Virginia Oaks Golf Club

It was a very cold day with very few others on the course so the round was fast. There were too many leaves on the fairways, greens and off the fairways. Balls were lost right off the fairway due to the leaves. The greens were in poor shape

course condition was bad couple month ago but it was great this time.
I thank to staff to show best their effort to recover from summer damage.

Last time I had played here was around late summer this year. Yes, the course was in terrible shape then but the management assured me they were planning to take some extreme measures to repair and renovate (i.e. closing Tuesdays entirely to work on the course).

Today I crossed my fingers and went back because I was a bit curious about the progress. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, couple of greens were still spotty and some spots in the fairways were still in repair but lets face it, majority of the DC area public courses took a beating from dry/hot summer not to mention by now many of these courses would show some wear and tear.

Just purely based on the course condition today, I would give 3.5 stars but what really impressed me was the management. They promised and they delivered.

And on a personal note, I was very impressed how the general manager (I think Glenn is his name) accommodated me today. Long story short, I had a tee time in the early afternoon only to realize a possible thunderstorm was in forecast. So I got there 3 hours prior to my tee time on a very busy Saturday morning but he did everything he could to get me started as early as possible. So, this was another sign of this course's new management style - willingness to work with you and always trying their hardest to deliver!

As a result, I'm a happy golfer and hack, I think I even birdied a couple holes so I will be back again soon! Thanks, Glenn!

On a side note, the grille was not yet open so pack your snack/food.

Enjoyed the layout. Course showed signs of extensive maintenance efforts. Should come in nicely next spring. I would play again.

Fairway and green condition is no good.
They don't clean well the leaves. ):

I thought that the cost was fair and would return for the same cost. The restaurant was still not open so bring your own drinks and snacks. The greens were disappointing and in poor shape. Many had strange grass or something that made them difficult to putt on. The fairways were in decent shape. I do like the layout and it is somewhat a hidden gem. Although our pace was reasonable, I have played here when the pace is crazy slow.

Greens are still in poor shape and the bunkers are inconsistent and mostly need new sand.

Played this course when it first opened in 1995, and several times since. It has gone down hill in upkeep and service. Nice layout, but needs some care. Tees, greens and fairways are sparse in places. Grill shop and bar not open, but due for new management.

Course has taken a beating over the past several years. Fairways grass is not consistent throughout. Greens are very bumpy and will change the direction of your ball at any time.

This course is in very bad shape. Tee boxes were Unlevel and had no grass. Fairways had no grass. Most greens were missing grass. The pace of play was horrible. Had a 4some, then a twosome, then a twosome. Nobody managed the groups or the pace of play. Don't waste your time or money.

We have played VO several times and had a great time. This was not one of those times. It looks like they are digging up the entire course for some sort of renovation. It was pure dirt and the greens hadn't been touched in a while. The price was dropped in half online which is why we played there (we now know why). They did give us a gift card credit, but let's be real, I don't really want to play the course again anytime soon. We talked to someone who lives in the golf community and he said it was the worst he had seen it since the course opened.

The course is in terrible shape. The fairways have hardly any grass, the greens have weeds growing on them.

It's a shame because this used to be a nice course.

I would stay away and play elsewhere.

I haven't played the Oaks in a few years and I was appalled at the condition of the course. When we checked in, we were told that the course was being aerated and then we received free passes to play in the future(Golf cart not included). On the first hole, what we saw was a tee box sparsely covered with weeds and a fairway that was almost burnt out. And that was one of the better holes. Fairways in many cases were nothing but mud with the plugs laying on top. Out of the 18 greens only two were totally green with the rest having bare patches everywhere. I talked to the groundskeeper and was told the browning was because of lack of rain. However just across the lake was the Stonewall course totally green and well maintained. The plan is to seed the Oaks next week and magically he said all would be well in two weeks. That would be a miracle. This course has had several changes in ownership and it is evident that money for maintenance is very limited. I'll never return to the Oaks.

Starting with the 1st hole, tee box is in a horrible shape with bald spots everywhere including the putting green. Looks like the maintenance has been neglected for a while. The course layout is beautiful otherwise and staff is friendly.

My wife and I had not played this course in eight years and we were extremely Dissapointed in the overall condition of the course. Tee boxes were terrible; the fairways were a disaster and the greens were real bad. I would shut this course down for at least 3 months and aggressively address the grass, drainage and green areas. It is evident that no money has been put back into the course. Sad for the game of golf...

I was told that the course was in rough shape. The condition of the fairways and greens were for the most part a work in progress but playable. You can tell they are working hard to bring it back. I can't wait to see it when complete as it will be one of the better places to play in this area. The pace of play was great for me, it is a waste of time playing at some courses around here and waiting 10 minutes at every hole.

The personnel were very nice, just felt like a good place and good people. When we checked in, very reasonable price BTW, we received an overview of what to expect on the course. They explained that it was in less then good shape and in some areas rough. They offered a very nice discount coupon to get us to come back once the grounds were repaired.

I found the course to be challenging but I am an inexperienced player that has played for over 25 years. I do not claim to play well, otherwise you would be watching me on TV instead of me doing a review of this course.

Scenery of the course was beautiful, hills, trees, and water what else do you need for a relaxing Sunday walk.

If you are a beginner to an experienced player you would like this course and the people that run it.

I love playing VA Oaks....Holes 2-4 are some of the most beautiful and scenic holes in the area and you can not beat the prices they have right now.....Like another reviewer said once the grass grows back in and they change some tee boxes around this course will be at least double the price. Warning - the course is going under some renovations, but to me it plays hard and fast which I like and if you just play move the ball in your own fairway you can find a great lie. Also while the greens are under construction, they are still very very fast and fun to play. So all these people complaining should really get out and see other courses, I spent $80 to play rasberry falls two weeks ago and I saw just as much dry and burnt out areas there as there is at VA Oaks.

I saw several negative reviews, and I have to say that the course is in pretty rough shape. Tee boxes are patchy, fairways are real thin, and sand traps have plenty of gravel. However, its a very nice layout, with a real nice clubhouse, so hopefully the management has the resources bring it up a few notches. If I saw improvements then I would play it again.

Course conditions were not the best - but they alerted us. Quite frankly - with my game it doesn't matter. That said, the staff were great and the price was appropriate for the conditions.
