Great course, horrible pace of play and customer service
First of all, played the Masters course from the blues. Very nice challenging course, in great condition. The layout is aimed at decent to good golfers.
We had a 9:16 tee time and got out at 10 am due to a frost delay. Unfortunately there were a couple of groups of hackers in front of us. Despite then Marshall passing us every 20 minutes the pace of play was unbearable. At one point he told us there were 3 open holes ahead of these groups, but he did nothing about it. We finally abandoned our round after 10 holes and 4 1/2 hours!
Went to the pro shop and told them and they gave us 9 hole credits. Said that if we had complained before finishing 9 he would have given us 18. Guy was full of attitude. That's fine, gave my credit to my partner. Great course that caters to hackers and is ok with 8+ hour rounds, so I won't be back.
Great course
Really enjoyed the round being my first time at the Masters course was in great condition
Great course for a challenge
This was my first time playing this course. Overall layout is very nice with very challenging holes and deceiving distances. A lot of the holes seem to be level, but will be just slightly uphill, bringing many hazards into play.
Good News: This is a course that you will have no problem increasing your GIRs.
Bad News: The greens are so massive that you'll still need a driver to get close to the hole once you're on them.
I shot poorly during the round and my slice took over, but had I played semi-decent, I would have shot my handicap.
thanks! you will have to try Legends next time, the greens are much smaller!
Challenging but great
First time I have played the Masters Course at Lionhead usually end up on the Legends Course. We played an afternoon tee time at 3:40. If you are looking for a bargain to play this course make sure it is during the week. You can find it for $65-$75 cart included in the afternoon during the week. It is definitely worth the money that you pay.
We played from the blues which is an estimated 6,300 yards. Everything from the tee boxes, fairways, greens and sand traps were well maintained. Unfortunately on this afternoon we had a fairly slow group in front of us but were just in time to finish 18. I would absolutely recommend this course to anyone who consider's themselves a decent golfer. It is a fairly challenging course that includes some fairly long holes, narrow fairways and even an island green. Following our round we went to the restaurant Iggy's attached to the course. I would recommend to anyone playing at Lionhead if you have the chance make sure you try the restaurant. Had the wings to start and a burger as my main course and both were delicious! Make sure if you are ever looking for a round of golf and you see Lionhead for under $80 you book it right away!
Lionhead -masters
If your wanting the experience of a good quality Kaneff courses. Lionhead is a definite choice. Conditions, were exceptional. Would have been nice if someone monitored the pace of play, in particular.....twighlight. We skipped a hole, to get ahead of some slow players, only to be held with another group two holes ahead just as bad.
Thanks, will pass this along to Jerry our pro and his staff.
Pleasantly surprised
Pleasantly surprised at the pace of play at the Masters course at Lionhead,, no real delays especially on a long weekend. Great experience from start to finish ending with lunch at Iggy's. Course conditions were excellent with greens running quick and true. Nice variety of holes with hazards in the right places making you think about most shots. Never ending problem with unrepaired ball marks on greens, no fault of the maintenance staff. My round included 3 birdies so I went home happy!
Very nice course.
Everything was top notch, great course.
Good Challange
A well kept course and facilities. Staff is very courteous and friendly and do everything to get you out on time. The course is challenging but fair, not for the beginner golfer.
Thanks dramas!
Lionhead Masters - Jul 10th
Greens in great shape. Get the Kaneff Card and collect points too.
Great course!
Great course and layout. Saved a ton booking through golf now!
Thanks!
Great value
Lionhead Masters was in great shape the day that we played. It was quite hot so the course was not that busy. Plus we got the Hot Deal which made it quite a good deal. Very happy, will definitely play again.
Thanks James!
Fancy Course, Tough Play
This is a hard course and I wouldn't be able to play it, if I was walking. I played of the white tees and found it challenging. You have to be accurate with your driver and some of the approach shots are even challenging from the fairway. For a better golfer who plays from the Champion Tees, this course plays very long. The course has a very open layout on the Back 9 and the wind can really play a big part especially on the Par 5 - 16th Hole and the Par 3 17th Hole.
Pleasantly Surprised
I was pleasantly surprised with the course. I tend to find myself disappointed more often than now Ruth Kaneff courses, but with this one being their "crown jewel" I can understand that they keep it in fairly decent shape.
Thanks.
Stay away!
We teed off at 1:30 in the afternoon on a beautiful day. We weren't expecting a fast round, as it was the first nice day of the year and the course was full. However, even with that, the pace of play was ridiculous. And there was not a marshal to be seen. When the two groups in front of us paired up and started playing as a 5-some, we'd had enough and packed it in. (That was on 15 on we were already 4.5 hours into the round.) Stopped by the clubhouse to complain. The guy at the desk could not have cared less: "Oh, sorry about that.", and a shrug of the shoulders. And the course looked like it hadn't been maintained since last fall: bunkers a mess, tee boxes completely chopped up, etc, etc. Last time we'll play there.
Not what it used to be
The course still the same but the experience has totally changed.
With All the housing around the course and no tree barrier between the course and houses, Lionhead is no longer what it used to be.
It lost this sense of being this golf enclave that takes you into nature and still close enough.
Lionhead is no longer a Players course. not worth $90 bucks around !
When we checked in I specifically asked if there were Marshalls on the Course ? The answer was yes there are, since Me and my Buddy's have golfed there at least 8 a year since it open and have stuck through thick and thin with Lionhead over the years.. Well now it very obvious they are just trying to make money anyway possible. So We politely waited on the back nine for a five some , 3 carts on the same hole with balloons tied to the cart. After a 3 1/2 front nine we went around the five some to the next only to meet up with 2 guys to finish their spliff, then decide to go find their balls on a par 3 . So we packed it in a went to the club house to see pro. He's gone and the kid behind the counter told there were Marshalls on the course and did nothing for us . So that will be the last time we golf Lionhead.
Good for 1st round for 2016
With warmer temp, (12deg), wind was calm, clear sunny sky, I cannot ask better condition for this season!
It was bit pity there was very slow group in front of us which made 3 groups line-up at same teeground sometimes.
It tooks 4hours and 50 minutes to complete.
It doesn't happen usually at this course... where was the course marshal?
And, green speed was very slow for this course, but this is understandable because of the season.
Overall, I was very happy to play in this time of the year.
December golf
Considering it was December, the conditions were better than I would have imagined. Very much enjoyed my first time playing golf in December.
Great course
As a hot deal this course was really good but otherwise a little too pricey for me. I was a little surprised by the fact that on some holes there were a lot of leaves (in the traps) that had not been blown off and in fact I lost several balls that should have been found, apart from that the course was great!
November Golf!!
Can't belive I was able to get out for such an awesome round November 16th!! Course in grate condition for the time of year...Pro Shop staff were awesome thanks for the generous deals!
Awesome, thanks!
