Tea boxes were dirt no grass and greens had bare spots Not worth the Money
Must Play
I travel for work and have been to every state except for seven and I have played golf throughout every state and this is by far one of my favorite courses in the United States. Anytime I go through Knoxville I will stop here every time whether I have time or not to play this course. It is right off interstate 40 , if they are booked full they always find a way to fit me in , they never say we don’t have any tee times. Everybody and I mean everybody will treat you like it’s their opening day!!! You will feel very special and the food is way more than burgers and fries or a hotdog. All around an unbelievable experience every single time I go there, it is a must play for sure!!!!!!!
Excellent Time
Pace was great, conditions perfect. Thoroughly enjoyed round!
Avalon
Overall course was really good. Course was in good shape for this time of year. The starter was awesome...likes to keep pace of play quick.
Course condition
Tee boxes were in bad shape. Looked like they were over fertilized. Greens were very slow and some we in rough shape.
Always a good time
I really enjoy playing at Avalon. Really pretty and hilly, which is what I prefer over flat courses. Nicest golf carts anywhere. That said, some of the problems that have plagued this course over the years are still doing so. Although better than they were, some of the greens have bare or damaged parts and the tee boxes are often bare as well. I look past a lot of its issues since overall I always have a great time and the course is rarely busy when I play during the week. Add hot deal pricing to that and I'm good to go. Very friendly staff too! Working ball washers and well spaced on course bathrooms get them extra points too.
Great time
Had a great time at Avalon. Weather was perfect. Staff was very friendly, and pace relaxing. Thanks!
Greens are important!
Putting is almost half your strokes, if you can’t get greens right you might want to reconsider what the property is used for. Last played about 3 years ago and never wanted to return because they had lost their greens. Today I found that now with new greens a third of them had horrible problems. Yes you can avoid some of it with hole placement but golf still happens from bad spots. You ask for top dollar, but aren’t providing the equivalent conditions. Pics are clubhouse putting green and hole 10 for examples
Course currently in need of attention
I was amazed at what poor shape the course was in. Despite having new greens, they were in horrible shape with dead patches and were extremely slow. Tee boxes and fairways were also in poor shape. Appears they haven't been fertilized recently. When you compare the shape of the course to others in the area, such as Egwani Farms, you can tell it is not just the cooler weather but their approach to course maintenance. Cart paths were also in horrible shape and need to be repaired. Slow play and a fivesome ahead of us caused me to just leave before finishing.
One of the best in Knoxville
This was my first time playing at Avalon. Super friendly staff, and the shape of the fairways and greens are immaculate! We only played the front nine, but will definitely be back for a full 18.
Rough spots
The greens were strange. Very spongy. Some tee boxes had virtually no grass on them. The layout was great, but if I come back again I hope conditions do improve.
Save your money.
Place is still same old dump. Go to Willow Creek or pretty much anywhere and get better conditions.
For the money it’s atrocious
New greens are slow soft sponges you can’t work the ball on and they are already losing a few. they have zero grass in the fairways it’s mud and grassroots. 85 percent of the tee boxes are dried out dirt. I’m sorry but for the money they have about 10 courses that are way way way better for under what Avalon is charging. Used to be a great course 15 years ago but I’m afraid they have let it go to the point of no return.
Much Improvement!!
I played this course in 2021 and about 1/3 of the greens were almost unplayable. When I played in March of 2022 it was MUCH IMPROVED. Holes 10 and 11 still had a little patchiness but overall much, much better. I will definitely be playing here again this year!!
Excellent Golf Facility
A great layout with the best greens in the area. Payable, challenging, and provides 4 tee lengths per hole so one can play what is most comfortable for them. The clubhouse is beautiful.
