Wainwright Golf and Country Club
About
Wainwright Golf Club is a two-hour drive from Edmonton and it sits just one hour from Lloydminster. The course has a traditional layout featuring a mix of tree-lined and links holes that offer plenty of variety. With narrow fairways lined with deciduous trees and small, tricky green, it's a golf course that demands accuracy. Straight shots will be generously rewarded and there is thick rough waiting to penalize errant shots. The original front nine is tighter than the back nine and there are more trees framing most of the holes. Though the back nine is more open, it's not any less challenging. In addition to the course, Wainwright Golf Club also has a practice facility with a driving range that extends more than 250 yards with several different targets and also a large putting green.

What we expected
My son and I were meeting halfway between Saskatoon and Edmonton. This course fit the bill perfectly. It was in pretty good shape with all the rain we had this summer. Even though there were lots of people golfing, the pace was fast. Lots of doglegs on the back nine. The bunkers were wet but playable. Greens were fairly fast considering we got a rain shower. A few creeks and ponds running across the fairways. Grass driving range. It was a fun small town course.
Nothing special
Save your money and go to Edgerton instead. The course was very dry and the greens were in terrible condition.
Review
Overall, I enjoyed my round. The conditions were generally good for this time of year. Greens played fast. Course needs a good watering. I will be back
Terrible condition
This is the first time I've played this year. I've never seen the course in such terrible shape. The course looks very unkept.
Great round
The course is coming around nicely due to the very dry weather still some dry spots but after having the greens aerated they're coming nice course plays well
Terrible greens
The course was challenging but almost every green is chewed up. Really bad for putting! You would think the 18th green in front of the clubhouse would be better maintained...The grounds keepers didn't seem to care that we were hitting onto a green they were working on and stood on the green as we waited. Sprinklers going on multiple tee boxes made driving very difficult. It was a bit of a gong show!
BEAUTIFUL AND CHALLENGING
FRONT NINE IS MORE OPEN. SOME WATER HAZARDS AND A FAIR AMOUNT OF SAND TRAPS. BACK NINE HAS MORE TREES AND NARROWER , DRIVES HAVE TO BE A LITTLE MORE ACCURATE. FUN TO GOLF AND ENJOYABLE SCENERY. WE DID 18 HOLES THERE, 2 DAYS IN A ROW. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS COURSE. STAFF IS GREAT, FOOD AND BEVERAGES IS GOOD.
A few things needed
very very few 50 yard markers and 200 yard markers and I really missed having them
also the sand traps were all hard and stones on top this could be due to a hard rain 2 days prior
Enjoyable outing.
Good value through Golfnow. Typical Canadian course price wise. Course could use more water. Back nine is mature and more fun to play. We were not pressed for play as in not overbooked. Overall a good day out . Will definitely play here again.
Good value for your money
First round of the season and it was not bad. Greens a little slow but that is to be expected at this time of year in Alberta.
