Not that good
The course has always had a weird set of holes. You have to cross a busy highway for some. Four of the holes have rubber mats to tee off on. Also, there seemed to be no distinct fairways on any hole. It was rough all over and very little grass. Very disappointing. Lucky I got a deal on golfnow. I would never pay the regular $55.00 round.
Great
Splendid afternoon with my two fun great nephews. What’s not to like. wish you had tunnels under the road. It’s difficult to get across the road. Have to wait for quite a number of vehicles.
Golf and beach day
We went to Oakwood for the day with our wives. After a quick lunch at the resort the guys headed for the course and our wives took a short walk down to the beach on Lake Huron.. The pro shop let us go off an hour early before our booked tee time. The first nine holes played fast but we caught up to a twosome on the back nine. We had met this twosome in the pro shop before we went for lunch so they had a 45 -50 minute headed start on us and we still caught them by the ninth hole.To be fair I think there was a slower group in front of them.
We have played Oakwood for years and have found that are often very casual golfers on vacation playing the course, especially on summer weekends. Even though the back nine played slow, we still finished the round in about 4 hours.
All in all Oakwood is a relaxing course with a few long par 5 holes and a lot of par 3 holes of which a couple are blind shots to the green.
We'll be back again.
Decent course
3 holes you have to hit off astro turf - or off the fixed tee’s which were too low
Need a Marshall to endure pace of play is kept - we had 4 griups on 1 tee
Decent course
Mo distinct fairways
Need a marshall to ensure pace of play is kept. Groups of 4s were wasting a lot of time and at one point we had 3 different groups waiting at 1 tee box
Fun for the family
I was able to bring my 2 kids out and play without being rushed.
I would love to see this coarse build a tunnel to access the other side. Its very dangerous trying to cross a major road with high speed traffic and you are on an golf cart
Great Sunday
Always enjoy playing this course. Most fairways are wide which accommodates my slice. Great day.
GREAT COURSE
Great golf course. Some very long par 5 holes. Pace of play was great on this VERY HOT day.
Grand time in Grand Bend
Course well groomed. Beautiful scenery. Awesome staff.
Mats for tee decks don’t belong
This course has four holes that require golfers to play off of Astro Mats. The greens are very receptive to approach shots but putting is tremendously slow. My guess would be about 6-7 on the Stimp Meter.
My review
Nice course with more than a few long par 5’s and a ridiculous par 3 (have no idea where the green is) and some hazards you don’t even know are there.
Apart from that, pretty wide open and a couple of very picturesque holes. Might be a bit dodgy in tourist season as have to cross a highway 4 times but all in all, pretty nice course.
1st and 10th tee offs are from mats in front of the pub patio so that may put some people off :):):)
Holiday golf
We stayed st the resort but booked through GolfNow. $100 vs $40. Course could use a trimming on the fairways and greens. Fairly straight course with wide landing areas. Wouldn’t go out of my way to play again.
Hot day for golf
It was super hot today and there was hardly anyone on the course. The biggest problem was the heavy traffic getting to Grand Bend because it was the Sunday of a long weekend. We did see a beer cart on the course in the distance a couple of times but it never approached our group.
Played in just under 4 hours and we had a great day. Our wives came along and spent the day at the beach. We were going to eat dinner at the course but the pub at Oakwood was packed due to the long weekend so we drove half an hour down the road to Exeter and found restaurants with lots of vacant tables.
Great deal on golf now for this cours
It needs water and is very dry ,but a great deal on golf now and the pub was great for, services and food!
