Not a Dune in Sight!
According to Webster's, a "dune" is a hill or ridge of sand piled up by the wind...not very complimentary when thinking about a golf course and nowhere near the descriptor I would use to review this gem of a course.
Northern Dune will surprise even the most seasoned golfer. The front nine uses a mixture of tight fairways to test your accuracy off the tee but you will be rewarded (or recover if needed) by spacious greens that are very well maintained and can run fast...beware! The back nine features wider landing spots for the big boomers out there. However, given the location of the course, keep your big booming drives below the tree tops or suffer the fate of the prevailing winds that will surely carry into fescue which may require a homing device if you want to find that ball!
All in all, a very pleasant track for the experienced, weekly or even beginning golfer.
Great course
Love the cart rides thru the trees… course is not easy and give just the right amount of challenge
Nice
Right now the course is as good as it gets. Only gripe is that the bunkers should have some slope away from the vertical lips.
Falling apart
Tee boxes are awful. Fairways rough shape. Some greens are terrible, others pretty good but slow.
“Championship Design?”
Starting with the good news… it was a great day, great value, very good pace of play, and the course was in better shape than I have seen it most years. But the greens were quite slow, with some in embarrassingly bad shape (eg no. 4) and some of the fairways would be rough in a championship course. But I’m glad that Northern Dunes is in business, and I hope they continue to improve.
A good Round
Course generally in good shape several tees need work as do 1 or 2 greens but other than that everything was green.
Front nine is tighter than the back but the whole course is an enjoyable loop. We played again the very next day.
