Tega Cay Golf Club is surrounded by Lake Wylie, its name even means "beautiful peninsula" in Polynesian. Despite the secluded setting, the club is only minutes from Charlotte and Rock Hill. The club is distinct for being the area's only 27-hole facility. The holes are divided into three nines that can be played in different 18-hole combinations. The Grande View Course is the longest of the three nines at 3,276 yards and it is also considered the most challenging. This nine is the most popular, the finishing hole was even voted the "favorite 18th hole in the Charlotte Area" by listeners of the local radio station. As its name implies, Grande View is characterized by its stunning hilly landscape. From the golf course's elevations, the views stretch across lush meadows and wooded hills.

Fun little track. Well kept.

Fun track that’s pretty well kept. It’s a tight course, and a lot of holes have wooded edges that do not allow for recovering arrant/long tee balls. It’s a short course though so still very gettable. Greens roll nice. We’re fast when I played. Says bent grass greens but I’ve never seen bent grass with grain like that. Thought they were Bermuda as well. See a lot of reviews about unfriendly staff. I thought the lady at the turn snack bar was great. The girl in the pro shop and cart girl were nice as well. I will say Bill is a little over the top. We missed an entry stake by maybe 5ft and were threatened with being kicked off the course it happened again. Oh and completely blind driving not ideal but nice grass to swing on. All in all was a great experience. Seemed pricey but I don’t know comps around Charlotte and their cost so maybe not.

Staff Friendliness

Rude staff throughout with the exception of the on course beverage cart person. Starting with the lady checking in players. Saw a Marshall on the 1st hole & then never again. Since it was cart path only, one would think there would be a constant Marshall presence to keep up the pace of play. Pace of play was just over 5 hours. First of back-to-back par 5's on the back 9 is tricked up. Your typical "muni" environment. With the course they have, they could definitely step up their game to make it a more memorable experience.

Nothing Special

Had the opportunity to play here with some friends. Enjoyed the round and the course layout… conditions were average, possibly slightly above average! Nice facilities and the cart were nice and clean. No real complaints.

A Unique Must-Play Course

I've always enjoyed playing Tega Cay, and this round in late June was no exception. It's an interesting combination of typical Carolinas neighborhood golf with several holes of challenging elevation changes in both directions, funky doglegs, and holes with challenging water hazards on the back nine. The course was in tremendous shape and the greens were firm and fast. Definitely a fair test for all players.

I will say, however, that I was disappointed with more than one staff member. The starter politely asked us if we could come down to the tee early to tee off before another group, allowed one of us to play on #1, then held us up and let the other group go. Then a ranger quite rudely demanded our group of four to consolidate our three carts (provided by the kind pro shop staff) into two without being polite and courteous. A local playing in our group said that is the normal attitude for the on-course staff, and I would ask the course to consider monitoring this to make sure guests enjoy their experience more.

Still worth a trip if in the area for sure.

Great First Impression

Under threatening skies, my friend and I played The Pines/Grande View combination at Tega Cay. We were immediately impressed with the club house, the friendliness of the pro shop team, and the brand new electric carts.

We were fortunate to be paired with a long time member, Don, who helped us with the strategy of this challenging course. There is a premium on position and shot making at this course. It seems like half the holes have a beautiful Vista from the tee. Fairways are narrow and the rough is not too punitive.

But the layout is not the only thing that is excellent at this course - the fairways, tee boxes, fairways and sandtraps were all in excellent shape. What really stood out for us was the excellent greens. Very fast and true, the greens held a well hit shot, unlike many of the greens in our area.

We can't wait to get back to Tega Cay.

Get a new staff

Course was great. The lady in the golf shop in her late 60's thought she was 20 was rude and lazy. Plus the guy outside from NY was loud and very rude as well. Would not recommend unless one could pass the employees. They both need to be fired. As for the course it was in great shape and well kept. Too bad employees can make it look so bad, especially with many courses to choose from.

Rainy Season, Carth Path Only but Still Fun

The first thing to know about Tega Cay is that the course is three 9-hole courses. The championship "18 hole" course is comprised of Carolina Pines/Grand View. Grand View is the 2nd nine (or 10-18). The name fits because the views are beautiful.

Advice: Take a cart. The elevation changes are significant and walking would be exhausting unless you are in really good shape. Plus the course winds through the Tega Cay neighborhood so there are some long distances between tees for some holes.

Pace of Pace of Play - I played at 12:30 on a Thursday (it was in the high 40s/low 50s). We (twosome) finished in 3 1/2 hours. We could have finished sooner but we had to wait for one foursome ahead that slowed things down a bit.

It has been a really rainy winter so it was cart path only. I was surprised how nice the greens were given the wet weather. The fairways had a few issues but nothing really bad.

The elevation changes were fun and challenging. I loved the long drives on a few holes when you got a nice bounce down hill but there were also a few elevated greens that made you think how much club to add for the added distance.

One Improvement needed (and I shared this with the guys in the Pro Shop after my round): They need better signs. On the first whole I played as a single and I did not know where hole 2 was (turns out it was across the street). I joined up with another golfer on Hole 6 (Carolina Pines) and I was so glad I did because I probably would have gotten lost a few more times. He even said that he has played the course a number of times and he even misses the tunnel (8th hole, I think) sometimes (as he did the day we were playing).

They do have a driving range, putting green, and chipping area. The Range is elevated which I don't really like but it actually made sense once you got on the course.

I would definitely play this course again. I bet that this course is just beautiful in late April/May into the summer.

Course Conditions Have Improved

I played Tega Cay about a month ago with many patchy spots, rough tee boxes, and burnt out greens. However, conditions have improved greatly. Some tee boxes are closed for renovation but most remaining tees are in better shape. Fairways were nice and green, and the greens were rolling true and fast. Definitely worth a trip to play here now that conditions have improved. Nice amenities too; it really has a private club feel with a great clubhouse.

This place is in rough shape

So, played this course 1st time with my buddy, who is a golf novice. First of all this place overall is in rough shape right now. They have had a lot of rain recently. There are numerous of places on this course that are distressed. Tee boxes that have little or no grass on them, that are still open with markers on them. The 18th green is a disaster area. Those are hopefully just temporary issues here. The real issue that I saw is that the front side is gimmicky, blind shots, trees that get in the way. The back side is a way better and fairer layout, but even it has a strange hole or two. There is a lot of up and down here and it looks like they saved the best land to build houses. I know that the second time you play here you will know better where to play your ball. But for me once was enough. The next time I am in Charlotte I will find somewhere else to play.

Fun Layout but Needs Rain Badly

The course is a lot of fun and pretty easy so long as you don't spray the ball off the tee. Back nine (Grande View) provides a more challenging layout with more water hazards. Most of the greens were in great shape and rolling true, but there were four or five really patchy greens. Additionally, the tee boxes and fairways were VERY dry. Not sure if it's just a lack of rain or a lack of watering but the course needs water badly. It has the potential to be much better than it was this day.

OVERALL: 6.1/10, with the potential to be 7.5 - 8/10 with better conditions.

Tega Cay Golf Club - Carolina Pines and Grandview

Played the Carolina Pines and Grandview nines of Tega Cay Golf Club today. Tega Cay is a public facility, but has very much a private club feel. The facilities are top notch, from the practice areas to the clubhouse to the turnhouse. The CP and GV nines make up the majority of the 18 hole routings, although there is another 9 holes, called the Cove that is sometimes used as an alternate 9, but can be played by itself.
The tees and fairways are bermuda grass and all were in fantastic shape. Bunkers were well maintained and full of soft, white sand. Greens were receptive and quick! Most of the greens are large, with the exception of the 10th, and have subtle breaks instead of large undulations. There is significant elevation change from tee to green on about half the holes. #'s 5, 8, 10, and 12 are the most prominent examples of this. When driving towards the 150 yard marker on the 8th hole, it looks like you are going over the side of a cliff! The course is not overly long, and narrow fairways and subtle doglegs make proper club selection important. Water only comes into play on three holes, all on the GV nine. All in all, Tega Cay is a great golf experience, and I will definitely be back.

Beat expectations

The last time I had played the cove was back in 2012 and I remember a course in poor condition. Well I was pleasantly surprised to play the cove and enjoy my entire round. Yes the fairways were a little brown but that is just what the grass does. But what made up for this was the fantastic condition of the greens. The were quick and looked amazing. Another great addition to this course is the fact that the layout is a little challenging. I believe I shot 4+ and I had to work for every shot. I have just one recommendation, do walk The Cove unless you are willing to walk up some steep cliffs. Overall and great course.

Great Course

If you're in the Fort Mill/Charlotte area Tega Cay's 18 hole course, featuring the Pines and the Grande View is a must play because of the exquisite hole design along with an extremely friendly staff. First, when you arrive at Tega Cay GC you will notice that there is a driving range (easily with 25+ stalls) and a putting green with multiple holes to practice on. But many people overlook the pitching area that lurks next to hole one of The Cove. It is a great area to not only practice your short game but to improve bunker and long ranged pitching. Second, they have the most friendly staff ever. For me, being a member, I interact with them multiple times a week, and I could not think of a better group to run a golf facility. They will guide you if you need help and they are always willing to give a tip or two. Third, how do the courses play. Well I have played the 18-hole course multiple times over the winter and it has played the same each time. The greens are a little slow, but that's expected, and the fairways are superb given the climate of the area. I can't speak for the Cove because I haven't play that course in years and they just opened it up again after introducing a new irrigation system. I will look to put up a review for that course after next weekend because I am looking to play the course twice by then.

Spectacular greens!

Played The Cove's front 9. It was a steal at only $16! The course was in decent shape, but I was very impressed by the consistency and quality of the condition of the greens. Lots of elevation and fun tee shots. I'll return to play the full course.

Course conditions

The course is well maintained and greens played great. GolfNow is the way to go for booking tee times.
Played course numerous times. This day we were confined to cart path only due the the amount of rain in last few days. Slowed up play and took a little longer than normal, the pace of players kept moving and waiting time was nominal (twice for us). Three times we saw deer on the course and once had to run the deer of the fairway to hit. Filmed deer on phone. Just beautiful creatures.
