Avoid - Terrible condition, pace of play, etiquette!
Our threesome is average, bogey golf that can score at times. We scheduled an 8:37am tee time so as to be wrapped up well ahead of Superbowl Kick off.
-our first vision was the "Course Ambassador" talking to TWO foursomes waiting on the 2nd tee -
-next vision was the largely ungroomed state of the course. The fairways were an average of 75% brown or bare dirt, even after weeks of rain here in Southern CA
-practice facility completely full, ball dispenser completely empty
-line up for the starter at 8:20am and told to back up as there was another foursome ahead of us
-starter informs is "we are running around 20 minutes behind" at 8:30am!!
-running that slow on a Sunday and walkers were still being sent out
-2 foursomes go off before us, play the tips and proceed to rip balls into the OB 100 yards down, continue to play in this fashion.
-the course ambassador does nothing with their poor play, even as the gap in front of them became 1 to 2 holes and they never offered to let us play through. In addition, they were occasionally dropping a second ball when they missed a putt.
-not sure who the designer set this course up for but a few of the par 3's are over 200 even from the whites and reds. Most players refuse to use those and are trying to hit from the blues.
-I would refer to this course as a cow pasture but that would literally be an insult to cow pastures!
The operators of this course should be embarrassed to open it for play each day in its current condition and should be charged with a felony for charging $40 to play it. I have played 35 years, muni's to private, this is the worst course I have played. I don't know that I would play here again even with a full comp. Sad really!
Geese fight
After the rain, the course was in terrible shape. Appears there are not enough maintenance people to adequately take care of the course. Male geese are protecting their nesting egg-laying mates. They actually attacked the cart by dive-bombing it and then came dangerously close chasing the cadrt while hissing and showing their sharp teeth. Scary stuff.
I like the diversity of this golf course!
I find it hard to score great on this course even though I’m not the greatest player in the world. It’s some cool and challenging par 3 holes and some par 4’s, but I like coming back and I’m doing my best ;-)
The course it’s very walkable and usually takes about 3 1/2 hours to play this par 61 course.
I will be back!
Needs Work
This place has been going downhill for years. Keeps getting worse all the time. Tee boxes are always beat up or hard as a rock. Sand traps are rocks, not sand. Dry and mud spots all over, no consistency in the fairways and rough. Greens way to slow. Bathrooms on front nine closed (again). Bar closed, pro shop closed, snack bar closed at 4pm. Just a dump really.
Great Course
Course is Great for beginners to intermediate player. Great Sunny Cal day pace of play was great not over booked.
Good Bang for the Buck
Even though it’s a parr 61 course it offers great challenging holes. Unfortunately we were backed up by two groups ahead of us, so the pace of play was not to our liking. Course needs a little TLC but other than that experience was great
Greens need work
The speed of the greens was inconsistent, which made them difficult to putt.
Busy
Was running 2 hours late on tee times
I had a10:15 am starter says 12:40 at the earliest
Not upset, happy the course is making money but I couldn’t wait
I sure hope GOLFNOW doesn’t charge me for not playing
Usual round at Vista. Fair conditions all around. Get out there mid week and you can get it in pretty quickly. Not a lot of public options in the area. Glad this is an option.
REALLY need COURSE Marshall
I would have given this course a 5-star rating all the way around and recommended the course to others EXCEPT for the pace of play. This course should NOT take 5-hours to play. Two groups ahead of us was a 5-some. The group ahead of us was a 5-some who somehow picked up two kids under ten at the turn. They let the kids drive the cart AND hit balls AND putt. One guy kept leaving his clubs at every hole which kept us from hitting because he had to keep coming back up the fairway. Two guys in the group could barely play and received “coaching” even on the green. Five strokes out of the sand trap is ridiculous. A Marshal could have shut this down.
In all fairness, the course landscaping, greens, concrete work, tee boxes, and fairways have improved GREATLY. Get a Marshall out there!
Total agreement! I have been playing this course 2-3 times per year for over 35 years. I will not ever play this dump site again - better suited as a landfill.
