Fun Golf in the Badlands

Bully Pulpit is set in a valley within the North Dakota Badlands next to Theodore Roosevelt' National Park. The course overall was a fun play, although felt the front 9 was a tad bland, and had converted one of the par 4's to a short par 3 for renovation. Was told a couple others holes on the front were due for renovation as well. What the front lacks is made up for on the back. Some stunning views, elevation changes, and forced carries give the course more teeth. All in all a fun play and recommend for the $89 green fee.

Beautiful Location

The course is built in a valley in the badlands with a few holes actually going up into them. Really beautiful views and the course conditions were nice although wasn’t amazing or quite as nice as you would think for the $100 price tag. The layout was ok and the few holes that actually meandered through the badlands were holes 14, 15 and 16 were beautiful but not actually very good holes. I definitely enjoyed it and would recommend playing it but if you took this layout, minus the 3 badlands holes, and put it anywhere else in the country, you would say the course is just ok. Personally I wouldn’t say it’s a top 100 public course and the only reason they can charge $100 is because it’s location with no other options around. That being said, still fun but would be a solid 5 Star course if it was $50.

Views at a Cost

This course is known for holes 14-16 that provide spectacular views while playing over and around canyons but from a golf design perspective they might be the worst 3 holes on the course. Fairways and greens built on the side of hills make this seem too tricked up and take any rhythm out of your round that you may have had. Specifically, the fairway and green on 14, the green on 15 is comically small(makes TPC Sawgrass look simple and this is on the top of a bluff so always windy), and the green on 16 with the pin in the front(impossible to stop a putt from above the hole). So interestingly enough, the holes that people pay the money to play with all of the great views are some of the worst of the bunch. It's still a fun course to play but I most enjoyed the holes 1-13 &17-18 because they weren't tricked up or forced.

Completely agree with everything you said. I would add that some of the best holes in the state are on the rest of the course. 17 is a beautiful risk reward par 5. I really like 3 and 4 also. Some great holes and i think a fantastic track overall but the magazine cover holes are awful. 14 and 16 are possibly the two worst holes ive played.

Windy and wild

When I started planning our summer trip and trying to play golf in all of the states that we were going to, this was a must play in my opnion. A little pricey, but it is such a change from we normally play, that we bit the bullet and just played it.
Front nine relatively flat and lots of chances of to score well... the back nine goes into the Badlands and it gets scenic and a little more difficult. The views were outstanding and the wind just made it more challenging. Wind was the operative word as it was gusting to about 30 mph, but being from Ok.. and used to it, so that was no bother.
You really have to go out of the way to get up here and play the course, but if you are on the way to Yellowstone from the upper midwest, this is a must play.

Must Golf outing!!

Golfed Bully Pulpit a number of times. You must drive it. Worth the cost. Awesome course and views!! Watch for the wildlife and stay out of natural grasses as they are protected and their are probably snakes in the grass!

unbelievable!!!

This is an absolute must play. The back 9 is absolutely stunning. This course runs along the Missouri river and in the badlands of north dakota. This creates gorgeous views along with a wide variety of tee options meaning its great for all skill levels. Staff is very friendly. Course was in prestine condition. Highly recommended!!!
