A very nice layout...until 17-18
The breadth, expanse, and beauty of this course doesn't hit you until you start toward the first tee. After a brief stop at a nice practice range, it's a short ride up a hill to the first tee. From there you get your first view of rolling hills, green fairways, and the start of a solid test of golf. The course is an intelligent layout with difficulty on the edges to penalize bad shots. The fairways are not overly wide but definetely not too tight. However beware if you stray into the taller rough as your ball will sink deep and if you find it, will be almost unplayable. Bunkers are placed around the greens to catch off target shots. And a word on the bunkers. At the pro shop they are very open to tell you that they are working on restoring the bunkers and that most of them are played as ground under repair. When you see them, you will see why. Other than that, holes 1 to 16 are outstanding.
Then you hit 17. It is almost as if you are playing a different golf course The trees disappear. The rough is absent. The hard dogleg routing over water is contrived. 18 is a bit better but still not the same course you had just experienced. These last two holes are a disappointment based on the first 16. Despite this, it was a great experience and a fun round of golf well worth the trip.
Solar Eclipse Golf Day
This course is looking good. They have fixed all their cart paths. The greens and fairways are really starting to green up. It was a rainy cloudy afternoon, so the eclipse wasn’t too impressive. It just caused a twilight effect for a few minutes. Looking forward to playing again here soon.
Phenomenal Course
The workers were extremely friendly and the course played like a dream.
Great course
First time playing Avalon and as an avid golfer I can say I’m impressed. Very nice facilities, great hot dog, and the course is challenging but rewarding.
Avalon review
Great course to play. Best course you can find in Knoxville!
Great course for the money.
Had a great time at Avalon. A lot of good holes. Staff was super.
Place is not worth it at all
Conditions are nowhere near worth the price. Egwani is way better than Avalon, go there instead. Even Island Point is better than this place. Terrible pace here as well.
Fun course
Fun course, the greens definitely make this course a challenge. Would be tough to walk because of the distance between some of the holes.
Greens.
Love this course and have played there many times. The greens were pretty firm and hard to play on.
Great coarse
Great course and very friendly. Even still in the winter months does the course and greens really taken care of. I highly recommend and looking forward to going back
I agree with this review. The course really changes character on 17 & 18.
