Wide fairways
My wife and I played East and West courses. Neither of us lost a ball. The rough has been cut short enough to muscle the ball with an iron. Greens were consistent and the whole course was in great November shape. Also quite walkable. A great day.
Decent course marred by poor management
Unfortunately, as with most GolfNorth courses, Fergus has slid into disrepair through lack of maintenance. From tee blocks that are so poorly misshapen and riddled with divots you quite literally cannot find a level patch of grass to stand on, to sand traps either abandoned and left to grass over or so full of silt and mud there is no longer sand to play off, to pro shop facilities that have needed updating for more than a decade and are still left to age poorly, to cart "paths" so badly rutted and graded you have to slow to a crawl to ride over sections, the entire course is decaying into oblivion.
What makes Fergus even less pleasant is the incompetence and lack of organization of marshalls and course staff. Routinely there are groups being sent off 15-20 minutes early "because they've arrived and are ready to go", which causes needless backups when other groups are then sent off on their correctly schedule tee times. Marshalls and staff take no interest in managing "the turn" to ensure golfers follow the proper rotation between the three 9-hole courses. Today we were "asked" by the marshall to let a group of golfers start their back nine in front of us (while we were waiting on the 10th tee block for the group in front of us to advance). We were following our rotation, the other golfers just decided they wanted to play a different back nine.
Nine-hole players are also simply "inserted into the schedule" ahead of or behind eighteen-hole players, throwing scheduling and the flow of play into further chaos.
Marshalls do not bother to circulate through the course to identify slow play, and the course is so understaffed they can't even get broken golf carts repaired and back on course so people who booked a cart can actually use one.
Sad to have watched the decline of a once-nice course over the years. Frankly I've had my fill of their mis-management.
November to remember
No one expects to get a bonus round in November so great weather course decent dont expect the nicest course with facilities and power carts are limited and need to be updated but we walked it and enjoyed.
SLOW DAY
for the last warm day of the year what a waste very poorly managed course was so backed up 27 holes but what ones to play seemed like it was very jammed up walked off after 16 holes, didn't feel like a 5hr play time. played my front 9 with a group doing their back 9 then it was a free for all know one directing traffic played solo back 9 played through 2 groups and still walked off.
P.S when you can barely hit it 200 on your best shot back tees are not for you and you do not need to wait for the group in front to clear the green
Fergus Golf Club
Flat short course. Great for beginners with wide open fairways and descent size greens.
Again golf North gauging on power cart
Price was good , upset to find the the power cart actually cost me 1&half times the price of golf. This and the carts did not even have a wind screen, Golf North it seems have done this with quite a few of their courses. You think you are getting a good deal only too
Find out they get you with the power cart if you elect to
Go
That route
Decent course
Pace was sooo slow but you can get that anywhere. South course is better than east/west ones.
Too crowded
The Marshall was kinda rude
The course was packed and there are 3 9 s we had to wait forever on the south 9
Real slow
The course itself was nice I would recommend if it was not so crowded
Overbooked
Course over booked - didn't allow cart booking online which our group always takes due to bad knees. Two people have cart bags and no pull carts available so debating to leave but staff said couldn't refund since online booking. Just before our tee off time we were able to get one cart that was returned -put the two cart bags on back with two bags in passenger seat until back 9 where we able to get a second cart
