Chisel Creek Golf Club
About
The popularity of Chisel Creek Golf Club in Landenberg can be partly attributed to the fact that it's easily accessible from Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. The natural features of the terrain were incorporated as much as possible, resulting in a layout that is more challenging than the scorecard would lead you to believe. It's seemingly short at just over 6,200 yards but you can expect a variety of elevation changes. The rough can be punishing and there are also numerous strategically placed bunkers as well as a meandering creek that comes into play throughout. Chisel Creek Golf Club's 14th is an especially tough hole that plays uphill and requires navigating your tee shot down a narrow chute. You'll be faced with a few blind shots and a few water holes, including one with an island green.

Scrappy in the Summer Heat
The first time I played this course, it was early in the morning and we we're paired up with another twosome. The course was challenging but manageable, and it left a good impression. I think the only thing I was unhappy with that day was the starter, and he must've been grumpy because it was early.
The Second Time Around I played in the afternoon, and got to play as a twosome. Before my round, I was lucky enough to participate in one of their Clinics. The course has a Pro that offers Putting, Chipping, and Swing Clinics on the first Saturday of every month. I took the Chipping one today. It was informative, and it reiterated some various short game techniques. One thing I learned that I really wasn't taking advantage of was weight distribution during a chip (Put it all up on that front foot, and eliminate the occasional skull). During practice after learning a new technique, the pro was very willing to take a couple minutes with each participant for one on one time, which was appreciated greatly.
My Tee time was shortly after, and for the amount of rain we just had, I was surprised at the conditions. However the Pro shop attendant and Starter we're great! They were extremely friendly, and made my time very enjoyable. As for the course, It may have been a lapse in upkeep during the rain, but I was slightly surprised. The Course didn't play soft at all in the fairways, and the Greens had just been aerated; the end of July... really? This made putting extremely difficult, and I lost all feel for my putter.
Overall I felt that for a course which was in good shape a month ago, it needed some work. The gravel Cart Paths are also a bummer, as the rubber tires on the Carts kick up the stones. My suggestion would be to Hire a road crew to flatten it out with a piece of Heavy Equipment. That would flatten out the surface, and make for a better impression and a smoother ride.
Don't get me wrong, I will still continue to play here. It's a nice course and they provide some great amenities. I wouldn't mind taking another clinic, and I'm determined to break 100 here. The extra putts, really didn't help this last outing.
Just two of us played
A friend and I played Chisel Creek on 8/1 the course was in good shape. The greens were true. The pro shop staff was very helpful as was the cart manager. A very good experience. played in less than 4 hours.
fairways and greens not so good
they had just aerated the Greens. Nice elevation changes.
Good value for the money.
Greens were just aerated but in overall good condition. The fairways were patchy in areas. Very few yardage markers so bring a GPS. Overall a good course for the price but not worth more than $30.

The course was in great shape! Paced was excellent.
Greens were awesome for 7am. Nice variety of holes. Par three's were fun!
Much improved
The course was in much better shape than last year. The tees, fairways and greens were in good shape. Although most holes are not very long the greens are challenging.
On the comeback!
I've played this course quite a bit over the past few years, maybe about once a month. I have to say that the course is currently in the best shape I have ever seen it in. I used to just play because it was inexpensive and not usually too croweded, but now I'm playing because the course is in awesome shape! The greens are among the best I've seen in the area and the fairways are a night and day improvement over years past. They are by no means perfect, but compared to how bad of shape the course used to be in, I am absolutely amazed at the turn-around. The starter who was very friendly, let me know that they recently hired a new superintendent last season. My hat goes off to him. Just a few years ago the course was almost unplayable, now i'd rate it among the best public courses in the area. They are making the right moves and will only get better. I highly recommend this course, always a fun time.
Great experience!!
I've played the course before but this year it seemed to be in great condition. I enjoyed my experience from the moment I pulled in. I was greeted at the bag drop and then was given all the details I needed about changes to the course since my last visit by the starter. Normally, I don't eat at the course after playing but decided to this time and was pleasantly surprised by the menu options. The food was good and the atmosphere was perfect for catching the end of the British Open. Overall, a great experience. I will be returning and highly recommend this course!
Nice course
Booked this course at the last minute for $19 bucks. For the money it was a great deal. This course was in excellent condition and a pleasure to play. Fun layout with elevation changes and hazards to play over and around made it interesting. Only complaint was the yardage on the 9th hole seemed to be wrong. The card had it at 330 yds from the gold tee box and after a good drive the sky caddie had me at 224 to the center. Sounds like a par 5 to me but it was only a par 4. Distance from home would be the only thing to keep me from playing here again.
Tough but fun course
First I am not a good golfer...shoot around 105 consistently and only get out a handful of times per year. That being said I thought this was a challenging course but in a good way. I learn from these types of courses. Some improvements are needed. Several tee boxes are not flat. Instead they have dips and rolling mounds in them. Not many yardage markers around either. Bring a GPS if you have it. This day some of the holes were in tough to ridiculous spots....but again I enjoy that. I don't play well anyway so it can't get much worse! Also, this is a DRY course....no "19th" hole activity going on. If you want to knock a few back with your friends you need to drive somewhere else. Small clubhouse but has what you need. Watch for wet areas including bunkers after rain...my foot sunk into mud past my ankle just off the cart path.
Back from the deak
The course is in much better shape then 2 years ago. The bunkers are still narly being half sand half pebbles. The greens are in great shape. I estimate 11 - 12 on the stimp meter. They do need to educate clients to fix ball marks on greens. I fixed mine plus 3-8 more on almost every green. The course is a little odd in the layout but is a challenge. I will hit it again at least once this year.
Decent course.
It was in the best condition I've ever seen at this course. Would play here again, especially if I can get another great deal! Best time to go is early in the morning.
grate place
the corse was in grate condition the greens were fast
Decent course
This was my first time playing the course. Despite the rough condition of the fairways of the first two holes, the remainder of the course was very nice. The layout of the course is nicely done but felt cramped at times as some of the holes were right on top of each other. Better signs directing where tee boxes are needed and directional poles on a couple of blind shot holes. Having played the course now I would probably play it again.
Nice course
Third time i played this course, and I have enjoyed every round. There are definetly some challenging holes. It is not a bombers course as there are many little streams that run through the course that make you lay-up or bite the bullet and try to carry. Some of the greens are very challenging, especially if the use certain pin placements.
Nice Course
Course is coming back from a few years ago. Starter was very friendly. Made you feel welcome.
Comeback
Happy to see that the course is making a slow comeback. The conditions are much better than the previous years. Credit to the Super. However, wjere is the ranger? One family group shooting multiple shots per hole- playing cart path rules on regular holes. It was ridiculously slow... A hole and a half behind !!
good open course
Would play the course again. ..but course was difficult to find. Would rrecommend to friend's
Enjoyable Course
This course was a nice one for the first of the 2014 season. I when with a a couple of friends and we had a relaxing and fun time. The fairways were excellent and the greens were in nice condition. Probably one of the easier golf courses I been too!
