About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018 and transformed into Disc Golf Course.
Kayak Point Golf Club is one of Washington's most popular courses. It was named one of the "Top 50 Public Courses to Play" by Golf Digest, and the Seattle Times called it a "must play" course. Located in Stanwood, Kayak Point is less than an hour north of Seattle. The layout was carefully carved from an old growth forest of firs and cedars. You'll enjoy scenic views of the Olympic Mountains on several holes. The layout will test you with sloping fairways and large, immaculately manicured greens. There are more than 30 greenside bunkers at Kayak Point, but water comes into play on only two holes. The spacious golf course doesn't have any parallel fairways and it's not short on length at over 6,700 yards from the back tees.

Was once a great course.
Was so looking forward to playing this course again, but was completely disappointed. Now I know you can’t rush Mother Nature in the Pacific North West but this course was completely saturated even after 5 days of sun and was cart path only, a must. Unfortunately there were 2 foursomes in front of us that were painfully slow, 3.5 hr front nine, along with at 30min wait at the turn. Couldn’t take it anymore at 11 and bypassed 2 holes and never saw another group. Greens were good only the fairways were in horrible condition.
Unless things improve not sure I would go back.
Good Track
Bunkers are under repair as well as a couple fairways but overall fairly dry. Greens in decent shape. Worth the drive.
Great staff and excellent layout.
Kayak is may favorite course in Snohomish county. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.
Well worth the money
Very nice course. Driest summer ever, but you can't tell here. The greens are perfect. Smooth, green, and will hold a good approach shot
I played at this course many times before and the course was in pretty decent shape, but today the course was in horrible condition.
1) The tee box area wasn't mowed and I felt like I was playing out of rough.
2) I couldn't putt due to ball being too bouncy. Putting green wasn't mowed and it was just horrible condition.
There wasn't many people playing on the course on Sunday. Now I know why.
Sahara
Played it about 6 weeks ago and it was like playing on concrete...everywhere was dry.
Little green this time but still very very dry due to non existing irrigation.
Good greens, fairways terrible
I have played kayak for 30 years...since I was 8. I understand the lack of rain we have had, but the fairways and rough was hard dirt with long dry grass. It was not fun to play on. I play golf in AZ, Las Vegas...etc and their courses are green year round. This is the prime time of the year for golf in Western Washington and to have the fairways in that condition was pretty disappointing...
The greens were in really good shape. Good work on those! I will go back for sure, I love the layout, but I hope the fairways get better!
Where did the money go? Really and why?
Having been a men's club member from 99 to 06. I quickly remember why I left. This course use to be a terrific challenge. I understand why things went south hence the economy and location of course. But to my understanding the course received 500k in bonds over the last couple of years. The money was to be put back into the course. Which was exciting news. So, I figured I would try it yet again. Plus the price was right.
Unfortunately, the money was used to redo the front desk area, restrooms, and a new patio area for the restaurant. Not sure if any of the money went into the course. Apparently the fairways receive no water. Tee boxes were either not level or are chewed up to the point you were hitting off dirt/sand. Cmon it's late summer and my golf cart had a sign that read 90 degrees PLEASE. My guess was because the grass was so yellow but after the 14th hole I figured it out. It was because of the ground was so hard and most of the fairways seem have bumps and hills everywhere that the carts suspensions were getting abused. Love this course layout but I will never return unless serious changes are made.
What happened?
Kayak used to be in the top 100 public courses in the U.S. And I used to play it 10-12 times a year. I quit playing it 12 years ago because rounds were creeping up to the 6 hour mark on weekends. I was really excited to give it a try again after such a long hiatus and I've got to say it was a real disappointment. The fairways were hard as a rock, the grass was 90% dead and the tees would be better asphalted over. There were signs posted around the pro shop about the drought creating issues but there is a difference between drought and saving money on the water bill. Large parts of this course were not only dead, but hadn't seen water in a long, long time. Ground just doesn't get that hard unless you ignore it. The tees were not only chewed up, but so uneven that it was impossible to find a flat spot to tee up on. We needed up playing the blacks just to find a decent spot to stand and swing. Lastly, the greens were inconsistent as could be. Couldn't get in a groove at all because the pace was different on every hole. The only good thing about the day is the round only took 4.5 hours. Not great but better than the 5.5-6 hours the last time I played. I really hope the owners of this course figure it out. It used to be such an incredible course but now it's just incredibly sad....
Very dry
Shocked to see the fairways as dry as they were. I honestly don't think they are watering them. Only green part of the fairways was the parts the sun never hit. Greens were average at best. Seemed to be pretty slow.
6 hour round
Almost a 6 hour round, marshall did nothing, go somewhere else
The course is very dry, which makes an already difficult course pretty tough. A drive hit to the middle of the fairway can bounce in any direction and be sometimes impossible to find. We rode a cart which was like riding a buckboard on the fairways. Not good if you have a bad back. Goes on my "do not play list".
Could be great
This is a fun course to play, with lots of elevation changes, allowing for huge drives, particularly on the dried out fairways. I understand this course used to be highly rated, but now it is not well maintained. Fairways are dried out (it's been a hot summer), and it's a bone-jarring ride driving your cart on them, with all of the bumps and dips. It was a very quick round, with few people on the course, and in spite of the poor conditioning, I would certainly play here again.
I am sorry you had a bad experience at Kayak Point Golf Course. Please reach out to me via email at Steve.stensland@golfkayak.com . I would love to discuss your day personally and see if we can welcome you back to Kayak. Steve
