Applewood Golf Course
About
The public, 18-hole Applewood Golf Course is a popular golf destination for families. The course is 5,992 yards, playing to a par of 71. The course is located in Golden, against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The course opened in 1961 and was designed by J. Press Maxwell. Maxwell wanted to maintain the natural beauty of the landscape and he successfully incorporated it into elements of the course. Another trace of Applewood Golf Course's scenic appeal is in the wildlife that is often spotted by golfers. The golf course has slight elevation changes as well as water hazards but it is still suitable for all levels of golfers.

Slooooow!
Paid for 18 but left after 9 holes. Took almost 3 hrs. Played with lovely people so was enjoyable, but incredibly slow even for a Sunday! No wonder golf is shrinking in popularity. It's just too slow!
Slow play
Five hour around the course was muddy and in poor condition
Beautiful little course, great value
Great conditions make for an outstanding value. Mellow, peaceful and enjoyable play. If fast pace of play is something you're after you'd be better off going elsewhere. Great course for beginners.
Slow Play on a weekday
Five hours in 90 degree heat on a mid-week afternoon was not pleasant. The course marshall was very visible and approachable but apparently
unable to get groups moving. Greens in good condition, fairways pretty soft in most spots. Rough would eat your ball in almost every case and I had too many cases. Facilities have been upgraded and repaired over previous years which is good to see.
Applewood Golf Course
Good staff, good conditions, great weather, slow play, especially after the turn.
No upfront disclosure of TWO shotgun tournaments going on!
We booked a morning tee time on Saturday and my biggest gripe was that the course not only booked our foursome in the middle of two separate shotgun tournament (double booked two foursomes on every hole besides public) but didn't mention anything when we booked the tee time. Ridiculous! It took is 5.5 hrs after teeing off 20min late since the course owners couldn't even get the tournament participates going. Course was fine besides this. I would play again but will always call ahead of time now to make sure this doesn't happen again.
Applewood
Applewood is a course that is a course that is good for beginners as it is fairly flat and has some fairly easy holes. It can also be enjoyable for the average golfer with holes that can be a little more demanding, depending on which tee box you use.
Nice course
Overall this is a nice little course. Playing from the blues the front nine was pretty short, but made you work at keeping the ball down the middle. The back nine was a little longer with the three par 5's but still was pretty easy to score well. The conditions were fairly good for being mid July and I would recommend anyone to go to this course for a good time. Pace of play was a little slow 4.5 hours but I've definitely seen worse.
Nice Course
Had a great day taking my wife out for her first round of golf ever; she played well and really enjoyed the game and the views the course offered. I enjoy this course and have played there a few times as it is centrally located between me and my golfing friends.
Noticed the improvements
Nice job of speeding up play by shaving that hill side on #8. Cart path improvements noticed, and the staff was young, professional, and friendly. A couple of tee boxes hard to get a tee into. The normal dry edges of the fairways are still in good condition.
Great down to earth course
Corse and staff were great, course ran slow that day
While we're young
We played 18.... Took 3 hours to do 9. Beer cart was done for the day by 3:30 ...? So slow. They over book tee times.
Speed
The pace of play was slow. 5 1/2 hr round. Don't know if it was that way for father's day or expect every weekend. I enjoy the course though. I am getting tired of these course manager trying to cram the courses with 10 min tee times. Might work for the pros but definitely no the duffers (self included) on this course.
Fun Track
Although not a championship course, there are enough holes that are just fun. From driveable par 4s, doglegs that make you get creative. A great course for a scramble. For the money, a good course when you are not looking for great test.
This course has the worst tee boxes ever
I play this course because it is close to home but the Tee boxes are a disaster. You have to look for a level spot and there are only patches of grass on them. The sand traps could use some work too.
starter was very helpful & friendly
I booked a threesome ,myself & 2 sons.
On the morning before our tee time one of my sons
wanted to take his son to ride along & we would pay the cart fee for him.
The starter could see that the boy wanted to play
so he managed to move the single that was to play with us & made my grandson very happy!
I really appreciate him doing that!
we all had a great time
Dont Overpay...
Course was in decent shape. you could tell that the greens were just aerated... so that wasn't fun. Overall a good course. Not a $40+ course... get on golf now for deals.
Poorly managed; fairly good course
1. Driving range setup was in sloppy mud; could have been moved up 15 yards to dry area. No water/towels to clean muddy clubs afterward.
2. No announcement of start; finally we just went up and hit about 15 minutes after scheduled tee time.
3. No marshaling to keep pace of play reasonable; marshal came by twice but just zoomed past.
4. Fairways were pretty good but greens are quite bumpy (recent aeration?).
5. Not worth the price; at $25-30 it would have been OK.
