Since opening in 2003, Blackhawk Golf Club has quickly garnered a strong reputation amongst both locals and visitors. Alberta's own Rod Whitman designed the golf course. The riverside layout begins by sweeping upward onto a plateau before tumbling down into the river valley through forests of white poplar and pine. Although at 6,835 yards it is not long by modern championship standards, it is a course that requires careful thought and strategy. There is a lot of variety in the greens. Most feature bold contouring that dips and dives along the rumpled prairie landscape and there are some with steep fronts and swells while others are canted to one side.

Definitely one of Canada's best

I was lucky enough to have been invited to play at this course, being that it's a members only club. It's a fairly new course, and as with all modern courses, it has plenty of length, and it is very challenging. You can tell that the owner of this beautiful course did not spare a single dime, from the course itself, to the facilities, to the golf carts, to the gorgeous clubhouse. All the holes are super pretty, especially the ones that border the north saskatchewan river. The greens are super fast and smooth bent grass. If you're like me and get lucky enough to be invited to play here, do not hesitate to accept the invitation, you won't regret.

Tough front, tougher back

Nothing like a blind tee shot on the 1st hole to welcome you to the course. Fun to play, very scenic. Probably one of the more "refined" courses in the Edmonton area. Dress codes rule, even if you're not there to play golf. You won't see a lot of inexpensive or rusty vehicles in the parking lot.

Immaculate fairways and greens!

A well laid out course with some very creative holes. The back 9 will challenge even the most seasoned golfer. The driving range provides both artificial and real turf for pre-game warm up. There is also a 3 hole, short-game, practise area which is maintained to the same high-standard as the main course. I can't wait to golf here again!
