Opening Day 2023
I had booked a last minute round to take advantage of the weather. As I was driving in realized I booked the “Martin” course instead of the “Beddoe”
I hadnt played the
martin before and the Beddoe wasnt open yet so I was open to a new course.
Weather was perfect. Paired up with some good guys,. Fairways were green for so
early in the season, as you can tell the winter treated the course well for good spring conditions.
Greens hadnt been cut, were aerated and pretty much un-puttable with any integrity.
Bunkers hadnt been touched and were not playable. No ammenities (bathrooms or snack
shack were open). Thank god pro
shop at least had some gatorade available.
Course was a little more challenging then I had expected, and much hillier. (as much or more than Beddoe which I didnt expect).
Layout was pleasantly more challenging than expected .
It was a little repetitive on hole
design, and not a course I would
return to, but in fairness it is early in the year to expect great conditions, but I would have expected the greens to be cut. (or remain closed until they can be)
Pleasantly surprised.
Shorter course, but well designed so you have to think. Proximity to downtown Hamilton and value are the true perks of this course.
Save our money
Cons
- No balls in the pro shop
- course overlaps with a public walking trail.. the parking lot is shared with the public, there was a family running around on the fifth hole with their dog while we were playing on the fourth hole, the path also intersects the 16th hole so there is people walking and biking in your shot line so you have to wait until they walk by, a lady picked up and threw one of my friends ball that he hit while walking on that path
- the course is covered in leaves like COVERED, zero maintenance, have fun looking for your ball
- others playing the course had no brain and kept walking on our course
Great civic course
Scenic and pretty well kept. Location is good. Staff are friendly. Snack bar is fine. Price is quite reasonable.
Side of a mountain
Good value for the money. Course layout and green speed is very frustrating. Tree lined fairways and tee placements produce many unplayable second shots. I understand that the layout is on the side of a mountain but many putts makes the Masters greens look slow. Great for the money but can be very frustrating to play.
Great city course
I grew up with Chedoke in my backyard so to say and lover the design of both courses. 20 bucks on Golf Now and getting my 10k steps walking is a sweet deal.
Can't beat the price and old school layout...
Enjoyable round - late fall
Was surprised how good the conditions were for late October. Most greens were in good shape with the exception of 12 with all the geese turds. Other than that pretty good stuff. Excellent value for the money at a civic course. Would definitely play again if the weather co-operates…
Autumn bliss
Had a fun game on a beautiful albeit cool fall day I found the greens extremely challenging which made it an interesting round of golf. We walked the course which is yet another challenge due to numerous elevation changes.
Good course
Nothing special but we'll worth the price I play here frequently
