The greens are great in 2016
I was compelled to offer a review of Morningstar G.C. in 2016 since the last person's comments were posted in 2014.
Yes, the greens were severely damaged then but have fully recovered and this season, have been superb! Pure, smooth green and rolling true and quick :)
Fairways have played firm and fast as summer unfolded, and in August 2016 bounce-and-roll was good for another 30+ yards easily.
Generally speaking, this is one tough golf course LOL. For me, breaking 100 is a good round. Scratch golfers won't look down their noses at this course. It demands long shots with accuracy.
Hole #12 is my favourite. If you play there, you'll see why!
Morningstar separates the real golfers from those who aspire to. You definitely should check it out. Twilight 18 with a cart (starts at 3pm) is fifty bucks all in. A great deal.
Greens SO BAD !!!!!
This is a very difficult review to write, because there was so much good, BUT the greens have been killed by poison water. So really no grass on them. The rest of the course was in above average condition considering we haven't had rain for two months. If you're going to play it, check on condition when making T time. Not much sand in bunkers.
Since then, the greens have fully recovered. Morningstar's greens have been beautiful this summer (2016)...
Luckily, the horror show left no lasting mark and, having golfed numerous rounds at Morningstar this season, I can attest to their superb condition. Cheers.
The Poor Greens
I have played Morningstar a number of times and have always found the course to be in pretty good shape. It is such a shame that the greens have been damaged, supposedly by poisoned water according to some other reviews. We had a pretty good rate with GolfNow so I can't complain too much but I can't believe they are still charging full fare for regular green fees. Only other complaint are the bunkers need to be re-built there is no where near enough sand in many of them.
Greens a bit sparse from lack of water but great challenging layout.
As we weren't told there was a mistake with watering and the water killed the fairway and greens. We still paid full price . If the course was in good shape it would of been in my opinion a challenging course. The other thing is when going to the tee there is no layout of the hole. It is not on the card or anywhere but in a book which you can purchase for 8 dollars.
Its to bad because Morningstar was my favorite course in the Nanaimo area. But now some of the greens are in terrible shape and make myself and friends look else where
challenging coarse definitely have lots of extra balls
A beautiful course situated in a large housing development. This was the first time playing on this course . As an average golfer , I was initially intimidated by the size of this course. But we were luckily paired up with a former member that knew every part of this course. He definitely helped my game along.
We'll be back
Hubs and I came for another go at having better games than the first time. This is a championship course so is set to be more difficult than some, narrower fairways, lots of hazards and tricky greens. You do have to work to get to the hole. We did shave a few strokes off though! Nice to sit for a cool drink and a bite afterwards. Delicious French fries! Great value with Golf Now deal.
Considering this course has held several BC Championships, the green were in terrible shape with many dead grass spots on the greens
A Little Wet but the course needed the rain
A very enjoyable round of golf. A few greens are suffering from the recent drought so it was fitting that we got rained on for a few holes. I found that the sand bunkers need to be raked better or have some addition sand brought in as they are getting thin. Morningstar is a challenging course at times but who isn't up to a challenge. First time playing the Silver tees, (hybrid of the blue/white) & thought the distance was perfect.
great golf course and amazing value.i could repeat the same thing over
Good value, some fairways needed improvement. A challenging course
will be back
Course and staff were excellent - very challenging course - really enjoyable
Good course has championship tee boxes lots of options for beginner right to scratch golfer. good walk too
bring your A game
requires planning and positional play. had 4, three putts from 30 ft or so. playing the par fives for a five is a good plan.
this course has lots of doglegs
The first hole was typical of my day.I couldn't see the green or a flags anywhere . The score card had no picture of the course layout,so we played conservative off of the tee. The course was in excellent condition.Greens were of various shapes & sizes that made you hit to a spot to avoid any 3 putts. I shot an 85 today, one of my best rounds of the year. Lots of golfers were walking, but it is a long course,so i rode.
Good Conditions, Fair Price
After golfing Fairwinds the day before, Morningstar was a treat. Staff was friendly, everything well laid out, golf carts were in excellent condition, course well maintained. Much better value for money than Fairwinds.
Early Summer and the course is in good shape
Morningstar never fails to challenge and is almost always in pretty good condition. Today was no exception, the course is in very good shape. They have added some bunkers since I last played and allowed the fescue and long grass to really grow in some areas. Some of the pin placements are extremely challenging when tucked into the smaller tiers on the large rolling greens. The fairways and rough are very soft and it felt a bit like they are over-watering for this early in the summer.
The course was in good shape, enjoyed it very much!
