Mediocre Course
We played in mid August when most courses are in excellent condition. Most greens are very hard and do not hold well. Bunkers around the green are excellent. Fairways again are somewhat hard and rarely is there any grass under the ball. Tee boxes are in good condition however some are not flat. We played the blue/white combo and it is very poorly laid out making for some very short par fours and then some very long par fours that are not reachable in two. Not sure why they have chosen this combo but it is ridiculous to say the least.
The service and food is very good and reasonably priced.
One of the best designs around
Few courses can rival the Edmonton Petroleum Club in terms of design. The only other one in the Edmonton area would be the Northern Bear. This is a great walking course with enough contour to make things interesting and scenic. Although a private course, if you can get into a tournament or know a member, this is a must play in Edmonton. Excellent practice facilities, good food, friendly staff and all of the amenities that you would expect of a high end public course. Course conditions are excellent in 2016. Pace of play is always excellent based on relatively low numbers of members; plus it is a private course with people who know how to play and are conscious of golf etiquette. Definitely one of the top courses in Edmonton if not THE top.
Edmonton Petroleum G&CC
The Golf Channel Am Tour held a tournament here so it's always nice to take in a round at a private course.
It's got everything a private club would be expected to have, good practice facilities, full clubhouse amenities & accommodating staff.
The course offers large flat tee boxes, well manicured rolling fairways, strategic bunkering both greenside and fairways, large undulating greens & a few elevation changes thrown in. And just to keep things interesting, there are enough water hazards to either elevate your game to a new level or lower it.
Should an opportunity come up for you to play the Edmonton Petroleum G&CC, don't hesitate.
