Carstairs Community Golf Club

The clubhouse is of considerable size and is home to the pro shop, administrative offices and the Ironwood Restaurant. Check in with the pro shop was straight forward.

This traditional parkland style course has been in operation since 1960. There are four tee boxes to play from on each hole but the scorecard provides golfers the option to play a mix of tee box combinations. Yardages can vary from as short as 4,240 yards from the forward tees and up to 6,510 yards from the tips. Tee boxes were relatively flat and are of a good size. The fairways are lined with a variety of mature trees, cedar, ash, pine and poplar. The fairways are generous in width and were playing very firm. Most par 4's require accuracy off the tee, and offer a good mix of mid to long irons on approach shots. Conditioning of the tee boxes and fairways was leaning towards the scruffy side. It has the usual hazards in place which include four good size water hazards and around 49 bunkers which are strategically placed throughout the course. Most greens were complimented nicely with groomed bunkers guarding the approaches and the greens did have a nice mix of shapes and sizes. For whatever reason the greens seemed to be inconsistent in regards to both speed and pace.

The course has no real elevation changes to speak of and would be an enjoyable to walk. Green fees are reasonable.

don't waste your time or money

Did 18 holes on 9/24 with my son. We were paired with 2 members. The course is a disgrace. i read a review about how its gone downhill since the town bought it and sure enough the course is in horrible condition. The fairways are barren of grass and rock hard and there are a lot of weeds. The grass is almost non existent. I mentioned this to the members and they said they have been complaining it but its on deaf ears. The town does not care. The driving range is a joke. The hitting matts are unprofessional round discs with artificial grass bolted to wood and no tees. Nobody uses the mats. They hit off the grass, but calling it grass is a stretch. And the yardage markers and like cardboard signs. The driving range is a farm field. This course is amateur hour. If the town keeps it up this won't be recognized as a golf course in a few years. And $60 weekend green fees is way over priced. And don't be fooled by the pictures on the website. The course looks nothing like the pictures now.

better condition than last year

The course conditions were much improved from the times I played here over the last couple of years. Lack of staff showed with no range balls, halfway house closed but they did have a beverage cart on the course. Still good value at $36.00

Felt like sardines.

Typically get out here a couple times a year. At over 4.5 hrs for the round, and recall similar last time, we won’t be going back. Waiting on every single tee box is just wrong. It wasn’t the group ahead of us, or those ahead of them. Everyone was waiting. They just oversold the course. Staff is fine, nothing special. No Marshall.

Carstaris Comminuty Golf Course

‘Carstairs Community Golf Course is a Prairie gem’. It is located about 45 minutes north of downtown Calgary. About 30minutes north of Calgary international airport. The layout is forgiving with wide fairways and trimmed rough. Don’t let that fool you into complacency. Lots of trouble can be found tee to green on pretty much every hole. The greens are noted to be some of the best in the province. It’s a great looking and playing course. 18 ‘championship holes’, par 72; featuring water hazards, sand traps and wonderful landscape.
It is easy to get on and play during the week. The course has a driving range, chipping area and practice green. The Pro Shop has all the latest fashions, equipment; with club rental, power carts and lessons can be booked.
There is a fully licensed dining room - coffee shop. Snack bar at the 10th hole. Amazing, friendly staff.
