Holes were either very easy or quite difficult

Simply a great and fun course to play! I wanted to go right back from 18 back to No. 1 and replay it. I was told Coyote Creek is the area’s best course, and I believe it.

I was in the city and made a special trip over. I called and they said they were pretty booked but would squeeze me in. The gentleman eagerly checked me in and could not have been more friendly or helpful!

Four sets of tees and I liked how they just listed approximate handicaps to help you decide what tees to play. The course is interesting with numerous elevation changes. Some tight tee shots and others with mostly simple forced carries (but they could be challenging for beginners). There are a number of drivable par 4s for the longer hitters. But even for shorter hitters, a good tee shot left less than 50 yards a bunch of times. The logo rock formation on hole 11 was disturbing, though!

Tee boxes were good and the fairways were pretty closely mowed with tight lies. However, the greens are recovering from being punched, had sand on them and were baked out. But the green complexes were challenging with a great deal of slope to them.

Not sure the next time I will have the chance to play in the area but would for sure go back. Just hope the greens are back to normal.

A very unique layout

Played while passing through Peoria. The layout was strange....a whopping 12 par 4’s including playing four of them in a row twice. The 3’s and 5’s are all sandwiched together. There was rain the day before and the course was extremely wet/soft.....plays way longer than the scorecard due to all he soft and low lying areas utilized along the creek. For a championship caliber course there are literally 5 drivable par 4’s if conditions are optimal....tons of easy pars on this course. Strangely the short 4’s also tend to be the more open holes. The holes with the most hazards and precision required are all in the ~430 range!!! #’s 2/10/16 are nearly impossible to reach given the wet conditions. A truly perplexing layout. These par 4’s would all be wonderful risk/reward par 5’s if they were to add 40 yards! I would love for them convert to an additional par five and add another par 3.

Conditions were pretty good. Unfortunately it’s not reasonable to walk this course, so it takes a beating from all the riding carts. Bunkers were in very nice shape considering the rain. Very heavy and deep filling of sand, so more penal than most. I would say it’s in better shape than nearby Weaver Ridge, especially the bunkers.

I would definitely give the course a try. You must score well on the pushover holes because there are 3 holes where par is nearly impossible.

Borland’s Treasure

Coyote is one of the best public courses in greater Peoria (if not the best). I’ve played it multiple times this summer and each time the course has been absolutely mint. It toes the line of being frustratingly difficult for mid to high handicappers, but makes up for it with getable holes and exquisite scenery. If you come in with the mindset that you won’t shoot your handicap and pack some extra balls you should have a wonderful day on a pristine course.

Good Value

I play this course, both the 18 hole and Exec many times/year. Usually in good shape; better than expected this year considering the amount of rain we've had. Unusually long rough on some days due to inability to mow.... I wish the tee boxes could leveled on some holes, and (some) less like concrete to put a tee in the ground! On the Exec #6, there (in my opinion) should be a tee box added between the Blue & White tees and the Red & Gold tees. Windshields and either USB ports or 12 v cigarette ligher outlets for charging electronics would. be great additions to the carts. Greens don't seem to be "consistent" re: speed; and too many player don't repair their ball marks. The greens are in good shape, but could be better. .

A MUST play!

If you haven't played Coyote Creek in a while, you're in for a treat. New ownership has succeeded in making Coyote everything the original course designers imagined. It's a challenging but fair layout, and just a BEAUTIFUL course. The fairways are amazing, the greens are matched only by Pine Lakes, and work on the bunkers is nearly complete - making them the best around. Staff is friendly, and the food and drink is super. Give Coyote a shot. You'll no doubt love it!

Not For Beginners

They say you should never judge a book by its cover. Well, you should never judge a golf course by its first hole, either. All confidence gathered from the benign, nearly driveable opening par 4 ends when you first set eyes on the second green. From that point on, you better call on all your skill and smarts to survive. Local knowledge would be very beneficial, but you better be able to execute too. By the time you emerge from the darkness you may bypass the 7th tee box and go directly to the parking lot. Don't give up, though. You get a bit of a break on the driveable par 4 7th and 8th holes. If you think the rough stuff is over at the turn, think again. It's back to scary visuals starting on #10. With few exceptions, every shot has a high degree of difficulty. I would not recommend this course for beginning players because there are a few forced carries that are intimidating even to experienced players. Plus, a shot which is the least bit off line is in danger. Even seemingly safe shots can still be in jeopardy with a bad kick, which I consider unfair course characteristics. That is where local knowledge may or may not help. I think a decent score can be had at Coyote Creek, but you better be absolutely dialed into all aspects of your game to do so. The physical challenges are significant, but the mental challenges will drain you. I was worn out when I walked off #18. Conditions were generally pretty good, especially on the greens, but some details could be improved upon. The bunkers are inconsistent, and some of the fairways appear to be very susceptible to damage in poor weather (#9 particularly). Despite this, I would love to give Coyote Creek another try someday.

Fun, challenging course

I am a beginner level player, but this course is always fun. Fairways are great, greens are great, and staff is always friendly. Food and beverages are always good. Some reachable par 4s you can score on. Front nine is tighter then back 9.overall great course.

Hit em straight and avoid the traps

I love Coyote but end of year play involved aerated greens and bunker maintenance. The course was in great shape, except for the lack of sand in the bunkers.

A must play course for all golfers

Very well designed course for central Illinois! Pace of play is always adequate, course is challenging at times and forgiving at others. Food in the proshop a bit pricey but a better selection then most. Can't beat the value of course you get for the price here at Coyote Creek!

My favorite central Illinois course!

Even after a month of daily rain, Coyote Creek was in extremely good condition. Greens, fairways and tee boxes were immaculate (with a few, understandable soft spots).
I played from the white tees and this made the course a little too short (I hesitate to ever call a course "too easy"). Blue tees might have been a better choice, but they make several holes significantly longer. Black tees would have made several holes unreachable for me...
If you haven't played C.C., give it a try!
