Monthill
Nice layout, 3 nines. Always doing work to improve this course, it's a good track for any level of golfer.
They're investing money into the clubhouse and course. Could become one of the top courses in south western Ontario shortly!
Will be back
Nice course.
Played this course on a Sat. Morning not rushed or crowded. Next year with a new club house and continued upgrades should make it even better.
Nice layout but hard conditions.
On the MontHill website a practice putting green and driving range is advertised. The course has neither. Despite this mis-information the 27 hole layout has a lot of pluses.
Surprisingly, the fairways were very hard for this time of year and the greens would not hold long approach shots. Thus for most of our approach shots my playing partner and I soon learned to hit one less club and bounce the ball in front of the putting service.
Since many of the greens on the 2 nines we played (Red and Gold) were elevated and well contured pitching and putting were a challenge. A creek snakes through all 3 nines and frequently comes into play therefore a shortage of available water can't be the explanation for the extremely hard conditions. Perhaps, the course superintendent is conserving water for the hotter summer months.
There were no marshals unfortunately because for much of the round we were stuck behind a well beveraged beginner 3some until they played the wrong hole in the middle of the back nine. The beverage cart girl was a frequent visitor to our 2some to the extent that I found her somewhat bothersome.
All in all the price was right and the layout interesting. Softer conditions would have made the round more enjoyable, however.
under construction
the course conditi0on was only fair played it previos years and it was in much better shape
Nice
Nice course played one hloe with a temporary green that was just a circle in the rough but i can see what the hole is gonna look like so very little concern on that part some nice dog legs will be back
Under construction
Good value for the price we paid. Course not bad however major renovations going on. Will be great when completed.
lots of improvements
always a fun and inexpensive course to play... lots of work going on throughout the course so (clubhouse and many alterations to the course) so there were some disruptions but pretty hard to complain about a course that is clearly going all out to make it an even better experience. cant wait to see what its like when all the improvements are done!
Conditions should be better later n the season.
It's too early in the season to fairly review this Course but there's a lot of potential here. All fairways were like playing out of the rough as they had not been cut.
Greens were slow - again not manicured yet. The pace was to slow as pro shop let a fivesome out which held things up. I would come back later in teh season to have a go at this Course again. When all three nines are open, pace should be better as long as conventional groups are on the Course i.e. no fivesomes!
Great course, great value
Enjoyed a fantastic Fall golf game at Monthill, along with the great value, the course was in great shape and offered a good test of your game for all skill levels. Will definitely play again.
great condition but
The pace of play is fine until you hit a group of 5 or 6 or 7 all together. It seems like the owner and his friends play what they want and how many they want. So before you book ask if the are groups of 5 or more going before you. Other then that it was a great da and the price was right.
On the way to greatness
I make sure I get out every year, it is always a pleasure to play. If current course enhancements are an indicator of things to come, it is going to be spectacular. KO
Go For It
A very good course with a variety of holes to challenge every golfer.
Fun course
Great course to play with a wide variety of holes.
Great mix of long fairways and short fairways.
Strongly suggest getting a cart as it is a hilly course.
Will defiantly be back to play again and will 100% recommend to others.
Love this course but not on Father's day.
this course is in good shape, it is great for beginners to novice players. I think we just picked a bad time to go as it seemed like everyone out there had never played the game before. The signs all say proper golf attire required but that certainly wasn't in effect. it took us 45 minutes to play 2 holes, but again it was father's day with many people out who have clearly never played before. We just switched to the Blue nine from the Red and we were at our own pace again. Staff is nice here, the Manager is a great guy. course is in great shape, the greens are challenging. I will go back again for sure.
Will be good???
I have not played this course for some time, maybe 15 years now. The layout has changed quite a bit and I'm not sure, for the better. Some holes were very tight and others just strange...140 yrds. out and 140 yards. in. The one course was closed and they were working on it all day. Nice to see some money going into the track. The greens were fast, but, a bit pitchy! The tee blocks were very fuzzy and not too flat! fairways were a little long, but, not too bad! The restaurant was closed, but, there was a grill going(bear paw sodium burgers!). In the end, it was a fine day for $20 and I hope for better things in the near future. Best of luck!
great golf course
Course was in great shape. all greens were in excellent condition. The course is challenging and very picturesque I will go back and play this course again.
MontHill
The staff was exceptional especially, the cart girl Jordyn, she was extremely efficient and very courteous. My wife and I will definitely be back!
OK course for the money
found the grass on the fairways too long--lost balls on the fairway. greens were sloped too much
