Pine Hills GC
My second stop on the "Cowboy Trail" was Pine Hills GC, a course I last golfed probably 22 years ago.
The opening hole, a 485 yard, Par 5, double dogleg with an elevated green set into a copse of trees. Getting there can be an adventure as the first fairway is a roller coaster of hills and slopes and an unlucky bounce will kick you into the rough. The course has some dramatic tee shots overlooking wide fairways, natural hazards, strategic bunkering, doglegs left and right, manageable rough and some very testing greens.
There are a great variety of good holes cut through the forest that surrounds Pine Hills. Hole 18, a 377 yard, Par 4 is a demanding closing hole. A sharp dogleg right that plays into an elevated green and will claim its fair share of disasters.
The pro shop is well stocked and the clubhouse is impressive. Great venue.

Great course
One of my favorites! Hidden gem
Hidden gem
Great experience course in exceptional shape
Off the beaten track gem
Great fun course. A challenge for any level of golfer.
Excellent greens, fairways and bunkers
The course featured excellent greens, well groomed bunkers and lush fairways.
Awesome course and staff
Very friendly pro shop staff. Excellent cart service, came around every four holes. Course is always fantastic. Thanks so much.
very scenic - every hole feels like you're alone on the course
Lovely setting - good condition
Greens are a nice speed - a little quick
Holes (on green) were freshly cut with clean edges
Sand looks great- bunkers well trimmed on edges ( I didn't get to try them)
A little breezy but it didn't seem to be much of a factor with the enclosed fairways
Overall an excellent golf experience
Would come back to play and would recommend to anyone
One of my favourites in west central AB
Greens and fairways in very good shape. Very pleasant weather combined with good pace of play made for a good golf day!
Forest delight
Cut out of the forest and laid out on hilly terrain, Pine Hills offers a great variety of holes, many of them very secluded and supremely peaceful. Several of the holes are truly memorable. Because of a few blind shots and deceptive slopes and elevation changes, expect to have to play the course a couple of times before you begin to shoot as low as you are capable of. This fine course is probably under-rated because it is really out of the way for most people.
A hidden gem in the gateway to the Rockies
A great layout that makes the round fun but challenges you to make some good shots. With five sets of tees and great course management this track has everything for every golfer. It has some elevation changes but is not too hard to walk if you feel like the exercise.
The design of the course suits many types of golfers and keeps things honest with little subtleties like bunker placement and fairway width.
Nestled in the middle of forest there can be bugs but also quiet. It is a serene setting that gives golfers zen feeling during your round.
The drive west is well worth the trip.
fast green
The course was in excellent condition, bunkers are beautiful, green were lightning fast. Some pin positions to severe for speed of greens. Excellent value and friendly staff.
Hidden Gem...Memorable Holes
A really fine course off the beaten track. The small town of Rocky Mountain House deserves credit for being home to this course and supporting it well over the many years it has been in operation.
Elevation changes, rolling fairways, scenic and unique holes typify this course. The large well-kept greens are pleasure to putt. Most are relatively flat, though there are some dramatic exceptions. Many holes are cut through forest so that one can neither see nor hear players on other holes. Very peaceful and relaxing.
Seclusion
The course is in beautiful and it gives you a sense of seclusion and serenity. Trees all around and may see occasional wildlife.
Excellant
Greens and fairways are just excellant. Golf course is the best value for the money in Alberta
Well worth the drive
This course is first class right from the layout, course conditions to the facility and staff. No disappointments. will definitely come again.
Great Course, Great Conditions, Great value
Booked online with Golfnow and got a great deal in mid afternoon. Pace of play was excellent and the course is in perfect condition. No issues at all with the booking and the staff were very friendly. First class clubhouse and patio. Definitely come again.
Really nice surprise
Heard threat the course was nice but it exceeded all my expectations.
