Fantastic Course!
Wonderfully laid out and maintained course. Very makeable pars for the average to above average golfer. Looking forward to returning soon!g
SEPT Copetown
Perfect early morning round. Course in excellent shape and layout makes it a thinker course for each hole's strategy...Good job Copetown team!
Nice course
Starter paired us up with a couple so able to get out early The couple had a lot of balls in the fescue so slowed us down. Round ground to a halt at 10th hole due to one very slow group and a lot of ball searchers ahead of us. Finally with a couple holes to play rangers got it sorted.
Just wow
Course is nothing short of amazing. We played the golds and the conditions were amazing. Greens are fast and true. Fairways are just amazing...
If you want to experience a semi-pro course for around $40-ish a round... course like this should be charging $100/round easily
Great Value!
Really enjoyed this course! Challenging, but easy to walk!! Club house is great and the staff was very friendly!! We are playing it again next week !
Hidden Gem
It was our first time golfing at Copetown Woods and won't be our last, great hidden gem, loved the course.
Beautiful course with great greens
Just got back from playing CW for the first time and was very impressed.
Great fall rate of $45 incl tax walking.
Very friendly starter, who gives a bit of course advice and also hands out a little sheet telling you the pin positions for the day, love this touch.
Greens are one of the best I've played all year, never mind this fall. They haven't been aerated at all yet, which is a rare find at this time of the year, but they have put some fertilizer on, but this didn't make any difference at all. Greens are massive, so make sure you get on the correct level, otherwise you'll find a two-putt hard to come by. Putts were very true.
Layout is great and can be challenging, esp for a first timer, but this just adds to the experience in my opinion. Fescue was cut back but my playing partner told me it's thick in the summer.
The sand in the bunkers is nice and fluffy, which to me always says a lot about the calibre of a course.
Unfortunately we didn't get to sample any food inside, but might be playing again in a few days and will try then.
Overall, can't find ONE issue with the course and will definitely be back and will also be recommending to others.
Great course for great value
I’ve been lucky enough to play this course 6 times this year. I’ve never had a round longer than 4 hours in a foursome. The course is always in spectacular shape. The greens always roll true and fast, even if they are wet. The staff is always working diligently on the course keeping it pristine. This is my new favourite course in the Hamilton area and can’t wait to get back on it next spring!
Best bang for the Buck
Friendly clubhouse staff and starter. Course very fair but enough of a challenge to make it interesting. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens all in very good shape. Pace of play excellent. Keep it up Copetown Woods!
Great course...GREAT VALUE
Playing a full 18 holes at Copetown Woods was great experience! I decided to give this course a try after visiting the clubhouse for a business meeting a few years ago. Additionally, I was scheduled to play in charity golf tournament at an adjacent course the same day. So I booked the first tee off time (7:04 am) of the day. Although the Hamilton area had experienced a lot of rain overnight, the course itself was in good shape. Sure the grass on some fairways were a bit damp and the greens were a bit slower/ harder to read due the wetness. Overall this course is definitely an emerald gem with its wasteland bunkers. One thing I found interesting is that Holes 2 and 18 share the same green. Albeit that each pin is located on opposite slopes. Definitely a unique trait. For those who play golf for the challenge, scenery, and who appreciate the art of course design? This is a 100% your type of course to play!
Unfortunate timing?
I had played the course 3 weeks earlier and it was in pretty decent shape then and we had lots of rain so I really don't understand why it was in such rough shape. I booked a group of 8, which a few were not regular golfers and for the price ($90) the course was awful. The fairways were chewed up with no divots fixed and green were equally awful and lumpy. It was also a rainy day and yet the staff I felt were quite pushy and not welcoming in the pro shop. The cart girls and restaurant staff were friendly and helpful as usual and actually cared to ask about our large group and what it was for. Also $90+ is quite steep for this course as I feel we ate just paying extra for gps carts, which is nice but not an extra $40 nice.
I'm not sure if they have just given up on the season or my lack of greens keeping is to blame but its was an unfortunate outing that I was unhappy about, especially for what the occasion meant for me. Truly disappointed.
Nice course - wish it was closer to home
Copetown Woods, a relatively recent addition, is a carefully thought-out facility and run quite well.
The club house, practice range and green, and first tee area are well placed to keep things flowing well for golfers. The pro-shop will have you in and out to the tee or practice quickly.
The course is a mixture of heathland and sandhills styles - so the areas well off the fairway are either long grass (fescue style) or waste bunkers. The fescue will eat balls - if you find your ball in there, just pitch out. The waste bunkers are great for preventing people from having to look for balls in fescue all the time. When I last played, they had obviously been watering heavily despite the driest summer on record. All the ponds were 1-2m below their spring high water marks - I'm not sure how much longer that can be maintained. Even still, the course was not excessively spongy.
Greens were in excellent condition - running fast and true. Green-side bunkers had the right amount of sand, even if I didn't hit the right amount of sand all the time. Fairways, tees, and rough (excluding fescue) were mostly green, though showing signs of the dry heat - nothing to complain about. The fescue is mean and nasty - they don't feed it enough because it ate a few too many Titleists.
In general, the course is pretty straight forward. The slope rating, even from the blues, tells you that you should have an easy round. That will only happen if you keep it in the short stuff and the wind isn't being mean to you. A few holes are near giveaways in that they're pretty easy - 1, 8, 12, 13, 15 while others will make you wish you had played smarter - 2, 5, 6, 10, 18.
The only complaint I have occurred on my most recent visit - we teed off around 9 on a Saturday and found out a few holes in that there was a small tournament ahead of us - only a few groups. This slowed play a bit and resulted in a round just over 4.5. I wish there were some notice about tournaments going out on the course - especially on a weekend morning when you don't expect them. All my other rounds there have been around 4 hours, many times less than that.
Great golf course, Lousy Meal
Ourselves and 2 friends paid for 9 and dine on June 10, 2016. The golfing was wonderful but the meal was a complete disappointment. Service was probably the worst we have ever had. We sat down at 7:10 and promptly got served a drink but then that was it until at 8:15 when I stopped a server and said we had no food. Salads were brought soon after that although they we also very disappointing... very small and really only kale with a smattering of tomato on top. Another huge wait while the people who sat down right beside us were served drinks, salad and food very quickly. Finally at 8:45 our main course came. The perch was very overcooked, almost leather on one side. Coffee was served after 2 requests at 9:10 . Will definitely not go back for a meal again. Last summer was significantly better service and food.
Top Knotch Course
Loved everything about this course. Played it three weeks in a row. Greens are super fast even at the end of October, which i prefer faster greens then slow. Usually bunkers are hard and muddy at this time of year, but they played like the middle of summer bunkers. No leaves, so i guess they blow them off the course. 2 thumbs up to the course maintenance crew. Only down side was the guy in the pro shop could be a little more cheered up and have a sense of humor, sort of miserable.
Always solid
Always like to play this local Hamilton area course. Usually in good conditions and have decent special rates. Grounds keeps could pay a little more attention and ask players to do the same on the greens! Sometimes guilty of overbooking and lack of support in the pro-shop, with an indifferent pro-shop manager. But the course is good enough to overlook up those deficiencies. Food service is slow but good usually.
