course impression
The golf course is in fair condition which is expected due to the drought restrictions in place. Fairways are dry with some loss of grass. Greens are in decent shape. Green fees are good given the course conditions. I would rate the course difficulty as fairly easy.
Windy Windy Windy
Greens fantastic, fairways and tees surprisingly good. Wind was ripping at 2-3 clubs all day (1:00 TT), but for $26, best deal around.
If it's your first time here, hope you get paired with someone familiar with the layout - many blind tee shots.
Windy
Good course for the $. But be ready for some wind.
Fairways needs some TLC
Fairway condition not too good on some holes. This may due to the golf course being used as parking lot for football. On some holes you can see the beaten down tracks of cars and parking dividers etched in the turf. I can see that this was once a beautiful golf course. Not anymore.
Good old course
First time playing here, and had a good time! You can tell this course gets a ton of play, it is quite beat up. Even with that said, the course design and layout is excellent! Forgiving off the tee, and the huge greens give you a good chance to get up and down. Enjoyed seeing the 49ers stadium for most of the round. Worth trying if you haven't played Santa Clara GC.
they should post they just aerated greens
the course wasn't that bad considering they use it as a parking lot now for the events at the new stadium(literally park all the cars on the fairways and wherever they can fit besides greens)Although had they parked them on the greens they would have rolled better. They had just plugged them and sanded them but never rolled them so they were extremely bumpy and ridiculously slow, impossible to hole a putt except for luck if it bounced in.two 5 somes in front of us,one let us past the other held there ground and were a hole behind at least.Noone in charge was present in the facility,I was angry it didn't tell us on gold now like normal and I would have never booked there,I don't like aerated greens....a lot of dead areas on the fairway due to parking and cars, but overall playable still if the greens were true and you just dropped off dirt areas. To bad they let this course go it used to be an alright place to play.....disappointed.
Note to Fremont golfer - ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS check greenskeeper dot org this time of year and in the fall for the latest rundown on who's aerating and when. Ye shall have that open in a separate browser while it's tee times you seek !!
A parking lot and a golf course
We were told when we checked in that we would have to play the front 9 twice because they were punching the back 9. After an hour we were told we could play the back 9. With the greens just punched it was kind of bogus, very bumpy and sandy. This course is used for parking for the adjacent 49's stadium across the street and it looks it, very ratty fairways, tire marks everywhere and lots of missing turf. If you don't mind that it is a very interesting layout with some great holes. Buyer beware.
Good price value for the course
This was a very nice course centrally located in the south bay. The amenities of the golf course were very nice. The driving range was also very nice. The greens were in very good shape. I would recommend this course for the price
Good Practice!
I have been playing the course a lot lately. It is close to my residence and the price is good. The course is a typical municipal facility Fairways are pretty wide, greens large and not too much trouble. However if played in the afternoon from the back tees it's pretty challenging. I use it to practice different shots and improve my swing. It's always fun.
Uncorteous staff
Had tee time at 6:15 so arrived at 6:00. The clubhouse wasn't open. It didn't open until 6:25. It was 6:30 by the time I was on the first tee box. Not a single word of apology from the clubhouse attendant. Terrible experience.
greens!!!
i like this course especialy on greens!
it`s so fast and waving a lot, that`s why those are so challenging, tough, and enjoyable.
Decent but not good...bad but not terrible
Overall, the course was fair for it's price. It's definitely true when they say,"you get what you pay for." By all means I did not expect conditions like some of the higher end courses in San Jose but it's sad to see a course that was once known as a "nicer" golf course has now been ran down to the ground. With all the news about being torn down in the near future, I guess they will just stop grooming fairways and rolling greens.
Tee boxes and greens need work...
I've played this course probably a dozed times, since it first opened many years back.
Pros...
It's got a good layout, and many of the greens have great contour. In the wind, it can become exponentially more challenging.
Cons...
Overall it's looking a bit shabby, and that might be due to budgetary considerations more than anything else (e.g., water rationing). If they focused on keeping the tee boxes well groomed, and firming up the greens, the rest of the course is passable. The greens could be really fun and treacherous if they weren't so bumpy and soft.
NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!!
Very average golf course. I think they need a new greens keeper because numerous bare spots and just overall bad course conditions. I don't think that anyone that plays there repairs their ball marks on the greens, I fixed a minimum of 5 ball marks on every green. Never saw a beverage cart and when we made the turn the woman behind the bar was painfully slow. The pace of play was slow at best. This course is worth around $30 greens fee. Practice range has numerous stalls and everyone is expected to hit off of mats; the only problem is that there are no rubber tees to hit a driver. With that said a large bucket costs you $10 which is too much for having to hit only irons.
poor fairway
As this course is being used as a parking lot during the 49ers' games, the fairways are torned up, even though the greens are in very good condition.
The ride rate from GolfNow beats the club walk rate. So no complaint there. There is one uphill hole and one across the freeway walk that you wish you can get a ride.
potential
Lots of potential with this golf course. Greens are lush and would be among the best around if only they rolled the bumps out. Fairways and tee boxes are mediocre, but expected given the drought. Pace of play on a weekday is very fast (<3.5 hours). Overall, this course could be great if only they put some money into it. As is, it's a muni track with above average greens.
Fairway toughs
Go 49ers! They use it as a parking lot! Not too bad of conditions, considering !
Green were in great shape, nice driving range and the staff there are the Best! Very friendly!
A leave work early round
Took off work early to play and hit a hot deal. For Santa Clara it was a great price especially if you're not a resident. The fairways are ok, spotty in some sections. The pace of play was alright, always some jokers playing from the tips that can't hit it past the ladies tees and marking 1 foot putts. Greens were in great contidion, receptive and speedier than normal (nothing like Cinnabar though). Overall it's a nice long course to play that offers some challenge.
An Excellent Muni Course
The Santa Clara Golf Course is an excellent course bu muni standard. The greens and fairways are lush. The doglegs, sand bunkers, and small elevation changes make the course interesting. The pace is resaonable fast as everybody tried to complete the course before dusk.
It would be prefect if there is some sign or map to show the shape of the fairway. A lot of times, I either saw no flag due to dogleg and/or elevation change or a few flags from the tee box. Some signing by the tee box or a map on the scoring card would take the confusion away.
Whenever I go there, they always let me know about the deposit.
