Derrick Golf & Winter Club

The Derrick Golf & Winter Club was the venue chosen to host this years 2019 Alberta Seniors Championship. A stroke play tournament over 3 days would decide this years champion.

Designed by Les Furber in 1959 but upgraded in 2013 & 2015. Course yardage ranges from 5219 to 6569 yards making this course attractive to any and all skill levels. This is a parkland style, 18 hole, par-70 course. The superior course conditioning and meticulous grooming was evident right from the start. Amenities include a driving range, practice putting greens and short game area to improve your game.

The outward 9 appears on the card to provide golfers with better scoring opportunities than the inward 9. Well, that's not the case as scoring well is challenging anytime if your swing isn't dialed in. Bunkers are seemingly placed in all the right areas and will attract even the slightest mishit. Greens were very firm and weren't holding what I thought were great approach shots as I found my ball either rolling through or off the sides of many of them. The sloping greens were rolling as fast as lightning and required some patience to find the right lines and pace.

This course demands disciplined course management, accurate shots from the tees and fairways and considerable skill on the greens to score well.
