Best Greens in Oregon
I play Quail Valley often. I got a great golf now deal for me and a friend. The course is sort of a mix of links and park style courses. The wind blows there in the afternoon making club selection challenging on some holes. There is a fair amount of water and areas where the grass is waist high. There are 2 things that make the course really worth the drive. The greens are as good as you'll play anywhere. They are beautifully maintained at a fast pace and roll perfectly. The slopes and breaks make them challenging and they always roll true. The other is the friendliness of the staff. Doug Hixon, the best Teaching Pro I've ever met, sets the tone the great team there. Everyone at course is great.
nice, links-style course
This course has several ponds that present water hazards aplenty, but also lots of ducks and other birds to make noise and entertain you. The course is relatively flat and has few trees, so it is somewhat reminiscent of a links-style course. If you are hitting straight you should be able to score well as you will avoid water and long grass areas. Enough variety to keep it interesting, and the front 9 is a good warmup for the back. Not as challenging as other nearby courses, but worth a visit, especially if you live nearby.
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly!!
Mixed feelings. Played on Labor Day, so busy. That said, only 41/2 hours. Played with 2 locals who call course "3 putt Valley" and for good reason. Extremely fast and difficult to read. If above hole forget it. Don't get me wrong they are in super condition. Biggest complaint is there are a lot of back and forth holes which is dangerous, If I wasn't playing someone else's fairway they were playing mine. Like many N/W courses there was a lot of soft (Marshmallow) fairways due to over watering. Probably won't return for these reasons.
Great Value for the Money
Quail Valley is always an enjoyable place to play. The course is in good condition and a fun, yet friendly design. Most holes are fairly open, but there are some good challenges mixed in. Definitely one of the best values in the Portland area.
The greens were very fast and tough to hold
Overall, the course was in good shape. The greens were really fast, 11.5 or faster on the stimp meter. Because of its design, the greens are hard to hold with a mid or long iron. Many shots hit in the middle of the green and rolled off the back. It's a course that looks easy, but the greens give it teeth!
This is one of the best golf courses in Portland.
The course located in beautiful farmland with meadow views. Greens are in great shape and fun to play although it may be tricky to read and is pretty fast. Friendly staff and course is well managed. Don't miss this one.
Great Value
course is well maintained, greens always seem to be in fantastic shape, fairly fast, smooth rolling. Fun layout, very little OB, so it is forgiving to the average player.
Golfing was good!
First time my husband and I played Quail Valley. Nice course. Not too challenging. Especially like the large pond in the middle. The day was a little hot, but the wind made it bearable.
Great family golf outing
Walked 18 holes and was quite nice. Marshall's helped us find balls when hit out of bounds. Course was well maintained and was challenging. For sure will come back.........
Big difference from 22 years ago!
Played this course 22 years ago before there were trees. What a very pretty course. It was very challenging and for a Sunday pace of play was quite good.
Good pace with friendly staff
I played Sunday with two other golfers and the staff was very helpful to arrange my T-time. Throughout 18-holes, I did not have to wait and there was no wait for the group behind us as well. The pace was excellent and we finished in less than 4 hours. The course is fair with good fairway grass, but greens were very fast somehow on the day. Overall I enjoyed very much playing there on a nice weather. I will definitely play there again.
the course is a hard read
the greens are quick and a tadd difficult to read. the wind picked up and really made it more difficult. the greens were consistant in speed and a very fun course, I am not a true fan of links style courses , but I do enjoy this one.
Beautiful Course
Beautiful course surrounded by farmland. The course was in great shape. Very friendly staff. I think the distance on 2 of the red tees was unrealistic for most women, but otherwise the course is very fair if you hit the ball straight.
Nice Place
This is always a nice place to play. Pace of play can be slow at times especially on the weekends.
Good value, nice course, need a Marshall.
Quail Valley was well maintained with enough challenge to keep the round entertaining. Great Value! Pace of play was slow 5 hour 18 hole round. Had a "player assistant" on course but I don't think he was encouraging groups to keep pace of play. Overall it was great course for value, probably will play weekdays from now on to avoid slow play.
Quail
Fun course to play. Achievable good scores.
Great golf course
Quail Valley is a wonderful golf experience. Fantastic putting surfaces and outstanding quality for the price. Great golf experience.
First time out this year
Had a great time. Course was fairly dry for April. Pace of play was excellent. Will definitely be back.
Fantastic greens
It was a beautiful day and I loved the condition of the green. I had a lot of fun out there
