About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
West Palm Beach Golf Course has hosted a variety of tournaments since opening in 1947, some that have included famous players such as Arnold Palmer. This historic course stands out from all of the area's public courses. Unlike Florida's many flat courses, West Palm Beach has an undulating terrain that provides interesting elevation changes. The course features elevated tees and greens and rarely is there a flat lie. The rolling hills are covered with native vegetation, palm trees, and mature pines and oaks. There is also no water to be found on the golf course, another rare occurrence in this area. In 2009, the course underwent a major renovation that made it environmentally friendly. There is also a full grass driving range and large practice area that overlook West Palm Beach Golf Course.

Where does the money go?
The bunkers and greens were ok but the fairways, all of them were awful. There was a few strands of something that once upon a time may have resembled grass, but that had to be a long time ago. The fairways looked more like very poorly managed sand traps. For a reason I can't understand there was a fair number of people playing there. What they do with the revenue I don't have a clue, certainly not course maintenance.
And, it took us over 5 hours to play due excessively slow play ahead of us. We experienced a minimum of 5 minute wait at every tee box and before every non par three second shot.
What Happen
This used to be a fun course. What happen to the fairways, they are playing like wast bunkers (where is the grass) and the course was a true three star it plays now as a one star, not a good price for such pour condition. Staff are great!
Inexpensive
Play here during the winter because it’s the cheapest in my area. The fairways are very thin and non existent in some areas. Seems like the sprinklers are not sufficient to to keep sand from taking over. Greens are decent but looks like players never fix divots. Bring your own water as I wouldn’t trust the coolers they have on the course and not enough anyway. If you hit down the middle the fairways are decent so overall you can’t beat for the price.
No Grass on Course
This was a miserable round. The course had no grass on any fairways or rough. It was like hitting off sand the entire time. This course has gone way downhill in the few years since I’ve played it which is a shame because it is a fun layout. There are sugar sand hazards along the fairways. This is NOT what I mean when I say the course has no grass. I mean the fairways and rough have no grass growing on them. I was told they will be renovating soon but to charge $45 for these conditions took some cahones.
Sad
Great layout... but no fairway grass at all. Greens were fine, but the waste area has crept all the way into many fairways.
Goat Track
Greens are in good shape, But that was it. Rest of the course is God Awful, you could hit a perfect drive right down the middle of the fairway and you would be hitting out of what can only be described as a sand trap.
The worst course in Palm Beach County
Unfortunately, I used to like this course a few years ago. They did a major renovation, which I didn't care for, but since then this place has really gone downhill. And it has been that way for a while now. definitely not worth the money. Cannot recommend this course until major improvements are made
Fairways in Awful Condition
Greens are fine. Most fairways are brown dirt. Hard to find any grass to put your ball on. Lots of weeds in fairways and rough.
PLANT SOME COCONUTS LYING AROUND...
Since the redevelopment years back the protective Australian pine trees were all removed from the course, leaving is exposed to the prevailing winds.
PLEASE pick up a Coconut lying around everywhere, take your sandwedge and quickly scoop away some sand and set the coconut 1/2 down in the sand.
'IF" WPBCC casual sand along the fairways were a thick coconut plantation the course would be a lot greener, and require less water.
As players please help!..'its easy', and in years ahead you can say...see that beautiful coconut tree...'I planted it'! ...Together we can do it!
Every round plant a nut! (takes 1 min) while you wait for your shot...Thank you!
This was the worst golf course I have played in 20 years, and I'm not exaggerating. There was basically no grass anywhere on the course except the greens. Everything else, including fairways, was weeds and sand. To top it off, it took 90 minutes to play 5 holes, at that point my partner and I had had enough of this place. We were offered a raincheck, but this place was so bad I didn't even want to return on a rain check.
Please Fix!
I have been playing this course for the past 5 years. It really is a nice layout but the fairways are cooked. Apparently there is a problem with their irrigation system and the grass is dying. It would be a shame to lose this course. Please fix it!
Poor condition
Don't tried to find grass there , fairway are like patatoes field, green are just ok
Bad condition.
Fairways in very bad condition. No grass. Greens correct.
No grass in fairways --all burned up!
Apparently this course lost their irrigation system in the last hurricane leaving the tee boxes and fairways either all brown scruff with tons of sand or just sand. They are watering the greens so once you got there it was fine.
This should be something you know before booking your round. We won't go back until they have grass.
We paid $19 for our round thought the people we played with paid $35.00. I would have asked for my money back if the charge was $35.
People in the proshop and snack shack are really nice and were apologetic about the state of the course.
