the range in the morning, but you’ll still pay. Service was just awful. The gentlemen in the clubhouse was aloof. He challenged if I had a tee time,. I told him I booked online this morning, he qipped back “I didn’t see anything”. Magically the tee time was there. He told me I would be lost if he didn’t explain some things to me (like how a pin sheet worked). He also suggested I play the tees at 5700 yds. I was curious and asked him why he suggested that. I know sometimes playing a challenging course alone for the first time can be difficult to know where the target is. He instead said, it’s like 400 yds shorter than the next tee set (no kidding, you don’t say). He never asked my handicap, how far I hit, or anything to make the suggestion. Very odd. I played his suggested tees, it was far too short, quite a few par 4’s were drivable. I hit a half wedge into a par 5 on my second shot. It was like playing a pitch and putt. I know I could have moved back on my own, by the time I was convinced it was just bad advice, I just wanted to see how low I could go. So, I guess really thats on me. Not a great experience. Not worth the price.
Great course! I’ve seen in in spring it’s pretty course lots af scenic holes . Hard but fun to play! My friends love it when they come to town
Lost It's Luster
It should never take over 5.5 hours to play 18 holes. Tot Hill Farm is a very difficult course requiring play from the appropriate tee's. A course Marshall does not exist. Greens had numerous damaged areas that were almost impossible to putt through. Played Tot Hill Farm about 12 yrs ago & was excited to play again. Extremely disappointed. Not the same quality of course! I did remember the Pro Shop being minimalistic but did not remember it being so sparsely stocked. Glad I got to play it again because I am a fan of Mike Strantz designed courses, e.g. Tobacco Road & Caledonia. Was just disappointing to see a decline as it is a unique experience.
Diamond in the rough
Great Mike Strantz design Every hole is fun Love this course more and more every time I play it Greens are better but still not great Other than that no complaints
Great fun course
Had a fun time
Played solo and shot 77
Very fair play
Good greens and nice fairways
A course you should try
It was the fall so the course was beautiful. If you are not familiar with the course you can easily get into trouble. Course is in very good condition and it is a well worth playing
The ole girl is not the same as she used to be
Amazing layout but the conditions have slipped.
Staff was great as always.
It had been 4 or 5 years since I last played there.
Lots of hills
The course overall was in very good shape. There are some bare spots on the greens but was able to move the ball around some to get a good shot at the hole. Greens seemed a little slow than what I am used to in the Raleigh area. I would play again when I am in that area.
Very Nice Course
Played middle of the week. High of 80, sunny day. Played before but was 10 or more years ago. Couple of tee boxes had to look for but resolved fairly quick. Several blind shots and elevation changes made course more challenging. Fairways were in great shape. Some greens had some rough spots or some weed grasses growing in them but didn't interfere with the putting stroke. Overall we both enjoyed the course and will probably play again even though it is a 45 minute drive for us.
The greens needed attention, fairways too.
No cars in the parking lot was odd to start with. The greens were missing some pretty good sized areas but they putted OK but not great, like back when Tot Hill was in its heyday.
They’ve lost their greens
Gorgeous golf course, but the greens are in terrible shape. It’s a shame because they used to be awesome.
Course is not as good as you see from the road
Looks can be deceiving! Great looking course from the road, driving range is great, and decent club house. Once you get past holes 1-2 the greens are TBD. I hate it for such a beautiful place and so close to home. Hopefully things will come around eventually.
Online booking
The POOR RATINGS are not intended to reflect the golf course not the Staff at this facility...I booked online to play Tot Hill Farm. Drove an hour and a half to the course. Upon arrival found no cars in parking lot so I decided to call Pro Shop to confirm time. Was informed that the front nine had been punched that morning and they were beginning to do the back nine and only would have nine holes open. I canceled my time and now had to drive one and a half hours home. Not blaming the Pro shop or staff at Tot Hill Farm but the ONLINE SCHEDULING!!! Next time I will call the course I want to play. I might not get the DISCOUNTED RATE that was advertised but I feel my time is important as well as having that personal contact and connection. Will never use online booking again.
Very disappointed on conditions of the greens. Front 9 greens were almost unplayable with lack of grass and/or clay/mud. At no point upon arrival until teeing off on Hole 1, were we told about the conditions. Lack of range balls and starter to manage pace of play. Severely disappointed of how far the course conditions have dropped since last year.
Quite a shame
It was sad to see these conditions on a course that I remembered with fondness from sume time ago with such a memorable design. Greens were unplayable. One whack and then just pick up. Plenty of weeds all around. Be prepared to be jostled on 'car path'.. Difference in conditions with courses actually nearer Pinehurst is incalculable. Wide open tee sheet on a perfect weather Sunday should have been a clue.
Yes the greens have fungus and are very spotty
But the fairways are super and the layout and beauty never gets old
So if everything has to be perfect for you to have a good time take a pass here
But if you love playing on a fun course this is still outstanding
Hopefully in the near future the greens will turn around and the golf snobs will be happy
