Balfour Golf Club
About
Balfour Golf Club is laid across a stretch of grassy meadows and rolling hills that sit right along the shores of Kootenay Lake. Perched atop a plateau above the Balfour Ferry Landing, the course tumbles through the Purcell Mountains, providing a rugged terrain with plenty of interesting elevation changes. The golf course winds through dense forests of pine, birch, and Douglas fir trees. The nine-hole layout boasts beautifully sculpted fairways that are wide and lined with trees and contoured greens that are very fast. Water hazards come into play on two holes. The course has the ideal level of challenge while still maintaining playability for players of all skill levels. There is an additional set of tees in case golfers choose to play Balfour Golf Club as an 18-hole round.

Play Balfour
Beautiful course with great views and many challenges.
Amazing Course
Great round of golf, course is in immaculate condition.
great day on the course
I am a 28 handicap but managed to pull off a 46 on nine so of course the day was great. 4 pm tee time was perfect for lighting conditions thought the greens were dry and wouldn't always hold onto a ball. lots of fun though as my partner was trying to hassle me which didn't work and he shot nine more strokes than I did.
Balfour in the fall
Excellent weather and the course was in great shape
West Kootenay Gem
Great course, good condition, friendly staff and spectacular scenery - doesn't get any better !
Surprised
Driving into the parking lot and looking at the clubhouse and facilities, we almost drove away! Dirt road and parking, clubhouse reminded me of a 50 year old trailer. But the guy at the ProShop was nice and helpful. The course itself could be absolutely amazing but just wasn't quite there. Well manicured but over watered in some spots gave it the 4/5 star.
You definitely need a cart on the back 9 unless you're a mountain goat but the front would be easy enough.
The biggest complain I had was the price. It really wasn't much of a deal and ended up costing $70/per person. Certainly would have expected better but unless you wanted to play in the stinking hot, that's what it cost us.
I'll play it again one day, but not for that price.
panaromic view off the 18th tee box
best round of golf this year, an epic day on a perfect course, it doesn't come any better. The greens, the fairways, the challenge, the views, all AAA+ ! !
Kootenay gem
Great may conditions.
Real friendly and helpful staff.
Good food in clubhouse.
Excellent value.
We'll be back for sure.
Gorgeous views!
Balfour Golf Course has beautiful views, friendly staff, challenging course and affordable prices! It is well worth just walking the course for the breathtaking views of the mountains, and the lake!
The restaurant has a variety of quality food and drinks to offer and the view from the clubhouse is also lovely! They sell local beer/wine and the meals are nicely presented.
Fun course
I really enjoyed playing Balfour. Unfortunately the greens were punched the day before we showed up, but we still played 36 holes.
I can't comment on the normal condition of the greens, but the rest of the course was in great shape for mid September.
The course is very fun. It has 3 par 5s in the first 4 holes, but there are also many scoring opportunities on the par 4s. Balfour is an excellent risk/reward course, as a birdie can turn into a bogey very quickly.
There is a large, somewhat unnecessary, elevation change on the back nine, which leads to some great views.
I love that the course felt like it was in the middle of nowhere, but is only a 25 minute drive from Nelson.
I will be back to play!
Enjoyable Day
An enjoyable course to play. Front nine is generally flat with some easy and some challenging holes. Back nine is more up and down with some beautiful golf holes. Unfortunately, there are also a couple of goofy holes.
This course is well manicured and in good shape. There are several water features and some great views. Greens are receptive but putt slow.
Overall a very worthwhile course to play.
Only real downer for me is "What's with all the flagging tape all over the water hazards?" You have created some nice golf holes with water only to ruin the look by stringing flagging tape all over to keep the geese away. My advice: the tape is ugly and detracts from the look of your course. Take it down and deal with the goose droppings.
Very nice course!!
My only complaint about this course was the beverage cart service. In 18 holes only seen it once.
Great moutain course for this community
I was pleasantly surprised how nice this course was for this small community. In my opinion they've invested in the right things - a good course with proper ball washers, tee boxes, and well kept greens and fairways; the parking lot isn't paved and the clubhouse isn't an architectural statement so in my mind a good choice of priorities! We will come back.
fun course to play
nice course fun to play, back nine was a bit of challenge for walking gave a good workout.
it was pricey at $63 would have played it a second time if the price was more reasonable.
Great small town course with a mix for all levels of golfers.
A course for all levels of golfers. Quite challenging back nine, the scenery is well worth the price of admission. We will definitely be back and look forward to playing Balfour again.
Course is in great shape
This course has it all. Long holes, hills, beautiful views, nice greens. I would recommend anyone coming into this area to play it.
Beautiful setting and in excellent condition. Agood walk with some uphill clim.
One of our favourite courses to
play with excellent greens and
great fairways. Lots of challenges
in a pristine setting. Great Pro
Shop with very friendly staff.
Very Very Rainy Day
Terrible weather yesterday but we still had fun! Front 9 is long and need to bomb the driver. Keep it straight as there's plenty of trees. Back 9 tip, don't be tempted to use the driver on most of the par 4's...instead I should have managed the course better. Fairway was waterlogged for most of the round which made it hard to get any roll but the greens are fun and challenging!
Fun for the Average golfer
A small misunderstanding with the Staff was quickly rectified
As a casual golfer I found the course to be challenging but the wide
and well maintained fairways made it enjoyable.
Bombing into open fairways
Open and fun first 9 holes. Much more open the most Kootenay courses. Although the wooded areas on the sides of most holes can be difficult to find balls, theres enough space to stay in the green. Great conditions for Spring
