36 holes are packed too close, you've gotta be careful not to be hit.
1. Course layout of 36 holes is too tight. In many holes you've gotta pay good attention to the balls played in neighboring holes.
2. Fairway grass is not maintained well.
Nice course for the price.
Pace of play was a bit slow, and it was a little confusing with the two courses so close together. Many balls from other tee boxes landed in our fairways.
It is a OK course
It is a fun course with some tough greens. The pavement on cart path need a lot of repair.
Very Odd Golf Course
Decided to play here because all other local full 18-hole courses were booked. Got a good deal on GolfNow, but it really wasn't worth it. Course conditions were very dodgy. Fairways had many bare spots. Greens were a combination of very hard and very spongy. But my biggest complaint was the course design. There were several holes which literally made no sense at all. Tree and mounds in front of greens such that you weren't even sure it was where you should be hitting (Hole #10). Fairways with hazards on both sides that are mounded such that balls do not stay on, even when drives land in the middle. It was my first time at the course, and I would avoid it at all costs. One of the people we played with claimed the other (Palm) course was better, but I doubt I'd chance it.
Wide open - Small, slopey, fast greens
Palm Course: I arrived early to hit some balls only to learn that the driving range was on the other side of the freeway and I would have to get back into my car to get there - inconvenience. I chose to chip and putt instead.
The course was long but wide open...you could pretty much hit it anywhere off the tee. However, the challenge was the postage stamp greens. I think nearly every green was tiered, or had severe back to front slope. And they were quite fast as well. My only complaint would have to be the cutting of the cups. I swear, on every hole the cup was overgrown. Tough enough putting on fast slopey greens, but to have an overgrown cup on top made the round less enjoyable. It really looked like they had cut the holes 2 days before, and drenched the greens with water. By the time we played each cup had shrunk at least a half an inch in diameter.
Other than that the course was pretty average. Some burned out spots, some overwatered fairways (mud balls in the middle of summer!) - all together average. I would rate it higher if we had gotten a discounted price, but for $57 (the regular weekend rate), it was only so-so.
Good condition
Played the course in less than 4 hours, bonus ! 16th and 17th hole driivable par 4s, greens were in good condition, lots of fun!
Long but forgiving
Pretty much had the course to myself since it was a Monday PM tee time. Course is on the long side but forgiving with wide open fairways - great for hitting your driver. Great deal on GolfNow with cart. Will definitely play again.
Needs work
The course needs work, and the folks at the pro shop are so
cool (not) that they think they're at Augusta.
Interesting design for the money
The Palm course has some interesting design features and harkens back to a day when perhaps the owner spent more money on maintaining the course and carts. It would be great if they could somehow get some funds to improve the course and carts a bit.
Over priced for a decidely below average course.
RIght on busy Highway 680, Sunol is a noisy, crowded course with slow play and a very blue collar feel. The golf carts are noisy, stinky gas powered junkers that lurch and buck. If you get behind a 4 or 5 group on a weekend getaway you may as well bring a good book to while away the hours.
The greens fee is way out of line for such an average course. The staff could barely look up to take my money when I checked in.
The pace was so slow that I ended up skipping the last few holes and bugging out.
I doubt I will return.
Fun, Relatively Easy, Well Priced
It's a 36 hole complex, we played Cyprus, which we heard was considered the less challenging of the two. The course is very fun, the greens and fairways were moderately well kept and the value was good.
You can spray your driver and still easily recover. The par 5s are short and are reachable in two for players with above average distance and the par 3s are short as well. The greens are soft and slow but roll true and scoring is relatively easy.
I'd say the price is right on par with the track and thus a really good value. If you're looking for a fun time and a confidence booster, this is a good course for you.
course in poor condition with lots of weeds and dirt; green is hard as rock
This was the worst course I have every played. Golfers wear inappropriate attires - jeans and shirt not tucked in. I won't go there ever again even if it is free.
Sunol Valley GC is great shape!
Well maintained. Greens are in excellent shape. Windy as usual so get out early in the morning.
Good courses
They need the course snack bars open or at the very least the beverage cart needs to run the course. Nothing open during the 4th of July.
Green held shots. Were very soft but that was an issue as well due to foot prints
Course was very dry and and several areas should be marked GIR in my opinion.
Hit a very good shot only to land in a bad area is not rewarding.
Food was very reasonabe and prepared fast and was delicious.
Nice course, no driving range
Sunol Valley - Palm was in good condition the day we played. Par 3's are pretty long, make sure you're comfortable with your long irons before playing here. No driving range to warm up on, but apparently there is a small range across the highway at a gas station. Pace of play was very slow (5 hours for a 9am tee time).
once every few years kind of course
I live maybe 15 mins from this course, yet i almost never play it. I often find that the course could be in better condition and would rather drive a few extra mins and get to a more manicured course.
I was told by the starter today that the greens were in great shape, but i often saw my ball bouncing along with inconsistent green speeds.
For the money its not a complete loss, but for skilled players i just cant recommend coming here for any reason with a straight face.
overall golf course is good
The greens are excellent and well maintain, fairways are average. Staff are friendly.
Course was normal for a weekend, just a slow foursome in front of us
Overall a good day of golf with weather being somewhat windy but that is normal for this course.
needs some repair work on some of the green edges
nice course, great people. some rough edges around a few of the greens
