Good Course
The course was very well maintained. The fairways were green and well kept and so were the greens. The greens were fast and some had some challenging reads. The trees and water provided a nice backdrop and some challenging spots. I will definitely come back.
Surprising golf experience
I golfed 2 rounds from 9:42am - 2pm (with 45 min. beer break at the club house) with 2 friends. It was a hot and humid day (~32 C) but the breeze and large trees and numerous benches helped cope.
We are average golfers and found this course sufficiently challenging with the sloping greens and pin placement. There were all types of golfers on this course from beginner to professional - but primarily novice to intermediate. You only need your driver for 2-3 holes being a short par 4 course. I only used my 3 wood off the box and did fine.
There are the odd tighter fairways and a few dog legs to keep it interesting.
For being in the middle of a residential area it didn't feel like it - the mature tree and protected rolling hill landscape and natural swamp-like ponds it made it feel a bit more secluded.
The grounds, greens and bunkers were clean and well kept. From the first 9 to our second the sprinklers softened up the land a bit.
Overall a great experience for the $15 plus an additional $10 for the second round.
I will be going again and recommend this course to anyone for a quick challenging and affordable game.
Sweet little course
First time I played. Will play again for sure. Great greens. Had an awesome time.
Great Course
The landscape and amount of water made for serveral challenging shots but overall was a beautiful course. Great 9 hole course to walk.
Great course for a quick game
The course was in excellent shape! Greens were fast and interesting. Very narrow landing area between water on the first hole. Great to know they are open all year, weather permitting. Super friendly reception
I should have checked it out sooner..
The Essex was a pleasant surprise, much longer than I expected (2700 yards). You get a good walking work out there are lots of hills. The other 9 on the course is much shorter we did not play that(1100 yards). Reasonable shape good for the $. Would go again.
Small and easy
Good price for 9holes for $10 but not a course I would play regularly... Very short even from back tees, great for beginners.
nice short course great for new golfers
great location in cambrige just off 401 . the front desk lady was impatient and ignorant towards me and my golf now reservation and reacted the same way to the two guys I was paired with when she found they booked threw golf now. mabee she should be trained as an end user of this great website.
This course is not one for a driver
The course was in good shape. Greens are well groomed, Most of the fairway were in good condition.
A couple of holes had way to much water on then it was pooling in some spots.
Staff on the course were nice but the Front desk was not too nice.
Poor attitude, rude staff
From the moment we walked in we were greeted with attitude
The lady at the front desk told us we cold not golf unless we had a printed copy of the verification with us. I showed her the confirmation number and explained that I had never needed to bring the printed copy with me. She proceeded to pull out a file folder and then dropped it on her desk. She said "see, look at all these people that printed off their copies. That's how we get paid!".
Once we're we finally permitted to tee off we tried to put it behind us and have a good day, however the next staff we came across was just as ignorant as the first. As we were heading back to the club house we had to drive through a cart path that took us through some bushes. About half way through we ran into the man it ancestors guy who had blocked the patch with cart. After an awkward 10 second stare he said "go another way"
I could go on in more detail but that pretty much sums up my experience. If every golf course was like this one I'd take up bowling....
good course for the price
Good course for the price. Was a little difficult to find the second and third holes on Essex because the rain had flooded sections of the course and there was insufficient signage. Course is well maintained and a decent challenge.
This golf course is now permanently closed and will become a housing developement
