Situated just about an hour northwest of Edmonton, many locals consider Barrhead Golf Club to be a must-play course in central Alberta. It has even been included in Golf Digest's list of "Best Places to Play." Though many would argue that the course alone is well worth the drive, it is conveniently located near camping stalls if you want to make it an extended stay. Though the Les Furber-designed course is relative short at only 6,650 yards from the back tees, he managed to make the layout feel spacious. Furber incorporated a number of water hazards and strategically placed bunkers to provide a challenging test. In addition to the golf course, Barrhead also offers a driving range and practice green.

Barrhead Golf Club

I had golfed here for the first time in early October of last year, so when the Alberta Golf Tour chose this course for one of their 2019 tournaments it didn't take me to long to add this venue into my summer tournament schedule.

A solid Les Furber track that winds it's way through heavy spruce and poplar stands for 13 holes before the course opens up and provides golfers a little more breathing room. Routing poses interesting challenges on many holes and places a premium on accurate shot making, particularly on approaches into the greens. Water can come into play on only a few holes but it's the bunkering around the greens that will grab your attention. Once on the expansive greens you are met with the challenge of two putting. Birdies are there for the taking.

Stretching to a reasonable 6600 yards, an even mix of left and right doglegs, smart bunkering, slight changes in elevation and true running greens provide an outstanding experience. In addition to a challenging golf course, a full service restaurant, well stocked pro shop, practice green and driving range make Barrhead a worthy destination.

Barrhead Golf Club

This is a little gem of a course. The weather was absolutely perfect, blue skies and the course in excellent condition. A short dogleg left Par 5 to open up the round followed by a succession of challenging holes. A nice parkland setting with water hazards, tree lined fairways, carpet like greens and good bunkering will provide golfers with an eventful round. Holes 16 and 17 run alongside the runway of the Barrhead Airport. Throw the sticks in the plane and make a day of it.

Well manicured; Tee boxes as good as many course greens.

Very enjoyable.
Every hole is unique and offers challenges. Very different experience form blue to white tees.
Subtle breaks in greens make a par a good score.
Holes 4 to 6 are the Amen Corner of this course with water, wind and trees coming into play.
I wish the pond was a factor from the whites on #9.
The course opens up the last 4 holes but the wind makes this a challenging finish.
Great rates. Bring a group for 2 dyas and enjoy the campground experience. But book ahead!

Loved it

The fairways and greens are in excellent shape, everything is well maintained. This is a great track with something for everyone. One of our favourites. Ran a little slow for the last 9 holes but it was a beautiful day so we just enjoyed the outing.

Great course

Great golf course
Very disappointed that they wouldn't honor a free cart coupon we had as they indicated that it couldn't be combined with any other discount and they viewed Golf Now as a discount. In the end with a cart we ended up paying more by booking with Golf Now.
The fact that we booked with Golf Now should NOT have affected the "free cart with 2 green fees coupon.................this was very disappointing.

Great course for the price

Played this course on a Sunday afternoon with the wife for $44.00. Course was in good shape even thought they had a lot of rain overnight and in the early morning. Some standing water in the fairways and traps.
Fairways are wide and provide plenty of room to spray the ball around( if needed). Greens were in good shape for a Sunday afternoon although there were a lot of donkeys not repairing ball marks.
This is an enjoyable course for golfers of all levels will make the trip up to Barrhead again.

great challenge for the brain

This was a very nice course to play, enjoyed the food in the club house. We were behind a tournament and play was super slow, took nearly 6 hrs. To play 18 holes, never had a chance for the 19th hole to late in the day.
