Applewood Golf Course
About
The public, 18-hole Applewood Golf Course is a popular golf destination for families. The course is 5,992 yards, playing to a par of 71. The course is located in Golden, against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The course opened in 1961 and was designed by J. Press Maxwell. Maxwell wanted to maintain the natural beauty of the landscape and he successfully incorporated it into elements of the course. Another trace of Applewood Golf Course's scenic appeal is in the wildlife that is often spotted by golfers. The golf course has slight elevation changes as well as water hazards but it is still suitable for all levels of golfers.

Course was not in very good shape. Not a fun course to play.
Course was not in very good shape. Crowded and really wet. Couldn't use the hitting range because they were mowing. Need to manage time better.
Needs to have better maintained fairwasy
I like Applewood, but they really need to fill in the dirt areas found an most fairways.
Well maintained Course
Course is very open, with wide fairways for the most part. Hole # 8 is a sharp dogleg left with trees and heavy grass on the left that can tempt a long hitter to try for the green by going over the tree line. There are a few elevated tee boxes, which I liked and minimal water hazards, which I also liked. Overall a pleasant moderately easy course to play.
Tee boxes are atrocious, not level and poor condition
This course has come a long way in the last five years but it has some areas that still need attention. The tee boxes nee to be seeded and leveled.
Nice layout, good people working there.
I like courses that use a starter -- this starter was super friendly and quite informative too. I also had a chance to speak with the Marshall, who was a really nice guy. I golfed as a single and was assigned a cool group. The greens were well maintained and the pace of play picked up immensely after the front nine. My favorite hole is #8, the crazy 300+ par 4 that is a 90 degree dog leg. I can't get there in one, but it was fun watching the others knock it into the long rough trying! I also enjoyed the par 3 9th with the intimidating water.
Winter Golf
Considering winter conditions the coarse was not in to bad a shape, however the coarse was charging summer fees for these conditions. If I had not purchased my green fees for $13 off through Golf Now I would not have been happy. The staff was fine except for the fact that they ran us out of the clubhouse 15 minutes before it was dark out. Our foursome had just purchased beers and we were relaxing in the lounge when we were told we had to leave as they were closing. We were only 1/4 of the way through our beers. The staff member said that we could sit outside and finish them. There were no tables set up outside only cold wrought iron chairs that we didn't even use.
Winter Maintenance
The course was in good condition for the month Jan. No snow on the ground but the grass was dormant. There was ice on all the water features. The ground was frozen and the greens were faasasst. Bump and run was the style of play.
Great value and always a good place to meet friendly people.
It's a good course to go to when I have time. Everyone is so friendly and nothing but compliments to all I have played a round with.
great conditions this year way to improve
dont play here very often but this year i was impressed that the course was in good shape and the clubhouse after the remodel looked very nice.. this course could be so much more great views but it did help that the course was in good shape greens rolled true the bad thing was the pace of play 2hr 45 mins for the front 9 on this course is over the top slow but the staff was more than willing to offer a rain check if we didnt finish i thought that was a great offer since it was the "hot deal" of the day i will go back after i played this go around.. keep in mind this is a short course flat very easy to score a great course if your just starting out
fun
fun course, more difficult when windy, nice pace of play most days
Solid but nothing special
It's not a particularly interesting or challenging course. That said, it's in good condition and I enjoyed my round.
