Banyan Cay Resort & Golf
About
Originally opened as the Eagle Course at President Country Club, Banyan Cay Resort & Golf was renovated by Nicklaus design in 2017. The fairways are lined with coquina and pampas grass and there are also water hazards and sand bunkers coming into play throughout. The layout offers interesting par 3s that offer particularly nice scenery and a mix of par 4s that range from having ample room to being very tight and requiring more careful course management. The golf course opens with a risk-reward opportunity, a dogleg-right par 5 with a strategically placed lake.

Seen Better Days
I've played this course probably 8 times in the past 3 years. Unfortunately it has gone down hill. It has a challenging and visually interesting layout and is centrally located in West Palm, which I think keeps people coming back, but the failure of the Patriot course, the lagging construction on the clubhouse, and the diminished quality of the greens are discouraging signs.
I like to give credit where it is due. The driving range, fairways, bunkers, and rough were all in fine shape. Unfortunately, the quality of the greens was mediocre at best. The speed was average and putts were bumpy. I usually fixed around 5 divots before every putt -- and those were just the ones that were in my line. The green on #12 is particularly bad, consisting of as much sand as grass. You can't charge $90/round and have greens that bad. I don't care if it is Florida peak season. If I wanted to play on slow greens, I'd rather go to Atlantic National where at least they roll true and the price is only $50-$60.
The course still has a lot of potential with the great layout and all, but they really need to improve the greens, and they should drop the price until the greens get better.
very nice course
I played the course several times in February 2015 and again 2/20/16. price has gone up under new ownership. still a good course, in good shape, but not a particular bargain @$85 plus taxes and fees.
Good course
Greens were in ok shape. Lots of water and a few lost balls. Was not crowded on a Fri and pace of play was good. Good driving range. Gps on cart was helpful. Price was ok.
Not worth it.
This course is fair at best. The range, pretty good. Fairways are not bad. Some greens are in decent shape and others are poor. Overall the place is pretty run down. Zero amenities. Plays more like a $30 muni. Not worth the $90 green fees IMO. My advise, play elsewhere.
Mixed Opinions
The course reduces prices at 2pm from $85 to $54. I booked a 2pm time and arrived early to hit balls. Greeted by a friendly starter and directed to temporary pro-shop (lots of construction). Proshop staff was friendly but not warm. Paid $7 for a small bucket of 40+/- balls. Nice grass range with plenty of targets. Left range with 15 balls remaining. Starter asked if I wanted to tee off alone to beat a group of 10 that would be teeing off shortly- THANK YOU. Joined a lovely couple from Missouri on the 1st green. They had played before and it would keep us from playing too fast. The play was continuous but not slow- very nice. The fairways were good/very good. The bunkers (we all go there at some point) seem to be concrete with a light top dressing of thin sand. Absolutely HORRID. No greenside explosion shot of sand stopping near the cup here. Try chipping or putting out of these traps. The greens appear spotty BUT play very fast and true- Absolutely wonderful. On the turn I purchased a $5.50 hotdog that lasted (burp) to the 18th hole- very pricey. My thoughts are this- $85 during peak time- pretty pricey. $54 after 2pm- much more in line. The course is above average in play minus the bunkers. Water, bunkers, forced carry to test your game. GPS equipped carts are a blessing and a curse. When you get near a restricted area- i.e. greens or whatever? (not marked) the carts tells you and proceeds to shut you to a crawl till you exit. Sometimes the warnings come as your driving on the cart path. I would definately play again but after season when the prices should be adjusted down. It will be a nice time whenever you play here. Not for the frugal golfer though.
Banyan Cay is OK
Very playable course. Lots of construction going at the clubhouse.
Great lay out alot of fun
Great Lay out a lot of fun will play again, could be a little less expensive.
Over Rated for the high Price
This is a 40 years plus venue, the course itself nicely laid out, but thats it. I know they are tearing down the Old President Country Club, it needed it, The Pro in the shop acted as if I was not worth the trouble etc. Zero personality, Maybe he is beating down from all the Snow Birds every year etc. from the North East.
No lunch or snacks available etc.
They had just sanded the greens, wish they would have said this when I reserved the tee time, Golf Now needs to work on this and inform members somehow of this as well better in the future.
No sand in the bunkers either (Bad) , yes I know I do not need to be in there etc.
Love the ease of Golf Now.
A must play
We enjoyed the course. Once they complete the construction it will be a first rate place to play.
Not good value
great course, well designed. Bunkers need work, half of them had barely any sand so had to putt out.
Pro shop charges $5.50 for hotdog and $7 for a small bucket of practice balls (20)
Really nice layout
Great course a must play. The layout was slightly challenging but excellent. Was 20mph gusts was playable & would love to play again.
Beautiful course
Course was beautiful amenities were nice enjoy the day pace of play not so good. I would enjoy playing the course again at a different time of day.
Accommodating at Banyan
From staff to pro shop to cart girls, everyone made us feel like members immediately.
Course was great and played in less than 3 1/2 hours.
Nice course
Banyan Cay is the old Presidents CC. Presidents CC used to be an old money, primarily Jewish "snowbird" country club. A short while back the club went under as the membership aged on. The new owners have closed 18 of the 36 holes and dumped some money into the remaining 18 "Eagle Course". The plans are to build out a 5 star hotel / resort and some add'l real estate on the land from the closed 18.
The existing course is actually pretty darn nice and the owners have made it very nice. There is quite a bit of water but the course is still very playable. The fairways, greens and tee boxes are in very nice shape.
In talking with the staff, it looks like they are going to spend even more money on the course in the near future. The existing Robert Trent Jones Jr design is solid. The guys In the shop mentioned Greg Norman coming in to tweak the course.. Once the resort and hotel opens in a year or two, the price point will probably go up a bit and tee times will be primarily allocated to resort / hotel guests....
I think it's a very nice resort course and is worth playing. Conditions are much nicer than other public courses in area.
Friendly staff
There were in process of renovations, however the staff was very frendly, nice grass range to practice. Pace of play was on par.
Great Hidden Gem
Played for the 1st time and always heard it was an excellent course. It's worth the drive and the conditions were perfect. I enjoyed the payout and played the back tees and had a nice challenge. When the wind blows, this place can be a real roller coaster. You are rewarded for well-hit shots here.
Improved their standards
The course was in much better condition then the last time I played it. It was a windy day (even more then normal for this course) that made it even more difficult to reach greens. Throughly enjoyed playing. Wish there was some type of a grill/bar to visit after the round.
Beautiful Challenging Track
This golf course has recently undergone some nice improvements since the introduction of new ownership. The fairways, greens are in top condition. I was very pleased with the friendly staff and their assistance. Looking forward to the new build of the clubhouse.
