Still providing a great experience
This course opened in 1998 and showcased NEW quality golf design and turf care for Cape Breton it grand to see the commitment has remained.
This course was in Great Shape
Great day at Bell Bay! Weather was perfect for golf.
Passing through
Their rack rate of $100 per person without a cart is far to high for the course, the price from golf now was more inline of the price they should be asking $45 with cart. There was no course Marshall and play was a bit slow due to one group. There was no service cart on course and it was a hot day as well there were no drinking water on course only at turn. Course condition was good greens were rolling nice. Overall a good experience, would play again at the right $$ amount.
Poor Value
When you pay $249 Canadian for two golfers and cart, you don't expect to play behind a twosome of beginner golfers sharing a set of clubs. No drinking water on the course. All greens were temporary when the course opened this year and the regular greens had not recovered even though we played on them. Almost criminal that they didn't discount play due to conditions.
an awesome golf day
This is an excellent course with a very friendly staff. Play was great . Only tip is don't leave any food (bars , apples, etc) open in your cart ... the crows have this steal nailed to perfection!
Windy
Enjoyed the round, just a little to windy for my liking.
A definite must play in Cape Breton
A comfortable walk. Lots of moderately wide fairways. Fast, undulating greens. #17 and 18 are combine unique challenges with great views of the Bras D'Or lakes. A not to be missed course in Cape Breton.
No Brainer
Checked Golfnow.com early on the morning we played, and it was some kind of a special, as we only paid $15.00 per person cart included!!!! Regular price was $107.00. Doubt that I would ever pay the regular price, but it was a nice course, with all the features in an above average course. I would love to play this as a home course back in Ontario. Staff was very friendly. As mentioned in a previous review, some of the holes do go parallel, but they are far enough apart that you really don't interfere with each other. Nice views, don't miss it from the white tees on the 18th. Would play again in a heartbeat.
Bell Bay Golf Course
The course is in excellent condition! The only negative part is that it lacks character! Several of the oar 4's are similar so the same clubs are used throughout the round. The oar 3's are the highlights of the course.
Perfect day at Bell Bay
The course was in greast shape and the weather was fantastic. The pace of play was great as we wrapped up in less than 4 hours, we did not feel rushed and only had to wait a minute or two before teeing off at each tee box
Hidden Gem
Since in Cape Breton all the talk now is about the Cabot courses (and rightfully so), it is sad that this hidden gem is not getting the attention it deserves. The overall value for this course is amazing.. since the population of Cape Breton is dwindling, the area in which this course is located only draws during prime summer months, therefore easy to find GREAT daily deals. I played with my fiancé.. literally saw no one else on the course within 3 holes of us and finished in 3 hours max!
As mentioned in most other posts, the conditions are amazing, food, staff, etc.. but there is not much character in the way of everything is fairly similar.
All in all.. when you get a deal and can play this course (which is usually all the time) worth every penny.
Bell Bay
Fantastic course with some great views of the Bras d'Or Lakes. The course was in great shape considering how little rain there has been in Cape Breton. If you are in Cape Breton on vacation don't miss out of this gem
Boring
The course itself was in good condition. The greens were good, the fairways good, the tee boxes flat, but the course was boring. Mostly back and forth, the fairways paralleled each other. Nothing in the way of the greens except some bunkers and the fairways were for the most part straight. Granted there were spectacular vistas.
