Staff is awful

Great course but the staff is awful. We played today in the rain. Forked over $105 and made to take a cart “Saturday morning after may 14”. We must have been 1 of 4 foursome out the whole day. We ended up in a tie on 18. Asked if we could continue and break the tie since no one was there. They said yes go off 10. We played 2 holes. And the started came and kicked us off. Said people were making the turn. We drove back and drove past zero people. He said we were ignorant for nothing calling every hole to say we were still tied.

Beautiful course

Course was in FANTASTIC shape given the fall season and New England. Price is a little high but you get what you pay for, therefore the price is very fair.

Greens Problem

Love this layout for the variety of holes and overall playability The greens are in poor condition compared to the rest of the courses I have played this year in the area Many ball marks which haven’t been repaired It seems that they didn’t aerate them enough to restore the playability Not going back this year because of the greens It seems that there is no one in charge at the course to even talk to about the situation Overall seems like management is MIA

Grounds Crew Constantly Around. Aggrevating!

I like this course I really do. However a constant problem is every time I play the grounds crew is always around you, cutting the green aprons while you’re putting, or leaf blowing the sand traps, etc. Today was especially frustrating, no joke they were a distraction on 15 of 18 holes. Not the workers fault but the course superintendent really needs to figure this out, because it’s $88 to play on a Friday and for that price you shouldn’t be dealing with these type of distractions. Not to mention the greens were in less than fair shape. Hope somebody from the course management will read this and take action because I really want to love Butter Brook!

Great Layout, Poor Green Conditions

Have been playing here a bunch last few years. Great layout and walkable course. Love the mix of par 3s and 5s, and the change from the front to the back.

My main issue is that the greens have been getting progressively worse through the last few months, to the point that the greens are not acceptable for this level of course. The fairways and rough are great. But the greens have been really beat up, and have been playing unbearably slow recently. If the course is reading this, please have the greens play at a pace that the price of this course justifies.

Good layout but...

This course is layed out fine with several par 3’s that are almost all challenging. You can’t miss the greens on most holes or you end up in jail. The greens themselves and the tee boxes on the threes and short par fours where folks would hit irons were pretty beat up. Fairways were in good shape as rough was thick. I can’t believe that we played in a tournament that took over five hours and we say the cart girl one time. That’s fun in 90 degree weather.

Lovely but demanding

Butter Brook is typically kept in lovely condition, and today was no exception. The fairways are in very good shape and the greens were very nice. Often the fairways adjacent to the green were also quite tight, allowing us to use putters off the green, not always true on public courses in New England.

The front nine is tighter than the back nine. Many holes are akin to target golf--not a lot of margin for error on many holes, and twisting, narrow fairways on the front nine with a few more wider ones on the back. Finishes with two demanding holes. Interesting, testing course.

Compares well to area peers

Butter Brook delivers a lot of value, especially compared to it's pricier neighbors like Shaker Hills and Red Tail.

The staff is very professional, though make sure you get there early, the rangers like everyone to start on time and keep it moving.

It's a good bridge between a regular muni type and an upscale course, affordable, but they do what they can to make it close to a more upscale experience.

Front nine is typical New England, tight and relatively short. Back nine is like jumping to the Carolina's, with wide open fairways and sandy waste areas.

Great Regular Play

Great course. Good variety of holes between the front and back nines. I try to play there at least once a week. Everyone there goes out of their way to make it a great experience every time. They work hard at keeping the conditions great.

They Truly Get It Here

Butter Brook in it's short history has made a point of doing things right and providing a great golf experience. The layout is very good and makes great use off the natural terrain, tree lines and old structures. My only complaint would be how squeezed in the first 4 holes are. Perhaps they were a little short on space and had to do it that way. Once through that, its all much better ahead, especially on the back 9. The 9th is a colossal 3 shot par 5, that is 600+ from the tips. A twisting hole that has water on the right is a real thrill ride. The 13th is a drivable par 4, where you hit it over the corner of the old pig barn. An iron takes the cavernous fairway bunker out of play and leaves you a wedge into a treacherous green. The 18th is a weak finishing hole, but the hazard down the left and at the green is a bit of an equalizer. They are still working out of a trailer, albeit a very nice one, so their amenities are limited. The Kennedy family has done a great job with their old farm and Butter Brook exudes the pride they have in it. This course is a superlative choice in Western Middlesex County which has several long standing, superb public courses. I think this one will stand for a long time as well.

Nice average course layout on great condition

This course is an average, typical New England layout with elevation changes and blind shots. The course was in great shape when we played it. The pro shop is nothing to write home about but they have the essentials
