The Canal at Delacour Golf Course

The Alberta Golf Association (AGA) had scheduled their inaugural two-day Super Seniors Golf Tournament for The Track GC in Langdon, but due to poor course conditions at The Track, The Canal at Delacour stepped up and offered their venue. Great choice.

Since opening for play in 2005, the course has steadily earned complimentary reviews. Designed by Harold Pasechnik and fashioned in the style of links golf, the course provides a varied and enjoyable challenge, which golfers of all abilities will find rewarding. There is a driving range and practice green on site. There are five tee box markers on each hole which caters for every level of golfer. The rolling landscape tumbles along nicely and the holes follow each other seamlessly. Wide, fescue lined fairways are interrupted by strategically positioned, deep and at times, cavernous bunkers. Water hazards and irrigation ponds are present and could be detrimental should you be one of those golfers that is directionally challenged. There are but a few patches of trees and shrubs on the course, which for the most part won't provide much in the way of protection from the elements. If the wind picks up, you will need to adjust your game accordingly. Elevation changes on the course are not significant which bodes well for those golfers who choose to walk.

The greens are massive in size and the vast majority of them possess some seriously treacherous undulations and tiers which will not only test your nerve but your chipping and putting skills are going to be pushed to their limit. Placement of the many greenside bunkers are there to devour any wayward approach shots. The greens have been renowned for their speed and true to their reputation, they were rolling fast and true. Needless to say, some of the tournament participants had comments that could be described as colourful.

After two days of play, I think the AGA's organizers were pleased with how well the golf course presented for the tournament and the feedback they received by the participants was positive. Hats off to The Canal at Delacour.

Some of the best greens around

Great links golf course with smooth fast greens . Our group walked 18 holes in the early am. Fescue is long . Bunkers are magnificent. False fronts are tricky. Overall a well designed course. You will require every club in your bag..
If the weather moves in there is not many spots for cover. Not a lot of elevation change , but a true links golf experience.

ABSOLUTE BEAUTY!

I was so pleasantly surprised by this course design...........and the course conditions were spectacular. This is by far the best links design in the greater Calgary area no question!

The greens are full of undulation and the site lines from the tee decks are fantastic........despite the fact there isn’t one tree on the golf course!

It is a true links style set up and if they ever decided to get this track into tournament condition and grow the fescue and rough..........it would be a very serious test!!! LOVE IT

The cooks in the kitchen are phenomenal. Nothing too fancy on the menu but man do they know how to cook.

I will definitely be back multiple times per year!

Country Gem

The Canals at Delacour is a track that will keep a player challenged round after round. The multiple tee sets can lengthen this links style course to suit all abilities. With long fescue waiting for any stray drives means thst accuracy is high on the priority list. The greens always seem to be rolling true and fast and are very well maintained.

There is a grass range and a large practice green. The clubhouse and pro shop are not anything special but provide the basics.
I return for a few rounds year after year and I am never disappointed.

Great course

A very challenging course from the tips. Multiple tee boxes make it fun for all golfers. The greens have multiple levels and make putting a lot of fun. It is a links style of course out in the country with no houses or development nearby.

The Canal at Delacour

First introduction to this course was during a tournament. Great surprise as The Canal at Delacour is a terrific course for any occasion. On offer are fescue lined fairways , 74 bunkers & water hazards on as many as 12 holes. Scoring well is possible as The Canal is home to some of the nicest rolling greens in the Calgary region. Holes 17 & 18 are strong finishing holes to round out your game.

Good Links Challenge

This is my third time on this course over the years and although I don't come often I do always enjoy the place. It is a traditional links course with some long rough and a few water hazards. If you can keep it in the fairway you can score well, go in the rough and you've done well with a double.
The course can be expensive on the weekend but its location and comparison to other courses just east of Calgary its worth the rate.

Great links course

Fairway and green are in excellent shape. Greens are large with many undulations. Penal rough off fairways. Fun to play.
